Re: History Question

Yeh...well...I read the quote you supplied. Its pretty sad. Guys like Talmage, who came across as so intelligent and articulate, were imbeciles in following truth. They had to follow the beaten pathway, lest they acknowledge they had been conned, and spent their energy, money and lives perpetuating...

Re: History Question

I would be interested in learning more about this. I am aware of B. H. Robert's break with the BoM problems. The guy was trying to exercise at least a certain degree of integrity and was shut down. Is it possible the Q15 intentionally keep themselves in the dark? Oh yeah, it's possible. Here might ...

Re: History Question

The red pill brings "reality" and all of it's attributes good and bad. The blue pill sends or keeps him in the false world of the Matrix where there is artificial security and blissful ignorance. BH Roberts once requested to present his research report on Joseph Smith to the Brethren. The Brethren ...

Re: E.T. phone home!

Get needed support from families? More like more guilt from families. If a missionary is in the beginning phases of starting to question the mission or suffer from depression, what is going to happen to them when they call home? TBM mom and dad are going to say how proud they are of them for servin...

Re: E.T. phone home!

I think this is TOTALLY related to how many missionaries are coming home early. Years ago TSCC leadership bragged about how many missionaries there were in the field. Again, sleight of hand (or numbers) because out of that number, massive amounts were coming home early. Was it 1/3 or them? The goal ...

Re: Dallin Oaks: “I suggest that research is not the answer"

Mormon leadership just hopes members don't think that deeply about it. Its amazing to me that, with the falling off of convert baptisms (I wonder how big that fall really is?)...the leaders are turning their focus more toward keeping those who are currently in. Them there numbers ain't looking good...

Re: Lazy Theology and Selective Scripture Reading

But he was a humble man. Here's a modest little addition he made to Genesis 50: 30 And again, a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins; and not to the bringing forth of my word only, saith the Lord, but to...

Research is not the answer? Bahahahahahah!!!!!      More seriously now... TSCC use to teach that we should seek learning, even by study and by faith. Study of what do you ask? BOOKS! Duh! And, we are supposed to learn about history as well. That's in that same scriptur...

Re: Lazy Theology and Selective Scripture Reading

I think the problem is more perspective and approach base. In Science, you start with the data. From that, you conjecture and derive working conclusions that you apply the data to and its either supported or not. In Religion, you start with the conclusions, and you cherry pick the doctrine, perhaps ...

Re: New Gospel Topics Essay - BOM Geography

I read the BoM and Fanny Alger ones. That last one was ridiculous. The church has found a way to obfuscate at a new level:...understate the entire topic and do so in a way to completely white-wash it.

Re: WOW. The natural history sure blows holes in LDS Theology!

So because of my upbringing I have always avoided a lot of natural history stuff, especially evolution. I decided about 15 years ago that it was ok for me to accept evolution, and eventually embrace it. That being said I never actually studied it. Because of this thread I have been devouring inform...

Re: Patriarchal Blessings?

I never received a Patriarchal Blessing. Never got one before I left the Church as a teenager. When I rejoined years later, I was past the age where I would put any stock in fortune telling. Been there done that at the State Fair. My fortune had already been cast. Sounds like an opportunity for a g...

Re: The Purge

In my mission, we were told by the traveling GAs that we were, at that time, the strictest mission in the world. We only had 2 meals a day, couldn't leave our flat without wearing our whites, no music except MoTab,...and we got in trouble if we didn't tract at least 40 hours a week. Most missionarie...

Re: 2nd Anointing Lost and Found

I read a dissertation paper from a BYU PhD candidate where he argued that the primary reason the church had to go with BY was because BY had his "second anointing blessings". Consequently, with the keys, he could pass that blessing along. So, the church could only go with the 'fullness of the PH'. ...

I'm further into the book. The pyramids of Egypt. They are an enigma to the scholars. And, in that arena, its quite interesting how they parallel TSCC with regard to arrogant hierarchical authority. Hancock points out there are some INTERESTING anomalies associated with the pyramids, such as its hei...

I got a sh!t load of crap, and most of it hit the can about 5 years ago. Besides,...kindle has most of the books now anyway. I wish I could get back the emotional turmoil and struggle my mission caused, and the health it damaged. I remember seeing at least 5 different missionaries be destroyed emoti...

Re: Patriarchal Blessings?

I wonder what blessings end up being like for those who are in the LGBTQ community. I've got 2 friends who have TG children. Very loved children, but they've both had such horrible struggles in their life. I also have a gay friend who is an ex-bishop, and was EXED as well. He tried everything he cou...
