Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!
Oaks: +20 - It was a word salad, but you can certainly say it was Christ-centered. Most of the other speakers would also improve if all they did was read out of the Bible. +10 - Credit where credit is due. Somehow, he managed to avoid even the slightest hint of LGBTQ-bashing, religious freedom, and ...

Oaks: -10 for reminding us of his presence by conducting the session Christofferson: -25 for giving us permission to disagree on important stuff like sports teams, but whatever you do, submit to the church (especially when they threaten you). Johnson: 0 - Nice try at a Christ-centered talk, but it j...

Re: NOMference Sunday Morning Spring 2023!!!
This is disgusting. The day my spouse died, all I wanted to do is spend the rest of the day with my kids. It didn't even occur to me to do the other things we had planned. Going to the temple for a routine visit is absolutely disrespectful.

Re: NOMference Sunday Morning Spring 2023!!!
Just two more sessions to go, but they're going to be challenging. Only 5 of the Q12 have spoken so far. Holland is out, that leaves 6 for today, plus 2 of the FP. We're almost certain to hear from Oaks, Bednar, and Rasband today. Buckle up. We didn't hear from Nelson yesterday. He's probably saving...

Oaks: -10 for showing his face to conduct. Bragg: +50 for great talk (plus a fantastic delivery of it) that was Christ-centered and focused on a unique attribute (poise). Carmargo: +10 for a generally Christ-focused talk at the start -10 for then turning it into a Church-focused talk. Nattress: +10 ...

Oaks: -10 for being Oaks +10 for not reading off all 61 area authories being released plus another 61 being called. This new thing of putting them on the website in advance is a significant improvement -25 for promoting Wilcox Larsen: -5,000,000 - one point per dollar of the SEC fine that he complet...

Oaks: -10 for just being Oaks. He needs to have points docked every time he speaks, even if it's just to conduct. Holland: +10 for managing to avoid conference this year. These points get revoked if he speaks remotely later. Stevenson: -10 for patting leadership on the back for making Easter sacrame...

Re: Did Oaks really say that?
Thanks, nibbler. Like I said, this is a new one on me. For reference, where is what RMN says in that video: I would not be surprised if, when the veil is lifted in the next life, we learn that you actually pled with our Heavenly Father to be reserved for now. I would not be surprised to learn that p...

Re: Did Oaks really say that?
Immediately preceding Oak's comment about mortal circumstances, he said something that surprised me even more. [After the council in heaven] many also made covenants with the Father concerning what they would do in mortality. This was new "doctrine" to me. How long before we start getting berated fo...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
One other observation here. 1. It is an incontrovertible scientific fact that at least 1.5 of humans are born intersex, that is biologically neither male nor female. 2. Oaks said, “binary creation is essential to the plan of salvation.” https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/october-2019-g...

Re: Calling Ourselves Mormons Is "Acceptable" Again
It looks like the "acceptable" language has been there for some time. Here is the Internet Archive version of Handbook 2 from December 26, 2018. https://web.archive.org/web/20181226192931/https://www.lds.org/study/manual/handbook-2-administering-the-church/selected-church-policies-and-guidelines/sel...

Rank and File vs Oaks
TL;DR: Are rank-and-file members mostly ignoring the rhetoric coming from Elder Oaks on LGBT issue? A little background: I am a transgender woman who, until recently, has been mostly in the closet. I’m starting to take baby steps toward coming out. I am life-long LDS. I first starting having issues ...

Re: Elder Ballard: "There has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody"
Maybe someone has pointed this out before, but I was curious to see just what that 1970 article said. Found it at https://archive.org/details/improvementera7309unse . The story is mostly about Moroni's visit, but the first few paragraphs are about the First Vision. The writer mentions four accounts ...

Re: President Monson Closing Talk at Priesthood Session Aborted?
Priesthood sessions have been getting shorter and shorter over the past couple of years. A quick look at the video length of priesthood sessions on YouTube shows: October 2014 - 1:53 April 2015 - 1:52 October 2015 - 1:44 April 2016 - 1:30 October 2016 - 1:32 So an hour and a half is nothing new, but...
