Re: Can there be an Alma?
But one day, his lighted pen started to work and he repented and became the prophet of the lord. When Nelson repented did god make anyone higher than him on the org chart die off a little quicker to secure Nelson being called as prophet? If I were a senior apostle I'd be encouraging my peers to sin...

Re: Noah and the Flood
Have you ever been in a rainstorm? A really, really bad rain storm? One where you can't see to drive? One where you are soaked to the skin before you make it 15 feet from the door? That is a rain storm that is delivering .5" per hour. A big hurricane might be able to deliver an inch an hour. Mount ...

Do you have to succeed at them or does an attempt count? Like if you tried telepathy but it never quite worked out.

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
They can't see that if someone prays over them or gives them a "blessing" and they are comforted by that blessing, it might simply be because (as you state) God loves them. Not because the "blessing giver" has the "priesthood". I think it's because of the faith that they have that they're getting a...

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
Up front I'll say that I find that some things just don't need an explanation. If the church is true to you in some way, why second guess it? Now to contradict myself. It's not too surprising that thought popped into your head. We hear that connection being made at church so much. I really want to e...

4. If the Lord didn't want me to spend it, why did the Lord give it to me?
5. The Lord takes out my 10% pre-salary. If I didn't pay my tithing, my employer would have paid me $40K per year but since I pay all my tithing pre-salary, I only make about $36K per year.

Re: Authority of the Apostleship
Maybe to do with priesthood offices? There's the office of Apostle in the MP but there is no office of Prophet, so maybe apostolic blessings are more related to the PH office than the calling of the person that gives it? Could be like a patriarchal blessing, you have to be ordained to the office of ...

Re: Changes I have seen. Does anyone agree?
The thing that I've noticed is how they "dumb down" things. Started with having the whole world suffer through Gospel Essentials in Sunday School, which is when I stopped attending Sunday School. For crying out loud- many of us have taught that class, some many times. To get it spoon fed to us like...

Re: Slippery slope data
Sacrament attendance 11% drop, endowed members with TR 20% drop, PH attendance 14% drop, RS attendance 27% drop. I can imagine tithing has dropped similarly. That's quite a lot, like too much to simply ignore a lot. I think more and more people are finding less and less value in the experience. The...

Re: AZ abuse case update
The appeals court sided with the church and said ward clerk was a bpric second counselor at the time and was still covered under the clergy exception and did not have to report either what was said in the excommunication trial or the abuse. Is it "didn't have to" or "barred from" giving testimony? ...

Re: Solution to Brethren/LGBTQ War
I assume the brethren's exit from the LGBTQIA+ war will be similar to their exit strategy for every issue over which they've painted themselves into a corner. Cut down on the number of times you preach on the the subject. Eventually stop preaching on the subject for several years. Turn the culture w...

Re: Declining church-goers and creative changes
The church really isn't set up for creativity. The church's model is to tell people what they should be wanting and then rely on people's testimony of the truthfulness of the church to feel a sense of duty to participate in the church's offerings. "This kinda sucks, but it must be what God wants me ...

Re: Why modern prophets don't appear to have the gift of prophesy
There are any number of overlapping reasons. Current leaders no longer have to pretend to prophetic gifts. I get the feeling that Joseph Smith spun up these massive yarns to convince people of his prophetic ability, to keep people dangling on the line, and to get the attention he craved. Current lea...
