Indeed, but my wife gets exceptionally talkative when she drinks caffeine for some reason so heaven help me!

I love Hermey's pictures. That one pretty much says it.

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Thanks, guys! Right now she seems pretty motivated to make this official. She just sent in the family resignation letter! It's going to be really kind of weird to not have the church hanging over my life in any real way. My only exposure will be when I visit my parents, I guess? It really seems like...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Well, the conversation with the kids went well. None of them seem at all bothered that we are all resigning. I think they'll miss activities with the others but other social groups can be found... Is quitmormon too much of a bother these days? Should we just send the resignation letters straight to ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm thinking it would be nice to have the conversation sooner rather than later with the kids. Maybe tomorrow.

Wife dropped a bomb on me
Out of the blue last night, she says to me that she is done with the church. Like wants to resign and everything, and wants the kids names removed as well. I had to say that we need to slow down just a bit and talk this out with the kids (4 teens). While none of them is super enthusiastic about chur...

Re: Zygotes on thrones
They seem to be trying to buddy up to Tea Party style fundamentalist Evangelicals for the strength in numbers. That means a package deal that lumps pro-life together with anti-LGBT and pro-guns. We're seeing Christianity in this country fighting (and winning) more "religious liberty." However, "rel...

Re: Zygotes on thrones
I always assumed that abortion was not murder because it was allowable in certain circumstances (rape, incest). It wouldn't make sense to allow a rape victim to kill her healthy baby after birth, so abortion must not be the same as murder. That's how I understood it as a TBM. I think that the prohib...

Re: #givethanks
Something about this really struck a nerve with the TBM wife. She hates this campaign and the fact that RMN didn't use his time to unambiguously straighten out the anti-maskers. Personally, I feel like I am the victim of a denial-of-service attack when it comes to Facebook right now. I'm just stayin...

Re: The Best Two Years?
Assuming you were still a TBM, what changes to mission rules would have make your mission better? The rule that would have made my mission better: Only go on a mission if you want to. I'm pretty shy and talking to strangers all day was a pretty miserable experience. It got easier but it never got f...

Re: The Best Two Years?
The mission experience is objectively speaking a full-on cult experience. The best two years for me? Hell no. I was being manipulated 24/7 for two years. It was an abuse of my dignity as a human being. Were there benefits? Sure. #1 benefit is that I learned exactly what it is like to be under cult m...

Re: Canonized Stupidity
* Except... "The book" actually says that they put doors in both the top and bottom of the dish-barges, because after being "tossed about" they wouldn't know which way was up, and they would have to open the doors to see which would let in air or water. Yeah: Jaradite barges are one of the first sh...

Re: New RFM interview with David Bokovoy about biblical scholarship and the Book of Abraham
Will post more later after I finish, but the Book of Abraham is beyond dead at this point between Hauglid, Ritner, and now Bokovoy. Yep, it's a good one. Biblical scholarship is fascinating and it is nice to see it applied in this way. The Book of Abraham is as false as the day is long. It's kind o...

No talks from Dallin Oaks on homosexuality/transgender evils? Does that mean we'll get two from him in six months to balance out?

Re: Houston we have a problem !
I can't tell you what you should do, that's something you are going to have to decide for yourself. I can share my experience, however. I had a moment of clarity in my disaffection process where I realized that if I pretended to go with the program so that people would love me, then they really woul...

Re: The church would collapse faster if...
I seem to recall that from a doctrinal point of view, the entire Presidency of the Seventy could ordain a new apostle who could restart the quorum. Once he filled all fifteen slots, the articles of incorporation could kick in from the Corporation of the President and reconstitute the organization. ...

Re: Dreams equal visions?
The church's position on this today is pretty simple and straightforward:
If it increases faith in and obedience to the leaders, your dream is a revelation from God. If not, it is just a dream.

Re: Houston we have a problem !
Fetchface, I am in the same position as you, still doing the 1 hour thing as a way to keep the peace and help wrestle kids so she isn't an abandoned widow in sacrament meeting. How did you handle the garment transition? For me that has been one of the last hurdles. I was quite furious with the chur...
