Re: Contradictory feelings

I've been thinking about something related this past week. My two grandfathers were very different. One was very TBM - so dedicated to his callings that he wasn't present for his kids ordinations, etc. His life was focussed on living the letter of the law and serving the COB. My other grandfather we...

Re: Why shouldn't I resign?

I think you will know when the time is right. DH and I haven't resigned for two reasons: 1) we don't want to hurt our extended TBM family; and 2) I can't be bothered to do it. Just like I can't be bothered to answer the door when the missionaries knock. But, the fact that I'm not motivated to jump t...

Re: Soundtrack of the NOM

For me the soundtrack has to include Trooper, a Canadian band from the 1970s. They had a hit "We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)" that speaks to me. The chorus says "We're here for a good time, not a long time, so have a good time the sun can't shine every day." Not surprisingly it was ban...

Re: A Women's Organization That Is Presided Over By Men

I think one problem that might arise in introducing a medical topic into a church setting is all the unscientific and medically unsound advice that would be given. Up to and including healing crystals. You could be opening a pandora's box of bad advice. If the lesson were given by a trained and res...

Re: Church Activity Poll

I haven't attended a single Church meeting since April 2014. (I've been in a Mormon Church twice since then but only to attend wedding receptions. We made excuses to skip the temple ceremony. And lucky for us DD had a civil ceremony since she married a nevermo.) Even though I'm In Canada, Prop 8 was...

Thank you NOM

It is one year since DH and I decided that we could no longer keep up the pretense of believing/belonging. I took off my garments that night and put them all in a storage bin in the basement. Last month they all went to the landfill. That was liberating. Last month, I cleaned out the bookshelves in ...

Re: -800 Units in Europe

Hi Meilingkie - I just finished listening to the podcast on Mormon Stories and am really impressed with how clearly you articulated the situation in Europe. I completely agree with your point about cultural insensitivity/colonialism and dynastic leadership. I live just outside of the Morcor in Canad...

Re: Stake RS Party Notification

MoPag - that could be the only way to get me to an RS party. Hated them as a TBM - can't imagine them now. Does the reminder give anyone else Pleasantville flashbacks? Now I've seen colour ther is now going back.... The only tender mercy is that dads weren't told they had to babysit. Though "home du...

Re: Why do the Young Women need to have a fundraiser?

it has been three years since I was active in church and didn't realize that the YW are now fundraising. My experience is very different. Nearly 30 years ago when I was in YW it irked me to no end that the YM would have these elaborate camps and the YW went to the same dumpy camp and went snipe hunt...

Two large coffees everyday. The occasional latte. And a glass of white wine mixed with ginger ale every Friday night. Occasionally a white wine and raspberry float. Tried beer, rum, and vodka but didn't like any of it. I just don't like the taste of spirits... ;)

Re: Scheisse is About to Hit the Fan - My Minor Son is Probably Having Sex w/ GF

Yikes - tough situation. I think focussing on keeping safe, healthy, and offspring-free is the top priority. It sounds like your son is really struggling with things and a heaping dose of guilt isn't going to have the outcome your wife wants. My TBM mom was really upset when my sister left the churc...

Re: Big Time Temple Questions

Maybe my lack of spiritual experiences are because of my sins as a youth. When I was 13 or 14 I got up at 4 am for a youth temple trip. Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing was playing on the radio when the alarm went off and the song was stuck in my head all day. To this day, the song and youth temple trip...

Re: Dutch Church finances online

Interesting. I took a look at the tax reporting in Canada over the last 5 reporting years (2011 - 2015) that are available online. It is a little confusing as it appears there is a new tax preparer and some of the information is being recorded differently. Key takeaways are: - Total eligible amount ...
