Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

Two thoughts on this. 1. If you have money to go to college you shouldnt be able to be on medicaid. 2. What business is it of the college to require a student to have health insurance? When I was in college no one ever asked if I had or even wanted insurance. I never had insurance while in college....

I want that quote on my wall!
People will do anything,
no matter how absurd,
to avoid facing
their own souls.

Re: Close Friends Child Came Home Early from LDS Mission (Stateside)

I wish the info in this thread could be shouted from the housetops, figuratively speaking. If the covering that hides the harm that's done was ripped off, then missionaries' parents would be apprised of when their child was ill or in danger. The so-called loosening of the missionary rules is not as ...

Re: Spinoff necromancy

As an example of my mom and the phone: I was a teenager and we were living in a trailer. We were sitting in the living room chatting. While we were talking, my mom put her hand above the phone (and she was paying full attention to our conversation). When it rang, she picked it up, and said, "Hello [...

Re: Spinoff necromancy

Yesterday evening, I was sitting in Spouseman's truck chatting with him in my driveway. It was about 8pm, dark outside. I saw someone (thin man in a gray hoodie) walking down the street via spouseman's sideview mirror, and shifted my gaze to watch mine to see who it was. No one passed by my mirror....

Re: Why would you want to help the needy ?

You honestly would be better off to have a family fund where your family contributes a tithe each month, and then when a crisis presents, you can distribute money from your own fund. I really wish I'd had this mindset when I was still a member of the Church. It would have made a big difference seve...

It will be interesting to see if it is any different 10, 20, 50, and 100 years from now. (Not that I am going to be alive for those last two numbers.)

I strongly doubt a balding middle aged doctor is the donor of choice by the parents.

Makes you wonder if even the excommunication whip is losing it's sting.
I really think it is. I'm sure it's powerful among fervent believers, but more and more people don't fear it - and some people view it as a badge of honor.

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

I wonder if the brethren ever feel like they are loosing control. Where once they could issue edicts from on high with little or no pushback, now they get pushback on every questionable move they make. I would be willing to bet money that they're running scared on some level. Leaks, bad publicity, ...

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

2) BYU health insurance has terrible maternity coverage for non-student spouses. The health insurance is very expensive and the deductible for maternity issues is very high such that the health insurance doesn't help with a normal pregnancy. So a family with a non-student wife who is pregnant has t...

Re: Mission rules are now just suggestions.

Do you all think it’s because missionaries (worldwide now) are being asked about the history that people read on the web? And missionaries are having poor “success”(baptism rates) so they google the stuff while out or once home? I think it's because they're 18 and virtually none of them have had ex...

You're really making me interested in checking out runes.

Carl Jung was a very interesting man. I learned about him in psychology classes, but they neglected to mention his mystical side. And I think his mystical side has a lot to offer.

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

So, I'm confused. Is it this: Tithing is down so BYU-I has been inducted to make up for part of the loss by forcing students to buy from the Church's insurance company, which company has highly inflated rates?

Re: Breasts in the news

So, if the woman is found innocent, and the attorney successfully sues the prosecutors, do you think that will lessen the stranglehold the Corp has on Utah government and Utah laws? And when can we say it has let go of the throats of the govt? I mean, I think changing the liquor laws loosened it a b...
