Re: Evangelicals

Evangelicals. What do they really teach and believe? I live in an area dominated by Evangelicals. It's hard to answer the question because "Evangelical" covers a spectrum. Further complicating matters, you don't have correlation like you do with Mormonism. For example, one Southern Baptist church c...

Re: Righteous Corecion

The very first time I took the protect the youth training that comment stood out to me as well and for the exact same reasons. Nelson's opening comments to the April 2022 general conference come immediately to mind. The italics in this quote are retained from the church website, I did not add them. ...

Re: Louisiana Requires Ten Commandments in Classrooms

If you want to respect the rule of law,” he said, “you’ve got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses.
As I was reading along I thought for sure they were going to say, "from the original law giver, God."

But no. Moses. Moses is good too... I guess.

Re: Respect

Claimed authority is the belief system.

I suspect it works from both ends. Leaders demand respect because an absence of respect chips away at the church's authority. Making authority itself a focal point of the religion creates a spiritual arrogance that makes the leaders demand respect.

Re: Annoying EQ Lesson on Garments

You attended an EQ lesson. There's your first mistake. :P Lessons like the one you endured are indeed annoying. I try to let those go in one ear and out the other. It's hot where I am too and I don't wear the garment top (nearly year-round). It doesn't matter what a person with lack of nuance, criti...

Re: We’re back! Thanks Captain Salty!

During these troubled times ;) I've noticed something that's fairly consistent on the main board index page: In total there are 195 users online 195 users online right now. Does that sound correct? During these periods where the sessions table has routinely crashed, I've noticed every time that I vi...

Re: We’re back! Thanks Captain Salty!

I've noticed the site is up and down quite a bit. Thanks Captain Salty for your efforts to resurrect the site each time it goes down. Just curious, any ideas what's leading to the frequent crashes? Does the host have trouble running a stable database? Or is it something similar to a DDoS attack caus...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

Ironically (or maybe 100% expectedly) leaders placing focus on stricter adherence to wearing garment has resulted in many, "Thanks but no thanks, and here's why." blog posts. Had the church said nothing, those blog posts and articles likely wouldn't have been written. Or at the very least, if they w...

Re: The new throat-slitting

If covenants are an if I do this then I'll you'll do that agreement and if you're no longer interested in the you'll do that part of the agreement then you're no longer beholden to the I'll do this part of the agreement. If you don't live up to the covenant, it's less infuriating a vengeful god, and...

It is kind of a superhuman feat to make kayaking in Hawaii sound boring.... So there's that? :?

Re: NOMference Spring 2024 Sat afternoon!!!

The elephant in the room is the priesthood ban prior to 1978 that limited black families' eternal progression and of course the ongoing priesthood ban for women.
