Re: The Pharisee Phenomenon--New RFM Podcast

It occurs to me if the leaders would just stop talking about these petty details and get to work fixing real problems how much better we would all feel.

Re: The Pharisee Phenomenon--New RFM Podcast

Listened to both. Good stuff. Even before I dropped out I use to roll my eyes at the concept of obedience through adherence to made up rules. Never did wear white shirts or worry which hand I used for the sacrament. As if God really cares about this stuff. With all the problems going around the fact...

Re: Mormon/LDS/ETCOJCOLDS website name changes now official

Considering the changing tides in society and the church in general, I am not sure it is such a bad idea long term. A generation away gets to jettison the baggage of "Mormon". Not that it will make much difference, but might make it a bit easier to go to work in Mississippi. Maybe. But since member...

Re: Really living the Word of Wisdom

Eat sensible, get some sleep and plenty of exercise is always the best.

The word of wisdom was extracted from the notions of its day. Lake alcohol (except beer) is bad. Some of it is correct some is not. I would pay more attention to science of nitrition than religious concepts on this subject.

Could not finish all of it. This Bennet guy just makes up stuff left and right to make it all fit. I get Bill had to play the diplomat but it was slow pitch softball most of the time.

Re: General Konference Predictions

I am OK with #1 but what would really work for me is for them to state we are living by the actual wording of the WofW, so we must drink beer. Mild drinks and all.

Re: Church Going Mainstream

The church has really lost its identity and it has become more and more about devotion to the guys at the top. The actual doctrine and belief system are just getting mushier and harder to pin down. If I could give the church (whatever that is) a suggestion, it would be to stop wringing their hands ...

Personally I think they operate off the same emotion elevation the church uses. They are just better at it.

Re: Define: Manhood

My cousin recently related his experience with LDS dating sites. Several of the women specifically stated that "you must be a strong priesthood holder". I told him to reply that he can easily lift 100 pounds over his head! . He said that LDS women are basically looking for men who, in order of impo...

Re: How "Spiritual Eyes" work - personal experience

I once spent some time on a mountaintop praying like Enos. Gave it everything I had. Closed my eyes, starred into the distance. Nelt, stood, gazed upwards. Not so much as a thought popped into my head. I did start to hear things however. Mostly very faint sounds that were totally incoherent and noth...

Re: Patriarch talk

My mom cultivated a level of worship toward our PB that made us all cling to them like holy scripture. Then I went to the MTC and roomed with a sister from my same stake. She had grown up in poverty and I came from a well to do family. Her appearance was generally unkempt and she was obese. Our PB ...

Re: Lazy Theology and Selective Scripture Reading

I would hazard to say whatever book the church is studying that year they use small amounts of each book 3% of the Bible 15 % of the Book of Mormon 1% of the D&C 25% of the PofGP There is so much in each book that does not pertain to current doctrine or contradicts it. It would be difficult to study...

Re: Took DW to the temple today

Perhaps one of the great misfortunes of the church is it’s tendancy towards exclusionary policies. The temple being at the forefront of that misguided belief. Keeping out the unclean and degenerate out makes the privileged feel more comfortable, but does little for those that may need the support th...

Re: It's YOUR fault!

In a country where so many are looking to do less, a dose of compulsion to do more is not always bad. Just make sure the more has meaning, which probably has little to do with the church. But if you channel that compulsion in productive areas it could be a good thing.

The exodus from doctrine. An appeal for enjoyment.

I admit I go to church off and on. Mostly for my Nomish wife who likes her friends there. But even I like to maintain contact with those who I have known for so many years. So why is the church that I spent most of my life in seem to be dying a slow death. It can't be all bad. Sure lots of it is, bu...

Re: The changing face of LDS INC under RMN...why the rush?

Perhaps he is getting revelation. God is tired of do nothing prophets. Here's the thing: All indications are that LDS-Inc. is bleeding members. Even their own published statistics show this. If there was an invisible, all-powerful being that cared about mormon ism actually giving RMN "revelation," ...
