Re: The Great Rib Debate

We excavated some really beautifully made copper clamshell tweezers at a site in Peru where I was working, dated to about 1000 AD. If only those copper clamshell tweezers had "Property of Moroni" printed on the side, then Hagoth would have the left wing of the new BYU Archaeological Center named af...

Re: LDS Theology Question

In any event, the JW's have the name right. His name was NOT Jesus (the masculine ending "us" was added later by Romans) ... should be The Church of Yahweh ... for all the to-do about the "correct" name of the church, they do not have the name right. :D Angel, what about Jesus full Aramaic/Hebrew n...

Re: What if? New HBO Show on Mormonism's Beginnings

For character development and authenticity, what kind of accent did the folks have back then? Did JS and others still have a British accent of sorts? Or had the American accent evolved yet? Not sure, but it would be fun if young Joseph Smith used the phrase "it came to pass" at the start of some se...

Re: Who has seen the new Magic Rock™ video?

Would have been nice to include the anachronism of "spectacles" for the U&T. Yeah, and they still lie about how the so-called pre-historic Nephite spectacles were used to translate the BoM. At least the new video portrayed the Urim and Thummim as a breastplate with two stones rather than spectacles...

Re: Who has seen the new Magic Rock™ video?

It was pretty gutsy of the Church to produce such a video about the usage of seer stones. It will be enough to satisfy both TBMs and the most credulous of potential converts. For all those gentiles, it will serve as laugh producing example of what ninny-heads those Mormons are in believing such stuf...

Re: What if? New HBO Show on Mormonism's Beginnings

Who would you like to see cast as the characters? Emilia Clarke as Emma or Fanny? Jack Black as Brigham in his latter-days, Pee Wee Herman as Sidney Rigdon, Steve Buscemi as Pappy Smith, Danny Trejo as Orin Porter Rockwell, Zoe Saldana as Jane Manning James, Dakota Fanning as Fanny Alger. Not famil...

Re: What if? New HBO Show on Mormonism's Beginnings

If I remember correctly, it’s talked about in the Mormon Wellness Podcast episode 013. She mentions that there’s an entry in Joseph’s journal perhaps of a stay with some folks who follow Emanuel Swedenborg? I’ll have to see if I can find this entry in the Joseph Smith papers. That would certainly h...

LDS Theology Question

The LDS Church has both Yahweh and Elohim on their theology roster. Do they also have an Adonai and an El Shaddai?

Re: Wheat, wheat, wheat, still giving me the occasional nightmares

When I hear the name Bulgar Wheat, I think of tall swarthy stalks of wheat riding on horseback from the Caucus, hell-bent on swooping down and conquering the Balkans. Maybe not the stuff of a nightmare, but it could make for a good Jimmy Fallon skit.

This sounds new to me. Could you tell us more about this stay?

I was intrigued by Morrissey being called the "Oswald Mosley of Pop". So much so, that I had to google Oswald Mosley to understand the reference.

Re: Creative Mormon Mythology

Getting Adamites to the Old World One of the postulates of LDS apologetics is that Adam and Eve lived outside Independence, Missouri. When asked how they got to the Old World for their descendant's biblical adventures, apologists point to the time when there was the super-continent of Pangea. One p...

It's there.
Gobekli Tepe (means "belly hill" in Turkish) is indeed interesting in that it is 6000 years older than Stonehenge. To create this structure required hundreds of workers, all needing to be housed and fed. Makes me wonder if they had a good rib joint nearby.

Re: Still no thread on President Oak’s anti-LGBT bigotry?

Every time Oaks speaks the Church loses some young members. The Millenials do not want to be associated with an organization that promotes hatred and intolerance. So why do it? The answer is that Oaks and some of the other Brethren are just wired that way.

Apologetic Decepticons

Not all robots are bad. Most are good except for those Decepticons who give the rest a bad name by continually lying. These Decepticons even have a phrase for this deceptive behavior: "Lying for Bender". It's not like Bender asked them to lie unless it was securing him some cigars or whiskey - which...

The Great Rib Debate

Over at some LDS board: http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/71959-adam-and-eve-the-rib/ there is an ongoing discussion as to whether Eve was created from the rib of Adam was literal or merely a figurative manner of speech, as in the matter of Peor vs Madam Patterini. Those on the literal side (such ...

Re: The Artful Dodger of Mormon Apologetics

Just because something was torn out of a journal and hidden in a safe in a locked office does not mean it was not available to all - well, only if you are going by the common English definition of those words - but certainly not the well understood meaning of those same words in the Alternate Apolog...

I want to be plasticized and paraded around major metropolitan cities as part of the Bodies Exhibit. Re: Help with outing myself?

I had a dream recently where I went to the temple with All of my TBM family. Everyone was watching the computer screen when they scanned my temple recommend. Suddenly Mick Jagger appeared on the screen dressed in a white suit, with a white shirt and white tie. He smiles and we see dazzling white te...
