Re: Why modern prophets don't appear to have the gift of prophesy

There are any number of overlapping reasons. Current leaders no longer have to pretend to prophetic gifts. I get the feeling that Joseph Smith spun up these massive yarns to convince people of his prophetic ability, to keep people dangling on the line, and to get the attention he craved. Current lea...

Re: Waiting for the Other Shoe to Drop

It used to be a larger concern but the concern is practically nonexistent these days. Maybe partially rooted in the teachings that people who lose their belief are going to hell. It takes time for a lifetime of conditioning to be broken. It's hard to do when you're used to feeling like having a litt...

Re: Reconsidering participation in ministering

With the way I've seen it implemented, the ministering program wasn't a good fit for me. Assigned ministers showing up at my house unannounced and at random times with the expectation that we'll drop everything and entertain their visit. EQPs and BPs demanding that I drop everything to visit a famil...

But wait, they're dead, so swearing an oath not to tell the secrets lest their life be taken makes no sense. So, why did I have to make that oath vicariously for them when I was doing endowments for the dead pre-1990? Silly you. You get killed if the ghost blabs. The more vicarious endowment sessio...

Re: Another Temple Facepalm

Isn't that the process? The prophet (or whoever) gets the idea that they want to build a temple somewhere, they announce it during conference, and sometime further into the process they secure the actual location. I'm not sure why the city of Grand Rapids would know anything just hours after a confe...

But his explanation of why not was just standard nonsense of "worshipping a living Christ" instead of his death, etc. etc.
Now get Holland to explain why we do the sacrament every week.

Re: Are there no GenCon rumor this time around?

Rumors usually swirl when people are excited for a particular change. A lack of rumors could indicate apathy is setting in. It could be the result of all the recent changes that have happened under Nelson's tenure that haven't really made all that much of a difference. If past changes are any indica...

I'm a racecar driver. I don't actually drive a racecar, but I could one day, so I'm a racecar driver. Joking aside, I think some of your steps are out of order. The new guy gets set apart in the calling within a week or two of the old guy passing away, regardless of the timing in relation to confere...

Remember when everybody was finding out about Ensign Peak investments and asking why the church wasn't using that money to help people? Remember when the church said that money was set aside by the Lord for a rainy day?

The church is definitely in retrenching mode, and likely will be at least until Susan Bednar's husband is in the grave.
You mean the guy who turns the young (for a prophet) age of 90 in the year 2042. That's going to be a deep trench.

Re: Oaks vows BYU will not be part of "the World"

His Pres. Kimball reference is dated- 1975 for crying out loud- and shows only indifference to those outliers who would like to attend BYU and won't because of being discriminated against. Same ol' same ol'. Rubbish. 1975? What else was going on in 1975? Oh, that's right. That's when the evil, evil...

That looks respectful to me. I'm working through some personal things lately That might open you up to being subject to someone trying to resolve your concerns. If you do end up using that language be prepared for someone trying to figure out why you're declining the invite so they can fix whatever ...

I have a question about one of the sources critiqued from FAIR regarding evidence that JS spoke about the restoration of the priesthood by angelic visitors before 1835. I looked up th...

Re: The Mormon church releases ANOTHER statement going after the AP

I saw this over on reddit. The church is trying to block the testimony of the ward clerk. The judge has ruled that the clerk is not a clergy member, thus clergy-penitent privilege does not apply. The church is appealing. https://www.myheraldreview.com/news/bisbee/lds-lawyers-aim-to-block-testimony-...

Re: The watering down of what is revelation

Strictly speaking, a revelation could be described as anything that reveals a previously unconsidered, unobserved, or unrecognized thought or idea. Which is certainly not something that could be said of anything that goes on in LDS meetings. LDS meetings are where you go to hear the same idea rehas...

Mike Lee's unwavering support of Donald Trump's criminality will endear him to many Utah voters. In Arizona last year, Lee was able to compare Trump to Captain Moroni. Makes you wonder whether Captain Moroni took home some of the golden plates and stashed them in his basement. Just the sealed porti...
