Re: Bishop's Youth Interview - Return & Report

Is it the "power" of the priesthood which I hold, or is it the "authority" of the priesthood which I hold? I'll probably go with "power" because that bothers my FIL. I dont think it would be very appropriate to be holding your priesthood power in public. That kind of thing is done in the privacy of...

Re: Struggling...A Lot

If the church is at all a cause of this, you can give yourself permission to cancel your involvement without guilt, regardless of your level of belief. That is easier said than done with family etc, but at the very least you can cut out some stressors. It feels like a major obstacle to come out and ...

Re: Let Go of My Ego

In the end, I think this entire experience has hammered home to concept that humans are emotional creatures. We may all think we are rational, but most of what we decide to do is based on emotion and then we justify many of our decisions by logic and reasoning. I imagine that ego is all part of tha...

He is an Indian riding a tapir. Go into this with your eyes open and your tomahawk ready... Does he moderate or perhaps admin this community? I just own the domain. There are a couple of amazing people here who do the heavy lifting. This is a very loosely moderated community but we do censor or exp...

Re: Coffee 101

I reticently discovered pre-ground espresso. That helps a lot. Not quite as good as fresh ground, but a lot more consistent results. I have been using Lavazza which I can get at the grocery store. Cafe Bustelo is also available at Aldi, but I havn't tried it yet. I got some and will try it out. Let...

Re: August, 1836

To what extend does Messiah’s sense of humor excuse such irreverence at our judgements? Exactly! I read your PM, the forums won’t allow me to respond. I think the account I created via TapATalk is inadequate, but I don’t see an obvious way to fix it. I’m from back East. I’m in SLC fairly often for ...

Re: Coffee 101

Anyone have a espresso maker? Are they worth the money and trouble? I'd never spend more than $400 on one, but maybe one for under that. Just this guy has mentioned his espresso machine in other threads: Not right at the moment, but this morning it was a Burbon Caramel Mocha Expresso, homemade. A c...

Re: Let Go of My Ego

Not that I disagree with any of this, but you could go a long ways with the ego/narcissistic veiwpoint. Yes, tbms are quite narcissistic. But the whole church and it's foundation is narcissistic. Come to think of it, Christianity is narcissistic. Thinking more about it, religion is quite narcissisti...

After an attempted molestetation by a temple president in the sealing room, it is triggering to go back. Maybe someday...

That would end the questions real quick.

Man, I am sorry brother. Focus on talking about other stuff I suppose. I think the best thing we can all hope for is to be honest, and then focus on being a good guy. Or gal.

I pray that the great pasta god will reach out and touch you deeply with his noodly appendage.

Re: "There is No Integrity Left in the Church"

Strangely, the document Bill was required to sign in order to attend his own disciplinary hearing appears to make no mention of a promise to not record the proceedings . . . Below is a transcript of the entirety of the document participants at the disciplinary council were required to sign. See if ...

I probably should list some of the concessions or my ingratitude is just going to make this feel worse: I don't go to the temple much anymore We re-evaluated how we calculate our tithing (not on gross income anymore) I have been able to tell our adult child where I am with belief I have hinted to a...

I have not been able to get out. However, I could imagine that John Larsen is at a point in his faith that talking about the church may not be as emotional anymore. Sort of like talking about an ex-significant other that you have finally moved on from. I do like listening to podcasts by people who ...

Re: Gina Colvin called for disciplinary council

That's unfortunate, I'm a big fan of Gina. But on this, she's absolutely correct, it's such hypocrisy for the church to have outreach and foster ecumenical efforts to other religions, but then excommunicate members who have the audacity to join other churches. What a stupid policy. Hypocrisy and st...

If you want to actually change someone’s mind, follow the script first laid out 2,400 years ago by Socrates, the founder of Western philosophy. Never one to sermonize his students, Socrates led them through a structured argumentative dialogue instead. He asked them questions. He helped them conside...
