Re: Coffee

I've just been drinking coffee the last few years but I'm really enjoying it. Some coffee is too bitter for me while some is delicious. I really like an Americano which is a watered down espresso. My favorite is iced coffee and SToK a cold brew that is very good, not bitter at all. https://www.stokb...

Re: What would you expect if the church was true?

I would expect the church to have a huge impact on the world, if it were true. Instead, a tiny fraction of 1% of the world's population have even heard of satan's favorite word: 'mormon'. Also, missionaries would actually go serve people. If the church were true, missionaries would be out in poor co...

If JS really did restore the original church then isn’t Warren Jeffs the real prophet?

Re: What would bring the Church to its knees? Brilliant Reddit post

Unquestioning belief does a number on the mind of the believer: Facts don't matter.

That is a great list and all of that should matter to every mormon. But it doesn't.

Re: It's official: Sam Young is excommunicated

Infinite punishment for finite sins.

No other culture on earth allows this sort of thing to happen yet here it is in mormonism, perfectly acceptable. Sam is a hero, my guess is that in a few years when the story has died down the church will make some changes.

Re: Marriage Masturbation

Seems very selfish for the partner with the lower libido to expect the partner with the higher libido not to masturbate. But when sex is used as a weapon, either from withholding it or demanding it from one or other of the partners, a marriage is pretty destructive That right there. Ziontology has ...

And is there really a person who thinks giving their spouse a handy is wrong? That shame can only exist in mormonism or another cult.

Re: Back to school blessings...

A few years back my wife would ask me to give the kids the back to school blessings. My youngest son was 3 or 4 at the time and as soon as I started giving my oldest son the blessing, the youngest kid started laughing uncontrollably. Even as a 3 year old he saw how stupidly goofy those blessings are...

I wish I could. I'm a bit farther south, in Centerville. If you ever head this way I would love to meet!
There are a group of us NOMies who meet up for a hike in Centerville every couple of months.

Re: The worst (least inspired) decisions by Church leaders

I realize they don't talk about it as much as they used to but they've painted themselves in the corner with how it was taught the world was going to end. BY taught that the mormons were going to convert the Lamanites (LOL) who would then team up to overthrow the US government which would usher in t...

Re: Are Mission Presidents feeling the heat?

My son is trying to decide if he should go on a mission. If he does go I will sign off my weekly emails with something like this: "You are an adult and you are a volunteer, you can do whatever you want. Make sure you are treated with respect". I would share those thoughts with his mission pres as we...

Re: Priesthood Ban and Kimball

Kind of off topic but have any of the offshoot plyg groups accepted Kimball's so-called revelation? I know they don't view Kimball as a legit prophet, but have any of them shunned racism or do they all still believe in the mark of Cain?

Who was the last prophet and apostle that was plyg?

I believe Heber J Grant was a plyg, he lived until 1945. I thought there was an apostle who lived into the 50s who was also polygamist. Does anyone know if the church was trying to cover up the fact that HJG was a polygamist during his presidency? I mean on a national level, obviously it would have ...

Re: The evolving LDS concept of God’s nature

This is a bit of a change in topic but in the same vein. Is God to be feared or loved? Vengeful or compassionate? Active or passive? 6 years ago, my BIL passed away in a tragic series of events. Long story short, he overdosed on prescription drugs. Recently, My MIL, FIL, SIL and niece were visiting...

Re: Are Wards Jumping the BSA Ship Early?

I'm a lackadaisical scout leader. I am hoping to throw the towel in early. Our charter has about 12 boys from 12-18 years old. None of them are interested. I have nobody who helps me with scouts. No scout committee. No assistant. I'm too busy to do much on weekends with the boys. I'm pretty much ch...
