Re: Second anointing and the priesthood

Every time I hear GAs speak about the nobility of women, I hear patronizing sexist comments. I didn't realize how bad it was until the ordain women movement provoked comments from high levels.

Re: The Great Rib Debate

Hey Hagoth,...this is a nice discussion, and I don't want to hijack. But there are a few things I'm not so sure the Egyptians could have done or the Romans: 1. The cutting and sizing of the megalithic boulders in pre-Columbian South America. These people had no horses and no metallurgy. 2. The Trila...

Its there. http://gobeklitepe.info/ There are other artifacts,...a massive one. Maybe we're talking about different things, Rob. I guess I don't understand your animosity. The beauty of science is that it expands to fit the evidence. Of course people didn't know about things like this until they fo...

Stubborn egotistical people who call themselves scientists. UGGG... It's a fascinating idea but the problem is that this hypothesis attributes the sphinx to an advanced culture that left no other artifacts. If evidence of an ice-age society capable of creating structures like the sphinx did show up...

Re: The Great Rib Debate

I've been spending some time looking at some of the historical geology and so forth. You know, there is a REALLY compelling argument that the Sphynx pre-dates the Great Pyramid like 5,000 years or so. The Sphynx has water erosion on it...the kind that comes from rain--LOTS of rain. Historically acco...

Re: Utah’s ‘most successful Pride Festival ever’

I wished I could have gone. I work right smack in the middle of downtown SLC, and it would have been nice to rub shoulders with this group. Back in the day, frankly, I was a TBM homophobe. It wasn't until later when I met and interacted with my ex-bishop gay friend that my feelings changed. He spent...

Re: The 'transfiguration of Brigham Young' and the New Testament

I'm more into archeology now than ever, and with the knowledge of the Younger Dryas event and the flooding that ensued AFTER the warming (which was cataclysmic flooding bye the way), I can see some truth in the myths. The time-line given in the bible TOTALLY misses the mark from archeology. When my ...

By the time of his death in 1844, Joseph Smith had also reversed his prior rejection of the Cabala’s doctrine of “transmig...

Re: McKenna Denson Bonfire

McKenna’s crazy behavior has nothing to do with whether or not Joseph Bishop is guilty. .... It is also part of rape culture. We want a perfect victim. We like victims who are pure and innocent. When I read this Alas, I couldn't help but think about the honor code crap happening at BYU. If a woman ...

Re: McKenna Denson Bonfire

Ahhh....this is sad. McKenna is struggling. I feel concern for her because I believe she is a victim. However, I confess I had hoped she would sock it to the LDS church over this. I feel anger at the LDS justification of using satanic tactics to fight the war, feeling justified hypocritically becaus...

Re: RMN meets with NZ prime minister

Unfortunately, like materialism and the obsession with money, nepotism and cronyism was baked into the Church from the beginning. Pretty much all of Joseph Smith’s brothers were apostles or other Church leaders, he made his dad Patriarch which allowed him a tidy income charging for patriarchal bles...

Re: Is NOM really "middle way" to any extent anymore?

The middle way does not exist because the church closed it. I was a middle way Mormon for about 40 years. But that way of being in the church because you want to be, even if you don’t believe ALL of it, has been closed off. The church wants you church broke or out. It doesn’t want to waste time wit...

I'm posting here to keep this from dropping off the list.

I've not heard/seen anything new on this. Does anyone have info on the appeal going on? Any tidbits of gossip floating around?

Re: Disclaimer Notices

Some advice for the COB watchers. Whenever a leader says something they need to attach a disclaimer. I give them three options. This is opinion, policy or revelation/doctrine. Would avoid confusion and all the speculation about every word they utter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oh, I agree, b...

"She's courageous," he said, adding, "The world will discover they've got a real leader here. It's an unlikely scenario, a young mother leading a great nation, a peacemaker, a policymaker, a consensus-builder. We're very confident she'll have a great future." This is a very disturbing and offensive...

Re: Near Death

I would love to hear a response to Dean Radin's experiment I posted above. The one thing I can say for absolutely certainty is this: science can NOT explain consciousness. Nor can they explain the interaction between consciousness, whatever that is, and the world, particularly things like the "obser...

Re: Materialism In LDS Culture

This is compounded by the "heads I win, tails you lose" philosophy of being seeing blessings in people's lives: I couldn't agree with you more. The outcome is fixed by perspective. I've noticed this, and it drives be nucking-futs!.... Take priesthood blessings. Someone gets blessed. No healing. Wel...

Re: Materialism In LDS Culture

It's one of the major tenets of the BoM. If you keep the commandments of God, you will be prospered in the land. The book says it over and over. I think the LDS church can move away from it, but they can't discount this idea as fundamental in their theology, just as they can't discount the curse of ...

Brian Cox on ghosts Let’s move on to some sillier questions. One time you said that the Large Hadron Collider disproves the existence of ghosts. But what if ghosts were made out of dark matter, like axions? BC: It’s missing the point. In order to have a ghost, there must be some thing that interact...
