Re: I Am Jane Manning

For Jane Elizabeth Manning James many years of faithful devotion to the Church, she was allowed to be sealed as a servant to the Joseph Smith family. The ceremony took place on May 18, 1894, with Joseph F. Smith acting as proxy for Joseph Smith, and Bathsheba W. Smith acting as proxy for James (who ...

Aww, I was hoping this would be about brain nourishment such as espresso ice cream and masaman curry.

It is a shame that cloning was not at a more advanced state. Another Elder Bednar and a whole slew of Elder Rasbands to help bolster him would really be something.

Re: Hierarchy and the Amazing Shrinking Gospel

I've been told that COJCOLDSism will never have a systematic theology because of its emphasis on continuing revelation and the possibility that such a revelation could overturn previous precepts.

Re: My theory on Sam Young

5 May, 1898 – The First Presidency and Twelve discussed the Word of Wisdom. One member read, from the twelfth volume of the Journal of Discourses, a statement by Brigham Young that seemed to support the notion that the Word of Wisdom was a commandment of God. Lorenzo Snow, then President of the Cou...

Re: My theory on Sam Young

The bishop interview seems like a bit of melding between the Catholic confessional and the techniques used by a district attorney writing a column for Penthouse Letters. I've read that there really is no direct equivalent between this COJCOLDS practice and that of any other faith tradition.

Re: Hey, is the name Mormon up for grabs now?

To answer the up for grabs question, it seems to me that the ability to refer to themselves as Mormons is in the hands of the non-Brighamite sects now. I suppose when some gentile inquires about the Utah Mormons from now on we can tell them those so-called "Mormons" are just a bunch of polygamists a...

Re: What's the deal with the social media fast?

Apparently, formerly-LDS women candidates in the November elections are bemoaning this prohibition from social media since it will hinder their campaign messages. The solution? Have their husbands and male children preside over the social media for them.

Re: Ordained minister

Yep, you can literally become an ordained minister for the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But is that really equivalent to what you get at the Wizard Training Center in Provo, Utah? If you are super lucky you might even get your hands on the legendary Mission President's Stone found in a l...

Re: Two Churches - I'm finally starting to get it

...there will be a place for them in Eternal SmoothieLand. If the idea that loyal COJCOLDS will get their own planets and will be required to mass produce spirit babies through perpetual eternal copulations has been nixed, then what is the purpose of all that non-smoothie stuff? Anyway, the whole i...

Re: Church Members Without a Name

How about... The Members Okay. 8-) A Catholic, a Muslim, and a Mormon walk into the Provo offices of NAMBLA. The Catholic goes to the counter and the receptionist asks his affiliation. "I'm a Catholic," he says. The receptionist informs him that they do not take Catholics. Next, the Muslim goes to ...

Mormon as a "Devil Word"

I may not agree with President Nelson that Mormon is a "Devil word", but I accept his right to declare it to be such. Members are going to need to restock their library shelves with books devoid of the word Mormon. Not sure what they will rename their main book. It would be interesting to do the Sal...

Re: Church Members Without a Name

Why not: COJCOLDSists COJCOLDSics or COJCOLDSalians? There has to be a short standardized name or people will keep using LDS or Mormon. Offering a name change for the Church without offering a new name that members can call themselves seems short sided. Even if the desire to deep six the Mormon bra...

Re: Two Churches - I'm finally starting to get it

Two churches: 1) the church that has history, doctrine, and philosophy, 2) the church of culture, authority figures and daily marching orders. Seems like a pretty wise observation to me, since it fits with types of people you find on the pews every Sunday. Maybe some gradation exists, but there is ...

Re: Temple endowment-ancient origins

At least the Mason's costumes are a bit unique, and more ornate. That was from a time when the robes were hand tailored. For a Church numbering in the millions, a simpler knockoff of these Masonic robes was needed so the costumes could be mass produced. Can't allow too much variation where individu...

Speaking of social media, the Mormon D&D board is considering a name change due to the Mormon purge. They may soon be known as the Board on Temple Square.

Re: Temple endowment-ancient origins

I suspect President Nelson would point to the Masonic rites, which formed the basis of the COJCOLDS Temple ceremony, as being derived from secret knowledge passed on from the building of Solomon's Temple.
