Re: Club-Q shooter was not an ACTIVE Mormon

By the way, in the early 90s I myself was a very inactive college student but still had very homophobic opinions based on my church upbringing. Mormon beliefs don’t just wash off you the minute you walk out of a church building

Re: Club-Q shooter was not an ACTIVE Mormon

Failing the inactive argument, they could always claim he was acting as “a man and not a member”. It must be nice to be able to nuance all your evils away by playing with words so that TSCC can still be the one perfect institution on earth.

Re: Church Finances and the CBC

Live in Canada and this was an early shelf item. Believe I discovered in 2013 the same Canada revenue website which showed LDS donations going to BYU. Seemed very shady at best and certainly not what the one true church would do. Seeing Bednar at the press club in DC with his arrogance in full displ...

Re: God loves the apostate?

100% agree with this. I’ve noticed that ex-Mormons and PIMO’s are by far the most devout and well-read scriptorians and church historians. It’s the TBM’s who seem to be the lazy learners and lack the drive and curiosity to examine their own religion and beliefs.

The most well read Mormons are….

Ex-mormons. I think it’s more pronounced in Mormonism than any other religion and it speaks to the nature of the con men that created it. You don’t see many ex-Catholics that know the catechism or whatever better than an archbishop, you don’t see ex-Jews that know the history of the Torah better tha...

I love how the angel just didn't have quite enough enthusiasm to actually appear to the person who needed to be persuaded, but only to the guy who benefitted from it.

Re: Joseph Smith and the curse of the flaming sword

Why does an angel need a sword to destroy someone anyway?? Lol I guess having a sword and omnipotent priesthood power is better than just omnipotent priesthood power.

Joseph Smith and the curse of the flaming sword

Just thinking back to my TBM days when I’d go on splits with the missionaries and an investigator brought up Joseph Smith and polygamy. The missionaries enthusiastically chimed in that Joseph didn’t want to do it but an angel with a flaming sword threatened to kill him if he didn’t. It speaks to the...

Re: Technological advances BEFORE 1820?

Lol you can’t beat Mormon apologists that way. I remember being one. The orthodox story is that every advancement pre-1820 was to set the stage for the Grand First (Second,Third,Edited for a new audience…….etc) Vision. God had his hand on everyone from Christopher Columbus through George Washington ...

Re: Mormonism's Galileo Moment

One reason I think TSCC can’t use a Roman Catholic approach like with Galileo is that evidence of Joseph Smith’s fraud tears at the foundation of the church itself. The church has literally lost all its self-appointed priesthood authority once we accept Smith wasn’t 100% honest in his prophetic clai...

Re: Mormonism's Galileo Moment

I recently heard someone (on Mormon Stories?) refer to the Lamanite DNA problem as "Mormonism's Galileo Movement," and decided to use that as the title for a paper I just wrote for a Philosophy of Religion class. Graey's post about European plagues and Native Americans made me think someone here mi...

Re: Dodgy Australian tax dealings by the Church

Spent some time as a financial clerk and that was when I first learned that all tithing money collected in Canada went directly to Salt Lake. At least that’s what I was told. Seemed reasonable to me since that was where HQ was. Shortly before leaving the church I discovered through the magic of the ...

Re: Current policy, maybe doctrine, about women being sealed to more than one man

The whole vicarious work for the dead seems so funny now. As a TBM I used to be so proud of us for not leaving “one soul behind” !!! Once I left the church and tried explaining it to my nevermo wife (who I met a while after leaving the church) I quickly realized from her reaction that what makes so ...

Re: Religion/politics

As a TBM I used to be extremely conservative and right wing and felt it was my duty as a church member to be so. I used to scold extended family members who were TBM but liberal politically. To this day I still think that a liberal TBM is an oxymoron and hence a little hypocritical. I was influenced...

If I "choose to believe" that gravity is not real, will I survive jumping off of a 1000 foot cliff? I say it's worth a try! My dad always told me "I'd rather have you come home flattened in a pizza box than non-pulverized and believing in so-called gravity." I see what you did there Hagoth ;) I won...

Re: Meldrum on Mormon Stories

I'm about half way through the second Meldrum episode, and I'm really struggling to keep listening to it. Meldrum continually turns to logical fallacies, contradicts himself, and makes false claims in an effort to support his own view (the USA was the first country on Earth to fight against slavery...

Astrological Birth Chart vs. Patriarchal Blessing

I wonder if any of you have tried or are willing to try for sake of comparison doing a full astrological birth chart reading (not just your simple sign). I’ve been finding the study of my own and my wife’s to be extremely accurate and enlightening as far as life’s mission, hidden talents, abilities,...

Re: Can Confirm - Emphasis on Conditional Love

I think the emphasis on conditional love and the emphasis on exact obedience is a response from leaders addressing some of their own internal cognitive dissonance. Maybe their train of thought is that it wouldn't be fair if someone that didn't put in all the work that they put in got the same rewar...

Going all the way to Mormon hell now….

So my TBM sisters already thought I was on the fast lane of the highway to Spirit Prison…First I left TSCC, had my name removed, got into drinking the devil’s beverages and got multiple ear piercings—which is taboo for females let alone males :o. Now I’ve got my first tattoo with a giant pagan symbo...
