Re: WML - Are you in town this weekend?
Eventually they stop asking, right? Every ward is different. I turned down a calling. Some months later I turned down an assignment and was told I couldn't turn the assignment down. That approach didn't work as well as they thought it would. Now I'm completely invisible in my ward. I'm cynical. I d...

Re: Major Depression Diagnosis by State
I'll often hear people express that they don't feel good enough for the calling they received or they don't feel as though they're performing their calling in a way that pleases the Lord. It's more subtle communication of the same thing you mention but said more often in public because it feels more...

Re: Evolution essay
The essay makes it sound as if Joseph Fielding Smith's argument against organic evolution came down to a quibble over timelines. Meanwhile, Apostle and future Church President Joseph Fielding Smith believed that the Biblical account of the Creation did not allow for the long spans required for speci...

Re: Technological advances BEFORE 1820?
Scientology started in 1953 and there were even more rapid technological advances since then. L. Ron Hubbard must have ushered in the real restoration.

Re: 17 new temples?
It's like a kid piling up their plate at dinnertime, "Now now Russell. Finish the temples you've announced before you announce any more."
Or, "You have to finish your vegetables (taking care of needs of the living) before you can get desert (taking care of needs of the dead)."

Re: Unbundled Corruption and the LDS Church
Is that like being pestered by the executive secretary to go into tithing settlement and the bishop is happy with your tithing contributions but then hits you up to make better fast offerings?

Re: 17 new temples?
I think a part of it is that they're too afraid to spend money in any other way. They're so high off their own fumes that the money is consecrated that anything short of building temples is an unworthy use of the money.

Re: FSY and good, better, best
One of the stake leaders had the brilliant idea to make it a "missionary" trip, so all the youth had to wear missionary clothes for the entire trip. Wow. I have a hard time coming up with what leads people to think like that. Behold, my suggestion has now established that my virtue is stronger than...

Re: FSY and good, better, best
All that said, FSY straddles that fence. You've got a limited number of years for eligibility. FSY is still going to be more of the same though. One worry I have after this most recent general conference is that many activities and meetings (like FSY) will be one long high-pressure sales pitch to co...

Re: FSY and good, better, best
This reminds me of a talk Nelson gave during April 2017 general conference. This is from "Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives." Recently I learned of a fearless young Laurel. She was invited to participate in a statewide competition for her high school on the same evening she had commit...

But then he had to go and ruin it by adding, "and if you don't believe this, then there is nothing for you but an eternity of darkness and misery. You will be no different than the angels of Satan." He's not communicating reality, he's projecting his deepest fears onto others. He's really saying, "...

Re: End game - the great rebrand
The changes during RMN's tenure haven't been substantive, they're mostly bluster. Changing the name of a program but the program is pretty much the same. Rename some other things. Reduce some quorums but the quorum experience is the same. Change a logo I never look at. Issue a proclamation for somet...

Re: Need help with quotes abut BoM historicity
It's interesting that the Community of Christ has been much more open about this subject. A few quotes I found: 2001: The proper use of the Book of Mormon as sacred scripture has been under wide discussion in the 1970s and beyond, in part because of long-standing questions about its historicity and ...

Re: Need help with quotes abut BoM historicity
I'm not seeing/feeling a change as much as others. I interpret what Soares is saying as Joseph still translating but not doing it through study. Like if I were to translate something from Spanish to English it would be because of my knowledge of the two languages, knowledge resulting from study and ...

What about Capacity? We have shown that several temple announcements may have been made due to unmet demand. However of the 5 nearest temples to the announced Cleveland temple they are only open an average of 10 days a month. The two England temples are by appointment only so one would would think ...

Re: NOMference Womens Session 2022!!
“We have no evidence that Heavenly Mother participated in the creation.” That's a quote from his talk? We have just as much evidence that Heavenly Mother participated in the creation as we have that Heavenly Father participated in the creation. It's an odd take. You could also say that there is no ...
