Re: Mormon Transhumanist Association

Hagoth - Have tried psilocybin but was disappointed that no religious experience came. Was about as useful as prayer and fasting ;-). Felt good though

Re: Nauvoo Expositor

Good question nibbler. Sorry haven’t figured out how to copy comments yet. I think it was both. Emma pushed the polygamy denial because she was embarrassed of her own role/knowledge. I think Joseph Smith III just bought into the lie being so young at the time when it went down.

Re: Nauvoo Expositor

Just thinking about it, quite frankly I’m amazed that Brigham Young had the gonads to come out and declare polygamy openly in the 1850s in Utah. Personally I would have kept that practice on the down low if I were him. JS maintained to his dying breath that he was being falsely accused of polygamy. ...

Re: Mormon Transhumanist Association

I get your point and it’s well taken. My personal preference is to have no association with the word “Mormon” due to the damage it caused to me personally and my family. Again this is just my personal opinion and whatever works for you works for you—but I think there are no universal truths containe...

Re: Mormon Transhumanist Association

Looks very ambiguous in its beliefs…sorry to nit pick. Serious question though is how does a group strongly linking itself and exaltation to science and technology reconcile this with its belief in scriptures brought forth by a prophet that contradict everything we know from a scientific perspective...

Re: Nauvoo Expositor

One of my biggest aha moments was realizing how stupid I was to think that Joseph and Hyrum went to Carthage Jail because of some kind of evil conspiracy by Satan to silence the True Prophet. Quite the opposite actually. Joseph got himself thrown in jail by trying to silence his own former cohorts e...

Re: Does it really matter ?

In my formal life as a believer I had perfect know it all answers to the complete afterlife from the moment of death until eternity. Leaving the bubble meant acknowledging I didn’t really have a clue as to what would really happen after the moment of death. The good news is I got to acknowledge my c...

Your brain on Mormonism

Anyone else ever feel sometimes like they wasted a lot of time and energy learning the details and history of a fake religion? All those hours over the years spent rereading and studying and trying to get in the minds of fake characters and remember the details of a fictional history. Might as well ...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?

I would never have chosen divorce myself but it was forced on me years ago. In hindsight the Church is such an insidious mind f***ing cult that you really need a complete enema to flush it out of your system. For me I don’t think I could have made as clean a break without divorce and living far away...

Re: An alternate perspective on marriage

It’s a tough conundrum and maybe impossible trying to ease someone else out of the church. If it’s done too quickly it’s like letting a wild animal out of its cage. I think a person has to go through years of deep personal turmoil and reflection to safely remove the cult mindset on their own terms. ...

An alternate perspective on marriage

Thought I’d share my story after occasionally lurking for the last 7 years or so. I see a lot of you struggling with mixed faith marriages to TBM spouses and feeling trapped and tied to a cult you can never escape. I can offer a different perspective that a lot of time and distance and unique circum...
