Re: DW Back To Church

My husband’s sister and his parents have church this coming weekend (different county/stake from ours). His mom refuses to go and asked my husband to talk his dad out of it (age/health concerns) but his dad says he needs to go because he is in leadership and can’t let people down, whatever that mean...

Re: 100% Jesus

Your life is yours to live. If you are happy loving your wife/family more than the church, great. If leaving them and embracing Jesus makes you happier, great. Your friend can do what he wants with his life and live with the consequences. And it isn’t just evangelicals or non-Mormons. I’ve spent yea...

Re: Most Popular Ice Cream

Peppermint ice cream way at the top (without those nasty little chocolate pieces ruining everything) Black licorice right next to it Absolutely! I usually choose chocolate because it's always available, but peppermint, pistachio, and black licorice are the best! Tillamook used to do a white licoric...

Re: What the church did right:

With everything that’s going on, I haven’t been keeping up with NOM so I’m sure this has been said before, but why is the missionary program still a thing? Why is it not suspended? One girl from our ward has already been reassigned to a stateside mission in Oklahoma. My cousin is turning a bedroom i...

Re: What's Helping Me Today

Fifi, I was thinking about you this morning, realizing I hadn’t heard from you in a while. I am so glad you posted; I love reading your thoughts. I miss my grandmother. She was a hard, bitter, and unpleasant woman; died a few year back and wasn’t well for the couple of years preceding her death, but...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

Home Centered Church! It was prophesied! The church it true!  Seriously tho... the first F&T after this is all over is gonna be hell. All the gushing and hero worship. Barf. Well, I've been telling my husband for the past year, "Home centered church, why bother going?" For the most part ...

Re: LDS Church temporarily suspends all meetings....

This is so weird. I got a mass email from the bishop saying that YM/YW was cancelled, but urged us to participate in the temple before it closes, and to wait for an update about Sunday. I'm not going on Sunday; I don't need anyone to tell me whether to go or not (and I always prefer not to go!), but...

Re: How to find a new identity?

What does the fantasy look like? How should community and friendships be? (Serious question. I'm not sure myself, or whether the ideas I have about them are realistic.) Fair question. I think Ghost sums it up well. I hope this isn't too irreverent, but I heard a joke not long ago about how one of J...

Looks like they will be dropping all large meetings on the local level as well: http://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/covid-19-impact-large-gatherings-latter-day-saints?cid=email-OCA_covid19_031020_Gatherings Wow, once in a rare while an Act Of God results in good consequences! Re: How to find a new identity?

I’ve been struggling a lot with this recently. I never really fit into the Mormon crowd; even as a TBM, I had a “group” but I wasn’t really in – but I had this fantasy that if I could just get my life in order or find the right ward then I could be a part of the group someday. I’ve spent a lot of ti...

Mormonism bores me

January 2019 I told my husband I didn’t believe the church was what it claimed to be. Things were rough for a while, but life went on. He wanted to talk through some of the issues but I had a difficult time wanting to because I just didn’t care anymore. I’d spent years having arguments and conversat...

And I am picking at Kindness and Wonder: Why Mister Rogers matters now more than ever by Edwards. Just finished The Good Neighbor:The Life and Work of Fred Rogers by Maxwell King. It was an interesting read. I just finished "Going Clear", an expose of Scientology by Lawrence Wright. I'd recommend i...

Re: What does your avatar mean?

I was so scared to sign up for NOM! I chose a user name that that does not describe me well and that morning I’d seen a heron on a walk, so I chose an image of a bird and hoped that everything was random enough to disguise my true identity. I don’t want to publish my name and address, but I don’t re...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

I live in the PNW and in a community next door to one that’s made headlines. This weekend has been crazy with the ways people have been shopping, wearing masks, etc. (What’s with the toilet paper? Do people really not have enough TP for a couple weeks?) Many companies and some schools are shut down ...

I know this isn’t the answer to your question, but I’ll put this here in case it can help someone else with this or something similar.

Books finished recently: The Year of Magical Thinking (Joan Didion) Gift from the Sea (Anne Morrow Lindbergh) – the book has held up surprisingly well for being 60+ years old Permanent Record (Edward Snowden) We Need to Talk about Kevin (Lionel Shriver) I Miss you When I Blink (Mary Laura Philpott)

Re: Tithing settlement

My husband's salary is partially paid with stock, so we paid for years in stock which is 100% confidential. We told the bishop that last year when he asked about the $0 on our tithing statement (and we didn't pay anything last year). He said that a lot of people pay that way. Maybe. Or maybe they do...

Something I find interesting. In the last conference Christofferson said: I haven’t met anyone who found the gospel later in life who didn’t wish it could have been earlier. “Oh, the poor choices and mistakes I could have avoided,” they will say. To the contrary, this thread and a lot of stories I ...

Re: Does your spouse know you post on NOM?

I don't think he knows I post on NOM. If he does, he's keeping very quiet about it. Although it's a public space and never truly anonymous, I've felt able to post things here that are more personal than I would ever say to most people in real life. After I told my husband I no longer believed earlie...
