Re: The Trickster God

That’s actually an interesting example. The story goes that Martin Harris, who was financing the “translation” of the Book of Mormon (and for his troubles got told he was wicked for letting the 116 pages go, and for coveting his own money), apparently had problems with the idea of endless and etern...

Re: The Trickster God

Trickster God is a weak, pathetic argument that is used by those who don’t have anything better to defend their position. I couldn't agree more. And what makes it equally pathetic is the degree TBM folks will go to defend their position, even in the face of conclusively contradictory evidence. When...

Re: Sunstone Attendance?

I will be at the 2019 Sunstone all week. I will doing a presentation on Thursday about the operations, history, and future of the Mesa Easter Pageant. It should actually be a fairly believer friendly presentation all things considered. My speaker bio implies that I am an active member. But we can m...

Probably should be down in the meetings and gettogether group. But this is the one that gets the most visibility, which is why I put it here.

Re: Radio Free Mormon at Sunstone

RFM, I have 2 requests that you are highly qualified to answer: 1. The collusion happening between the LDS church and Utah government, both locally as well as smaller groups like BYU PD. I'm aware of collusion happening even at low levels. For example, putting pressure on members to "donate" land to...

How do atheists find their car keys?....

Gees,...let me think about that for a moment.

They could....<<drum roll>>.....look for them. Just like everyone else.

Re: GA Visit Review

I remember having a GA visit my stake. I knew the guy indirectly because he was an institute teacher at the U of U prior. I found his entire talk comical. It was theatrical: long pauses, gazing in the audience with a wistful stare, raising his voice in creschendo while raising up taller, etc. He was...

Re: Another nail in the coffin

Hey PR (and everyone else), I just re-read some of the posts I've put out there, and my writing is atrocious! I really can write! Because this is a more involved post, I will make sure to re-read it, make corrections, and at least make sure my verb tenses match. :-) Here we go. When I was a young ma...

Re: Another nail in the coffin

Another interesting aspect of these teachings is the creation of the "cafeteria Mormon". I attended BYU and used to go around campus thinking, "Ok, that guy is about five years older than me and he's the first counselor in our Bishopric. He has a girlfriend but not engaged. He's well on his way wit...

Re: Another nail in the coffin

Rob, I’m not your bishop so this may be inappropriate to ask, but have you had sexual relations since your divorce? I get the sense that you still feel broken regarding ownership of your own sexuality. Rob, it’s ok to be sexual. It’s normal for humans to have sexual relationships with each other. I...

Re: Another nail in the coffin

I traditionally haven’t been a fan of Wendy and her GOMI (God Ordained Marital Intimacy) ideology. But what if she IS right? Close your eyes and imagine the beautiful sexual relations among celestial married husband and wife. Foreplay begins on Sunday morning when the alarm clock of Bishop JT Picke...

Another nail in the coffin

Well, we've had several "sex" topics course through this site, and yet another one is being launched. One of the things others have said crashed their shelves was that the gospel "didn't work". They followed the teachings, doing the best they could, and overall, things didn't happen as they were sup...

Re: Carthage Conspiracy Theory

I've read statements that seem to indicate Samuel Smith's death was most likely an inside job. And we also know from history that Brigham's death (though unrelated to this thread) was probably an inside job as well. If the gruesome reports I've read about Dr. Bennett working an abortion clinic are t...

Re: Miracle or medicine?

Yes it was the missionaries. Screw everyone else who worked so hard to save you. Forget modern science and it’s gadgets that saved you. Because God intervened in the mode of two teenagers with no training in anything but Xbox. It is so obvious God gets the credit here. It was GOD who invented the g...

Re: Hindsight Bias and Outcome Bias gone Nuclear

I remember during my mission (mid 1980s) how much emergency rhetoric talk abounded. We were going out to prune the world for the last time! We were crying repentance to a people who were facing imminent destruction! We were trying to persuade people to avoid the abomination of desolation! GAWD, what...

Re: Second anointing and the priesthood

Every time I hear GAs speak about the nobility of women, I hear patronizing sexist comments. I didn't realize how bad it was until the ordain women movement provoked comments from high levels.
