Re: Keeping up with Trump
Mike Lee's unwavering support of Donald Trump's criminality will endear him to many Utah voters. In Arizona last year, Lee was able to compare Trump to Captain Moroni. Makes you wonder whether Captain Moroni took home some of the golden plates and stashed them in his basement. Just the sealed porti...

the rising generation could do more than previous generations to spread the gospel . ... young people today can know more about Joseph Smith than any previous generation. It's nuts how church leaders equate the gospel with Joseph Smith and the church. When they talk about spreading the gospel they ...

Another thing you can add to your list...
The priesthood had to be restored. If they're so equivalent, why didn't motherhood need to be restored?

Re: The Church's Statement on the AP Arizona Abuse Story
Pretty sure you meant to bishops not do more than the absolute minimum that is required by law for reporting. Leaving out the word not changed the sentence's entire meaning. Holy cannoli, yes I meant to include the word not. That's what happens when you're proofreading and you read it back to yours...

Based on your experience it sounds like the real purpose of the hotline is:
The help line is instrumental in ensuring that bishops do no more than the absolute minimum that is required by law for reporting.

I'm fairly certain they're referring to this:
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/cal ... h?lang=eng
I remember taking the training several years ago. You watch an animated slideshow then you get marked off as having taken the training.

I'm sure the Lord is pleased but... If he was so sure the Lord was pleased, then why the correction? You may be right, the "branch president" may not even exist, but the only thing that didn't track with my experiences is that usually the pedant will abruptly stop the person doing their best ...

Whoever commissioned that painting should get their money back.
Provided the photo is of JS and not... an unholy union of the Marlboro Man and Jeffrey Epstein?

I don't know about all the references the church has used to the Lorenzo Snow quote but the ellipsized quote appears in the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church, Lorenzo Snow manual. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/teachings-of-presidents-of-the-church-lorenzo-snow/chapter-12-t...

Re: Source Says There Is Disarray Among the Q15
The problem there is that you lose the incentive to go to the temple because you are one of the elite who have sacrificed for the privilege. It would be great if the temple was actually an enjoyable, fulfilling experience, but if everyone could attend the word would quickly get out about how lame i...

We need to hear more about them telling you that you couldn't turn the assignment down! It wasn't one of the local leader's finest moments and it wasn't one of mine either. There wasn't a whole lot to it. The following took place all in one conversation, it wasn't a thing where they'd ask and come ...

Re: Source Says There Is Disarray Among the Q15
Good thing they're building a hundred more temples. With the supply way up and the demand low the cost of attendance is sure to get cheaper. That's a joke, but seriously... if temple attendance is way down leaders may have to consider relaxing all the purity and loyalty tests that are required to en...

Eventually they stop asking, right? Every ward is different. I turned down a calling. Some months later I turned down an assignment and was told I couldn't turn the assignment down. That approach didn't work as well as they thought it would. Now I'm completely invisible in my ward. I'm cynical. I d...

Re: Major Depression Diagnosis by State
I'll often hear people express that they don't feel good enough for the calling they received or they don't feel as though they're performing their calling in a way that pleases the Lord. It's more subtle communication of the same thing you mention but said more often in public because it feels more...

The essay makes it sound as if Joseph Fielding Smith's argument against organic evolution came down to a quibble over timelines. Meanwhile, Apostle and future Church President Joseph Fielding Smith believed that the Biblical account of the Creation did not allow for the long spans required for speci...

It's like a kid piling up their plate at dinnertime, "Now now Russell. Finish the temples you've announced before you announce any more."
Or, "You have to finish your vegetables (taking care of needs of the living) before you can get desert (taking care of needs of the dead)."

Re: Unbundled Corruption and the LDS Church
Is that like being pestered by the executive secretary to go into tithing settlement and the bishop is happy with your tithing contributions but then hits you up to make better fast offerings?
