Re: Sam Young’s Crusade continues
I agree with his reasoning here: I started speaking out when I realized that Davis was a registered sex offender from Utah and, despite this, he was put in a position of authority in our local congregation. This fact raised two concerns: The LDS Church teaches that church leaders have the "gift of ...

Sam Young’s Crusade continues
I saw this article on Reddit and thought I would place it here. It is about a man’s journey to protect children when the church is trying to protect the predator…you’ve heard the story…same story different day. https://www.postbulletin.com/news/local/rochester-church-of-latter-day-saints-member-spea...

Re: Relaxed mission attire
Seems the white shirts and ties have become a negative brand image. This means people in Europe will no longer have the visual cue to cross to the other side of the street when they spot missionaries up ahead. I think the European people and all people of the world will quickly adapt to identity ot...

Declining church-goers and creative changes
Here is a good read about how some churches are responding to the declining number of church-goers.
Do you envision any similar/ creative ideas like these from the LDS church?

US Religion Census and the LDS church
The SL Tribune posted an article about survey results on churches in America. The method for data collection was simply to ask each church how many members attended. Some results from the LDS church reflect the church’s ongoing commitment to inaccuracy. A few key figures to mention. “For the LDS Chu...

Re: Church supports marriage equality
Sounds like the brethren have ungirded their loins just enough to find some space for LGBTQ fairness…
I wonder if there is space in there for giving women the priesthood….I’m pretty sure Oaks has all sorts of space under his loin cloth to make room for some healthy changes.

Re: Church supports marriage equality
To me it really feels like TSCC is talking out both sides of it's mouth...again! They want the mainstream popularity and acceptance in the media while still holding on to their bigotry practices. I'm guessing their surveys to members have also helped put the pressure on doing this. How can they sup...

Re: Russel Nelson and the 2nd Great Apostacy
I was watching the Bednar press conference that wtfluff linked in another thread. Bednar said President Nelson was very brave in making the commitment that "we will no longer use a pejorative nickname that was attached to us by our enemies." The wicked apostates Hinkley and Monson must certainly ra...

Re: Original Doctrines
... I hadn't heard that, but it sounds right on track. I once got a special behind-the-scenes tour of the SL temple by a sealer who took me to a spot above the Holy of Holies (if I remember correctly) and told that was where Talmage wrote Jesus the Christ. He spoke about it with such awe and revere...

Re: Another Temple Facepalm
Is it just me, or does it seem like a number of these temples are being announced in areas where the church is shrinking. Is temple building being used to replace missionary work or retention of members?

Re: Best evidence that Joseph Smith was just making it all up
A number of years ago, I spent an evening driving around in New York City. It happened to be the day of a Jewish holiday. Orthodox Jewish fathers and sons were walking everywhere. To this day, Jewish tradition is still preserved and embedded in culture. The people of the BoM were Jewish. They suppos...

Does the LDS church bring you closer to God?
Over the years, my faith has continued to transition. I’m reminded of something Richard Bushman said that basically the purpose of Joseph Smith was to bring you closer to Christ. Does Joseph or the church do that for you? The more I learn about church history, the further away from Christ I feel. Fo...

I find this accurately covers most conferences. I was pleased that my entire family did not watch or listen to one second of conference….and I feel fantastic.

Re: What’s wrong with the cross?
I’ve always heard that David O McKay had a disdain for the cross and cause it to go out of fashion. Do you think the cross will make a return to Mormonism like bell-bottom pants? Rusty is already getting rid of the Angel Mormoni. He wants Mormonism to be more mainstream. Perhaps a resurrection of th...

Re: The Q-15 has a safety net. How would it work in a crisis?
I think there is a contingency plan to build an impenetrable Fortress/Temple on the island of Tonga for the Brethren and their families to abide during times of upheaval, such as the bulk of the saintly membership embracing Trump as the new QAnon Messiah (please keep this a secret). Probably in Mid...

I think the church was against sperm donors in the past because you couldn’t be entirely sure what race the baby would be…technology now is better at tracking the donor and their DNA.

Re: Demythologizing Mormonism
Turns out a lot of the faith promoting stories we have grown up on a pure $hit. Not surprising, but the church is trying to cover them up and then down the road will claim they never taught that paying tithing will open the windows of heaven.

I chose not to read or listen to this talk. I can’t stand Oaks. I am trying to get him out of my mind completely.
