Re: Reasons to resign
"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - CSLewis ...

Re: What does the Amazon warehouse purchase mean?
It will be interesting to see what they do with it. They could use it as a giant bishop's storehouse for Europe or they could use it to generate even more meaningless wealth for the pile.

Re: 60 Minutes this week: LDS & SEC
"Um..." withstanding, I'll let you brave souls screen it for me to see how much of a fluff piece it is before I watch. There's no excuse for what they did to deceive members about how rich the church is. None. Any attempt to rationalize it away as if it wasn't a bad thing boils my blood.

Re: Helping DW with a sacrament meeting talk
I don't know how you feel about sticking to the topic but if I were asked to give a talk I'd speak on whatever subject I'd like to talk about and ignore the suggested topic.

Re: Jury Duty (the TV show)
You sure the guy isn't just acting like he's the only one that isn't in on it but really is. Like it's a plot device to a scripted show more than something that they actually tried. I have a hard time getting around a few things. If I were to have jury duty I'd have to tell my employer and that woul...

Contractors? I'm just surprised they didn't pull a, "It's our ward's turn to help with temple sewer construction this Saturday at 6:00AM."

They also say they're the True Church. Self applied labels should be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: Historical details do not carry the saving power…
The problem these idiots truly don't understand is that covenants and ordinances performed on earth by men, have no intrinsic saving power. In Christ's time the "ordinances" were burnt offerings and animal sacrifices. I think the value that they provide is the following: I'm worried about making it...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?
I don't know the answer but this comes to mind...
Opportunist - taking advantage of situations as they present themselves.
Predator - creating situations that you can take advantage of.

Re: Historical details do not carry the saving power…
That's certainly a departure from the Mormonism I was taught, which was essentially fixating on details of church history to prove the church is true. It still feels like a large percentage of lessons at church are dedicated to that end goal. Maybe it's unintended but that slide acknowledges that th...

Re: Let’s talk about new temples for a minute
Stolen from reddit: I agree. Not only is it silly - it's also highly inconsiderate of subsequent leaders, who at some point will need to work through the backlog of announced, but not constructed, temples and perhaps make some tough decisions to cancel or indefinitely postpone temple projects that d...

Re: Covenant Path... where's the trailhead?
What will the next slogan be? Maybe they'll pluck some obscure wording from scripture. It has to be short, it helps to be alliterative, and above all else it must be annoying. I'm thinking "continue as you commenced" (D&C 9:5) to address the problem of people walking away from things that no longer...

Re: Covenant Path... where's the trailhead?
I'm more interested in knowing where the off-ramp is. They have ran the phrase into the ground. I thought hasten the work was bad but this covenant path slogan is well past the expiration date. Millhouse: Church talks are so horribly repetitive. They've said "covenant path" so many times that the wo...

Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!
The wife’s aunt lives there. They are extremely happy today. They admitted they have no idea how it will be staffed because they can’t get enough workers for the DC temple. They go 1 day a week to work in DC now. That will end when they get there own. I'm sure it will take far fewer members to run ...

Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!
I gotta dock Corbitt if no one else has. He's the one that some time ago gave a talk (not sure where) where he said that it was wrong to press church leaders for change. Corbitt, the guy that wouldn't even have the PH if people in the past didn't press church leaders for change. He reiterated that i...
