Re: My impressions of Islam
I think any religion that tries to compel women to hide their beauty to the public is not good. Both Mormons and muslims do that constantly. I think it is oppressive to women and controlling.

Re: Official vs Actual Church
The official church tends to be for those under 50. The actual church is for those older who hang onto the doctrines they grew up with. Or maybe I got that backwards but you get the point.

Re: My impressions of Islam
Islam is like mormonism and its factions. You have some mainstream people who go to church, but also go to work, live in the community and are upstanding citizens. Then you have fundamentalist that oppress women, and cause death and destruction. The question to me is how vigorous do the mainstream b...

Re: Is there anything to this?
I think the question of whether there is some sort of God is a different question than is the Mormon church anything it claims to be. Even in the minutest detail. Did Joseph have anything beyond a mushroom experiene. In my world that is the quetstion. So I conclude it is all bunk, every last bit of ...

Is there anything to this?
Over the past few years I have seen all sorts of analysis and conversation about the merits or lack thereof of the church. My awakening about the church is now 7 years old and I was 50 then, so I have seen the church from many angles. After everything I have read or thought about I am still left wit...

Re: Living to wait for death
Mormonism will steal your life away if you let it. How many us have made decisions about who we are or what we will be or do based on church influence. I sometimes think of all the hours sitting in church when I could have been doing something I enjoy. But granted if your life really does suck maybe...

Re: I Love Home Teaching
I know some individuals very much enjoy home teaching. Some do it out of duty, and others do it not at all. I was a fairly regular in my days of activity. The only real satisfaction I got out of it was when I was done for the month. It was a relief to not have to explain to a some leader when they m...

Re: You have been warned!!
I hate doomsday religions, and I have little use for a God who wants to cause that kind of devestation and pain. Why does Jesus always have to tear everything apart before he comes? How about a God who is going to help fix things without going on a tirade first. I would like that God

Re: #6 I Will Tell You ........By The Holy Ghost
I had what I though were real burning bosom moments. Problem was following what I thought was clear instruction led to upheaval and bad things happening. People would tell me things like maybe you were not listening correctly, or god needed you to suffer. All sorts of dumb stuff. I just reply that i...

It seems funny now how the members think the world revolves around the church.

Re: President Monson Closing Talk at Priesthood Session Aborted?
I could only hope in my old age that there were people to take care of every need of mine. I have no sympathy. He gets much better treatment than the average senior citizen. So a few appearances where he needs to be carted around is a small price to pay for top notch medical care and other perks. Be...

Re: The Church as aGatekeeper
Ironic how the temple is claimed to be the place that unites families but in reality it divides them greatly in this life. And even if you buy into the church narrative it divides in heaven. Be temple worthy you whole life or you get cut off in heaven.

Re: Paid temple jobs
Running a business cost money, The temple is a profit center for the church. It drives tithing compliance. The church would be foolish not to invest in quality people to run it. I think sometimes we get to caught up in the idea of working for free in the church. Of all the things the church does pay...

God would have to actually answer prayers. In an unambiguous and straightforward way. If God does that I would change my mind.

Re: Sex, Guilt and Denomination
Perhaps for some religion has no effect on sexual activity, but I can assure you it did for me and my peers when we were young. We all wanted sex bad, and I mean bad, but the threat of eternal damnation never allowed us to cross that bridge.

I accept evolution, and I accept that God could have had a hand in it. Beyond that I see no evidence to drill down on the details.

Re: Cash register installed during open house?
I don't get the temple. Never did. Heaven knows I tried, but getting close to god there never seemed like an option. So sterile and sanitzed. I prefer a mountain instead. Seems to me the scriptures are much more replete with men getting visions in the wild than in a building.
