Re: Evangelical blog article on LDS temple in Haiti

I agree. I wish it would get a ton of publicity. Anything to wake up the leaders to the fact that they are doing exactly what their scripture say not to do: grind on the face of the poor, because of their fine sanctuaries. If that happened, perhaps the ultra poor in third world countries would get s...

What is the main instruction in the new training that is supposed to mitigate abuse?
If you suspect or hear about abuse and you are a regular member, call the authorities. If you are a leader, call the Church's law firm.

Okay, that's all I know about it. I haven't gone through any training.

Re: Bishopric -> EQP: And I feel.... numb.

When I was Elder's Quorum president I was there for each and every move and service project, but I never did PPIs because I despised them, I NOMed up lessons to the full extent I could and ignored the lesson manuals when I felt like it, never guilted anyone about home teaching, and more or less fig...

Evangelical blog article on LDS temple in Haiti

 Here is the link. Why we should not build luxury churches in developing countries What effect can the image of a rich church have in countries like Haiti? Why should both local evangelicals and missionary agencies avoid this luxury façade by all means? Here are some reasons: Then it lists fou...

Re: Humor to Soften Truth

 Well, if God told him to do it.... ;) :D   He assured us that he discarded that advice. Occasionally, when I’m puzzled about something and really need help in considering other ways of looking at things, I do rune cards. If many TBMs knew I used any type of “divination” tool, they’d...

Re: Brushes with "the other side"?

I have Fingerprints of the Gods, and love it! It was so fascinating to read the first time through. Like Alas, I think our ancestors were perfectly capable of building incredible things without alien help. I have a book called Ancient Inventions . Love it. (And those things mentioned in the book are...

Thanks. I appreciate that. Often I feel like I'm not adding anything appreciable to the blogosphere, but if it interests or helps some people, that's good.

Re: A Quote by Nelson We Should All Take to Heart

You’re not afraid to post your thoughts and follow your heart. Everyone here has been very nice to me when I've posted my thoughts, even though we believe differently on many things. Even when they disagree with me, they've been nice about it, and I've learned things I didn't know before because of...

Re: Humor to Soften Truth

Someone posted this & cracked me up..: “When I was investigating the Church, a member told me "A good way to get insight from God is to ask a question, let your Scriptures fall open and point to a random verse and read it. " I really hadn't heard that before or since, but I tried it. " Is the Mormo...

Re: A Quote by Nelson We Should All Take to Heart

I don't think that is unique to mormonism. It isn't. On reddit, I've looked at exJW, ex7th Day Adventists, exMuslim, and a few other "ex" forums. Same story. Same struggles when deciding to choose to believe differently (the only real difference is that for the exMuslim, their lives may be in dange...

Re: A Quote by Nelson We Should All Take to Heart

You bring up good points. To be true, the quote should read something like this: One’s religion should not be imposed by others. It is not predetermined, because there comes a time when you can search for truth. Your religion is a very personal and sacred choice, nestled at the very core of human di...

I rather think it's a lie that he read it, though I suppose it's possible he scanned it. Too busy. The shepherds are too busy to minister to the sheep. the shepherds have no power to heal nor to help the sheep. But they seem only too willing to shear the sheep, it seems to me. Sigh. Apparently, I st...

Re: A Quote by Nelson We Should All Take to Heart

And I posted this in Support, because I think it supports exactly what we are trying to do - Search for truth, even if it means changing our minds and our religion. Even if someone else had said it, I think it would be a good thing to be reminded of. The irony of Nelson saying it is not lost on me, ...
