Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!
End temple exclusivity. End temple garments. The people in attendance of a sealing aren't even in temple clothes, just Sunday dress with little booties. I guess the reason they don't open it up to members in general (which is still too restrictive IMO) is because the couple is in temple clothes and...

Re: Ministering Interviews
There's the "don't look bad in front of your peers" and "earn that promotion" pressure to inflate the numbers but I think there are a few more reasons. One day it occurs to you, "Why should I have to deal with the lecture for having bad numbers when I don't even control the people responsible for th...

Re: Ministering Interviews
I divorced myself from the game several years ago but I can't imagine much has changed. That said, I can only report on my experiences, YRMV. I am wondering if our ward has the same charge to interview 80% of the ministers. If so, I'll do my part to keep that 20% viable and strong. The EQP reports t...

Re: Reconciling the new temple teachings and literalism
Everything is literal until evidence that it's not becomes undeniable. I've heard that some time back the temple included language that it was symbolic and that sometime later that language was removed. I guess they're adding it back. Temple presidents must have been exhausted by countless people as...

Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!
Unfortunately, I think 2023 will be the year of "covenant path", "ordinances", "temple", etc. At least our area that is the decided focus for the year. Even our SP warned us that it was likely going to get a bit repetitive because they want the ordinance/covenant/temple message to be proclaimed as ...

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine
Here's the church's response: https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/church-issues-statement-on-sec-settlement TLDR: We relied on legal counsel, regret the mistakes we made, and the matter is closed. They should probably run a comb through that official response before officially respondi...

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?
One is that the session is now about 12-15 minutes longer than it used to be. Ugh. I heard that the change before this one cut down on the average endowment time commitment because they when from "robe, derobe, rerobe" to just "robe" and they did away with some of the, do this, okay I'll do it, hey...

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?
Is the whole thing a slide show? Wasn't the 2019 change a slideshow into at the start of the endowment and then live action film after that? Did the whole thing go the power point route or am I miss understanding this? I haven't done an endowment session since the change but my understanding is tha...

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?
Frequent mentions of symbolic - probably because so many orthodox members in the past dutifully interpreted things literally and that's caused some issues. "Wait, how did Peter, James, and John have a body?" I think most everyone that went through the temple during the literal interpretation period ...

Re: Can there be an Alma?
But one day, his lighted pen started to work and he repented and became the prophet of the lord. When Nelson repented did god make anyone higher than him on the org chart die off a little quicker to secure Nelson being called as prophet? If I were a senior apostle I'd be encouraging my peers to sin...

Re: Noah and the Flood
Have you ever been in a rainstorm? A really, really bad rain storm? One where you can't see to drive? One where you are soaked to the skin before you make it 15 feet from the door? That is a rain storm that is delivering .5" per hour. A big hurricane might be able to deliver an inch an hour. Mount ...

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
They can't see that if someone prays over them or gives them a "blessing" and they are comforted by that blessing, it might simply be because (as you state) God loves them. Not because the "blessing giver" has the "priesthood". I think it's because of the faith that they have that they're getting a...

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
Up front I'll say that I find that some things just don't need an explanation. If the church is true to you in some way, why second guess it? Now to contradict myself. It's not too surprising that thought popped into your head. We hear that connection being made at church so much. I really want to e...
