Re: Major changes to organizations and auxiliaries set for October conference

...not to get too comfortable in his new calling as EQP because the church is purging several organizations and auxiliaries... If you're currently an EQP and you aren't fantasizing about the church disbanding the EQ then you're not one of the good EQPs. :P I suspect they have to announce whatever i...

Re: New handbook of instructions

Based on my knowledge of publishing, the book was likely finalized and approved weeks before it went to press in May. So the announcement to remove the POX was likely done after the book was sent to the printing office. I think most came to a similar conclusion with the May updates omitting changin...

Re: New handbook of instructions

So there have been a few responses that they are still editing sections of it, which makes no sense given that they officially released this, but you'd have to believe that this will change given that it was called revelation. That is an interesting observation. I didn't think they officially relea...

Re: What does the church get right?

This is going to sound like a negative but that's not my intention. The church can be really good for people that are insecure in their relationship with god. If you're worried about having god's approval or whether or not you will make it into heaven, you have all kinds of ordinances and check-boxe...

Re: Calling Ourselves Mormons Is "Acceptable" Again

Is this a walk back or an oversight? Meaning maybe that language was already in the handbook and no one has noticed or gotten around to correcting it. And walking it back in the handbook is nice and all but it fails to address one of the more annoying fruits of the 'victory for Satan' talk - the sel...

Re: Bishopric -> EQP: And I feel.... numb.

First time saying no is the hardest, after which they eventually stop asking. Can vouch. I turned completely invisible after my second no. It's a wonder people don't run into me in the hallways. I like Not Buying It's advice. It's how I survived being the WML post FC. Not internalizing the guilt fr...

Re: Elder Steven Snow: Most Members Couldn't Care Less

Who gets to decide whether "most members couldn't care less," the actual member or a church leader on their behalf?

Re: Ward Council is Closed (Minded)

The member who raised the "apostate questions" will go on suffering and wondering in silence. Given this comment: ...the teachers need to know how they can "set the matter straight" ... The person in your SS class will probably continue to attend in silence until your ward leaders can figure out th...

One problem with that is this was before the age of mammals.
Might wanna leave that theory in the oven a few more minutes.
1) Pretty sure there were mammals 6000 years ago.
2) Adam and Eve were created after the mammals.

Re: New youth program being defined

Looks pretty vague. In my experience members struggle without specific standards and tasks being defined. That's what happened with ministering locally. No one really knew what to do without direction, so local leaders made it HT 2.0. They even started setting quorum goals to visit in the home to t...

Re: Is NOM going the direction of some other online groups?

If it's about seeking support or validation... Back in the day when I first joined sites like NOM 1.0 and StayLDS I remember thinking, "I thought I was the only one." I felt so alone in the things I was experiencing. Fast forward to 2019 and it feels like every ward (and even most families) have had...

Re: Primary kid interviews?

I don't want to make it sound as if I'm diminishing the very serious problem of physical abuse that could occur with this change but I think the potential for emotional abuse is very high. The obsession with worthiness is already a problem among adults. Exposing small children to the idea that god m...

Re: Primary kid interviews?

My assumption is that the church knows they are losing kids earlier and earlier now and are trying to establish authority over them earlier so that they have a harder time getting away. Yeah, there must be a reason someone in leadership believed this was a good idea. The best I could come up with: ...

Re: The effects of Africa, Asia and South America

Are those new members wealthy enough to increase the church’s wealth? That’s the only increase that matters. I assume that's why we see the church involved in a lot of investments these days, they're trying to create revenue streams to supplement tithing revenues. It's probably far too early to tel...

Re: Where did this come from?

If you want to get extremely legalistic about it, Ballard has a few outs. Some missionaries have felt pressure to invite people to be baptized during the first lesson or even the first contact. “These missionaries have felt that inviting people to be baptized the very first time they meet them demon...
