The exodus from doctrine. An appeal for enjoyment.

I admit I go to church off and on. Mostly for my Nomish wife who likes her friends there. But even I like to maintain contact with those who I have known for so many years. So why is the church that I spent most of my life in seem to be dying a slow death. It can't be all bad. Sure lots of it is, bu...

Re: The changing face of LDS INC under RMN...why the rush?

Perhaps he is getting revelation. God is tired of do nothing prophets. Here's the thing: All indications are that LDS-Inc. is bleeding members. Even their own published statistics show this. If there was an invisible, all-powerful being that cared about mormon ism actually giving RMN "revelation," ...

Re: The changing face of LDS INC under RMN...why the rush?

I'm also thinking that we're leading up to a change to the WoW. I'm not chomping at the bit to drink tea or coffee, if they are taken off the list I'll in all likelihood continue to not drink them. That's my disclaimer stating I don't have skin in the game. But banning coffee and tea really makes u...

Re: Is there a new word yet?

Its not the first time the term Mormon has been attempted to be nixed from the tribe. It is to ingrained in culture both in and out of the church. Has been since the early days. Its not going anyplace soon. I suspect we will be using it long after RMN is long gone.

Re: 7% decrease in Mexico's congregations

Perhaps the demise of a worldwide Mormon church is occurring sooner than expected. Organized religion in general is on the decline. Throw in the fundamentalist nature of Mormonism and those choosing to escape may be at an even greater pace. Perhaps soon it will be back to a localized religion for th...

Re: What do you do with a problem like Gina?

Perhaps it will set an example and lead to more tolerance. I must say when listening to Gina’s podcast I hear the criticism, but it seems so much more soothing than liar liar pants on fire. If some one were to come to me and tell me I am unattractive it is one thing. To punch me in the nose and tell...

No one left to ex

Is the church running out of high profile people to excommunicate? Seems that way. Maybe some other vocal person will come along, but it seems most are out now. Maybe that was their plan.

Re: How to Reconcile LDS Doubts

I don’t have a calling. I don’t pay tithing. Don’t believe any of it. But still I stay engaged with the tribe because they are my people and it is still a good group of friends. I don’t really care what the leaders say. It does take a bit of patience when conversing with a believer but that is OK I ...

Re: Resign or Get Ex’d

Exed even though i wouldnt attend. My family to whom the exing would matter all know me and know the grounds for my exing reflect on the churchs stupidity, not me. If I resign, it's on me. I think that would be interesting. Get ex’d but still go to church. Take the sacrament, raise your hand in Sun...

Resign or Get Ex’d

So you get a knock on your door and two gentlemen hand you a letter stating theire will be a church court for your apostate ways. Would you go, resign, or just ignore it. I think I would go just for the fun of it. Maybe make some jabs about how ludicrious it all is. I would have no illusion I could ...

Re: The Spirit warned me of danger

My wife likes to go to those FHE old people things. I go with her most of the time. They are rather bland meetings of adults playing kiddie games.

I find it interesting that even at that age the intellectual level the church keeps its members at is very junior high.

Re: How did I believe this?

I never very much liked church. It never jived with my adventure lifestyle. I was a true believer however and went through all the motions. I was looking for something to listen to on the plane. Podcasts were relatively new and I found this thing called Mormon Stories. He had only done three at the ...

Re: What would you expect if the church was true?

I would say the church is true if it made me happy. If I enjoyed going. If my family benifited from it.

To me a church should be a sanctuary from the world. But to me it is more stress, more guilt and more aggravation.

Re: No More Pageants

Ah, but do the youth find the pagents fun and a way to make friends? If so, Kill it, we don’t do “fun” anymore. It is a waste of time to do anything because it is fun. People like Top church leaders focused only on worldly success and church approval. They are not the kind of people who need fun, r...
