Re: RS broadcast this Saturday night

My mom has a bunch of tickets and wanted me to come down with my daughters. I let her know immediately not to plan on us. This week she resorted to bribing the girls to come down to have sleepovers with popcorn and shopping.

No. Just no.

Not yet...but appear to be headed that direction.
Update. We are explicitly planning how a split would look and function.
Sorry to read this update - that is a difficult conversation to have :(

It's a different kind of difficult that I don't know how to handle. The Remnant way of thinking has taken care of his biggest shelf items.

Re: End of Summer Confession Time

First garment free summer has been nice and cool in tank tops - especially with first summer of Sunday hikes. Although I've enjoyed iced coffee the last six years, this is the first summer I haven't had to hide it - sitting in the car to drink them, finding a garbage on the way home, popping mints, ...

Re: The Remnant

The Conservative Apostates are heading for The Remnant and the Progressive Apostates are heading to Starbucks. The main thing that both of these groups have in common is years of LDS leadership and a current temple recommend. I don't know which has been harder: Spouse being TBM or him moving more t...

Re: Who saw the eclipse in totality?

We headed North and got to see totality - absolutely amazing and definitely worth it! We left as soon as it was over and didn't have any problem getting back home. Words and pictures haven't been able to describe the fabulous experience.

Re: Secular Homeschool

Just seeing this. We've always homeschooled. This year I'll have 7th grade through preschool kids, we don't do anything formal until they are about 7 yrs old. They always have a choice of public or homeschool. We follow a self-teaching method focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic only for the ...

Re: Last minute visit

That is nice to feel authentic without it being 'in their face' about it. My parents finally visited and I let them know ahead of time there would be a coffee maker in the house and all was good with them. DH - not so much. He was very worried they would think he drank it, too, and made sure I let t...

That's what scares me, kids go through an array of trends/preferences/desires at this age. It's hard to know what will stick.
I can agree with this. I feel for Savannah now and for what the future holds.

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

Here's a question: if she had stood up and said how much she likes boys, and was looking forward to getting married in the temple to a boy, would there be any question as to "if she's old enough" to be saying she likes boys? And right here is the exact thought I had once I started seeing those comm...

I can't even try to ease the tension...

I used the phrase 'bean water' to make light the coffee discussion... somehow that translated into I'm now using 'anti-mormon language.'

Harry Potter and the Sacred Text

Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People

And another vote for Sam Harris, Hardcore History and Skeptic's Guide.

I only recently started listening to podcasts outside of Mormonism as I, too, saw they were making me depressed.

Re: Are you trying to send me to hell?

A few years ago while eating breakfast at a diner, a man next to us was drinking coffee. My young son explained that that was a very bad man for drinking coffee. This was one of the last things I put on my shelf before it collapsed. This is one reason I've always (even when TBM) been glad to have m...

Re: What am I supposed to say when they are manipulating my children right in front of me?

Thank you so much for the responses! I think below is exactly what I'm going to have ready to say when my children are with me: If you wish to invite them somewhere you need to discussed it with me, not them All invitations for our children need to come through the parents first. It's a family polic...

What am I supposed to say when they are manipulating my children right in front of me?

Background: my kids haven't been active for almost a year. They still remember past church experiences, but they don't ask about it since our Sundays are now family fun days. I need to be able to stand up for my kids (and myself) when old ward members try to guilt us into being active in church. Mos...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. when he handed me the obligatory correct-use-of-garments card to read I skimmed it and said, "I gotta tell you, I think this is kind of creepy. Don't you think it's a little bit cultish that I have to satisfy two other middle-aged men that I'm wearing my underwear appropri...

Anyone else catch Bill Reel's podcast last night before it disappeared?

It was exactly what I needed to share with spouse. Exactly what would open up a great conversation. I couldn't wait to share it with him this morning - and then it was gone :( edited to add: Bill quoted what somebody on FB wished he or Gina would repost - he commented 'consider it done' and read wha...

Re: Dr. Kristy Money Courses

I have those workbooks and would like to try the exercises. Two problems though. I don't know how to approach the idea without my dh thinking I am trying to trap him. And, I'm not sure I'm ready for that level of vulnerability. Has anyone worked through issues like these? This is exactly where I am...
