Re: Church Activity Poll

If it weren't for DH, I would not be going. He's doing his best to try to steer the barge in a healthier, Christ centered direction which includes teaching GD with Rough Stone Rolling in his back pocket. I have to hand it to him, he thinks he can make a difference. I, on the other hand, am not holdi...

Re: Mormon reformation and apostates

This is a fascinating read! Thank you for passing it along. I just read excerpts from my own gg grandfather's journal from the 1850s and sure enough, his property in Salt Lake City was confiscated by his bishop to repay the debt from the Perpetual Immigration Fund that his father in law incurred. It...

Re: Polygamy and blood atonement

I used to wonder, as I was growing up, why we never had any lessons about the Saints once they got to the Salt Lake Valley (except for the crickets and seagulls, of course.) At one point, I even considered that perhaps we just don't have enough documentation from this particular time period............

Re: Who is Grant Palmer talking about?

And all this time the believers around us, including believing spouses, are probably not going to be swayed much by this. In large measure, no one is coming to save us. We can all be thankful for Grant Palmer, John Dehlin, Lindsay Hansen Park, Jeremy Runnels, and the growing list of agitators with ...

Who is Grant Palmer talking about?

I just listened to the latest Mormon Stories podcast with Grant Palmer where he reaffirms his story of the clandestine meetings with the mysterious GA on numerous occasions, even more recently. Does anyone have any idea who this might be? Or do you think this is a huge red herring?

I Just Can't Do It.

I can't believe that the D & C is the course of study yet again. Why in the world do the Brethren insist on digging a knife into the open sore? This just cinched the deal for me. I will NOT be attending GD for the whole year. I simply can't tolerate hearing the "faithful" narrative again and again a...

For the most part, the anger dissipates after awhile. It's so incredibly helpful to cross this ocean with good NOM shipmates.

Re: The bed the Church is in

The saying "no man can serve two masters" seems to be quite true in this case, as applied to the church as an organization. When the church got rich, money became the boss. The purpose of serving the spiritual and even physical needs of the members gave way to career money managers who answer to th...

My personal and concise stages

I've tried to pare my journey to 4 stages. How does this stack up to yours? Learning of polyandry - depression and shock Looking under rocks and in closets - more shock and awe, anger and betrayal Sifting through wreckage, looking for a sign of change - frantic and desperate (still ticked off) Reali...

Re: Introducing the Village idiot

You mentioned all the items that were on my shelf during my koolaid days. Isn't it amazing how just one more item can pull the whole doggone thing out of the wall and turn it into a dusty pile around our feet. I'm still sorting through rubble to find anything salvagable.

Re: Praise to the Man

Our Primary program was last Sunday as well. Nothing is more disturbing than seeing little children belting out Praise to the Man.....in made my skin crawl. And it ticked me off. Child after child stood up to bear testimony of Joseph and the BOM....AAUURGGG! Don't the brethren realize that they are ...

Turning Point

Well, I did it. I told DS that I didn't care if he got married in the temple or not. For the last two months, he has been dating a wonderful, driven, intelligent, yet completely inactive woman. They seem to be a perfect fit for each other and I've never seen him happier. For years he had told himsel...

Re: Explain your avatar choice

My old avatar was this Magritte painting. I chose it because I am a professional artist and because it represented an awakening. But I decided I needed a change. As to the new avatar, I'm a cold war baby who clearly remembers nuclear fallout drills in elementary school in the 1960's which happens to...

Re: The big leak

Honestly, DH has fully embraced the fact that the corporation is deeply flawed but clings to Joseph and the Book of Mormon in a very nuanced Bushman, Givens' kind of way. For his sake (and mine), I wish there could be something that comes to light that clearly blows the lid off the church at the fou...
