Re: Source of the Title of Liberty

I’d never heard of this before but it makes sense. Hugh Nibley especially should appreciate stuff like this. Joseph was in Salem, Massachusetts while recuperating from his leg operation, around 1813-14.

Re: I just read Nelson's conference talk.

Pres. Nelson's talk doesn't ring true for me. The unnamed person who asked for his work to be done should be allowed to tell his side of the story. We don't know if that person has doubts, but do know Pres. Nelson considers him too weak to "follow the covenant path." Of course nobody gets equal time...

Re: Non-scientific research - you can participate too!

Did Pres. Nelson's quote of D&C 132 count as a quote from Jesus? He says it came from Jesus but approximately 1 billion Christians would probably disagree. :o

Re: Alternate Family Night Lessons

This is a great idea. I would suggest another. Read the short story "Many Moons" by James Thurber. It should be available online, at the library, or in a bookstore. Use the following suggested discussion: https://www.teachingchildrenphilosophy. ... /ManyMoons

Re: TED Talk--The Surprising Science of Alpha Males

My first question is if Alpha males breed more than beta males will it lead to more fights on a local level and more wars on a national level? My next question is Chimpanzees campaign for leader of the pack? Fascinating. My next question is Alpha males share their mates? Wow! Shades of Joseph! The i...

Re: What was your first NOM thought?

Well, if I go back to my childhood it was about getting baptized. I got a journal and was told to record how I felt. I wrote, "I felt warm." And I remember thinking to myself at the time, and every time I went back to read it, that I was pretty sure it was the water that was warm and not the spirit...

Re: RMN is an extortionist

It appears that the Pres. Nelson's god is the Church/Corporation itself. Nothing should stand in the way of it's power and glory. His approach is sad, unimaginative, lacks humility, and I believe it will be counter-productive.

Re: Joseph's 2nd Coming prophecy

Joseph's prophetic letter to Noah Sexton came in a time (1833) when such warnings were common. William Miller (Adventist) had declared around 1822 that the revelations in Daniel pointed to an apocalypse in 1843. Joseph's first prophecy with a date ("56 years hence") that I'm aware of was at the call...

The typical LDS hellfire speech

I was ponderizing Pres. Nelson's Sunday morning talk and it reminded me of a William Smith (Joseph's younger brother) quote from 1893. William: "Hyrum, Samuel, Katharine, and Mother were members of the Presbyterian Church.(In the 1820's) My Father would not join. He did not like it because a Rev. St...
