Re: Shift in direction of church giveaways

My guess is they are trying to adapt their marketing for changing perspectives. Mormonism is not the shining beacon of goodness that it was in the late 90's, early 2000's. In many ways, people's opinion of Mormonism had dropped significantly and the idea that Mormon's are not Christain has come back...

I'm sorry I missed it. They were having a sale at TJ Maxx. How could I pass that up?

Re: Bishopric -> EQP: And I feel.... numb.

I feel for you!! I agree with previous posts about doing it your way. I’ve been in an unwanted stake calling for over a year now (mainly for my spouse’s feelings). And I don’t even try to act like a TBM. I am vocal in my opposition about activities I don’t agree with (trek) and I give talks I feel ...

If you feel comfortable with it, can you share where you live? Some people may be able to recommend councilors in your area.

Re: Ed Smart comes out as gay

That's a pretty big assumption that he is destroying his family. What evidence are you basing that on, other than just that the family is going though changes? Ed could have very well had many long discussions with his wife and family and they could have come to the conclusion that this is best and ...

Re: New Protecting Children and Youth Training from the LDS Church

I think that Sam Young is responsible for getting it created. However, as far as the timing, it looks like this is another one of their list of positive media coverage things they can bring out to counter negative media that Bill Reel has talked about. Look at the timing. last week between the churc...

Re: New Protecting Children and Youth Training from the LDS Church

So when will they issue an apology to Sam Young and admit he was right?

Also, did the church claim for a longtime that they were the "Gold Standard" for protecting children? That they were doing everything possible to prevent abuse? Guess they weren't doing 'everything.'

Re: Ed Smart comes out as gay

It is interesting that even though the church has officially rescinded the PoX, nothing has actually changed. They will still EX someone for a homosexual relationship. They still will not welcome someone who is gay into their social group. They will still treat them as sub-human. The backtrack on th...

Re: Modesty Requirements for Youth Conference

On one hand, I'll give credit that atleast they are being equal about the rules. Everyone has to wear a shirt. On the other hand, I want to shake my head about the fear over something so basic as skin. Have none of these people gone to just about any public pool in Utah? What exactly are they trying...

Anyone else the title of this and think "Is Jeffery R. in the hospital?"

This was much more interesting than I expected with the first reading of the title. Glad to hear things are looking up.

Re: Federal Lawsuit Filed Against The Church

I watch enough attorney shows on TV which leads me to believe that this case has no merits simply based on the fact people pay money to the church in return for intangible religious benefits. For argument sake, what about tithes paid before LDS Inc. added that statement to their tithing slips? If t...

Re: Federal Lawsuit Filed Against The Church

The fact they filed in SLC leads to a high likely hood that the case will get thrown out due to backroom pressure. I would have thought it would be better to file in California or Colorado. Unless they are in it for the long game of appeals due to conflicts of interest.

I asked my 22 yr. old son if he was familiar with or had heard of Kwaku. His reply? “Yeah. He’s a tool, an idiot.”
I would actually be interested in your sons reasoning behind that.

Re: Kwaku the Deceiver

Bill Reel had an interesting point. This Kwaku kid is small potatoes. He's one step step above total unknown. His videos only get a couple thousand hits on average after months. He is nowhere near going viral. From what I can tell, his rebuttal to RFM is his most popular video yet at about 4,500 vie...

Re: KSL websites go down: Satan at work

I actually have no idea. My comment was made in jest. That being said, I could see LDS inc. asking people to work pro-bono so they don't break the sabbath, a well as reduce labor costs. However if they did, I could see it being major leak if it were to happen.

Re: Kwaku the Deceiver

Back in high school, I came up with a design for a way to run an internal combustion engine off of water using electricity to split it into it's component hydrogen and oxygen. I thought this was something that I could use to change the world. I discussed it with my friends and we thought we could us...

I think the irony lies in the fact that KSL employees like Deenie Wimmer and Ashley Kewish and the other reporters have to work on Sundays. God is pissed they don't shut down the station on the sabbath.

Nah, they don't pay them for Sundays, so it is not work.

Re: Kwaku the Deceiver

I'm still working through these episodes, so I may be missing something. Kwatu says up front that the whole premise is a case of trying to prove a negative. JS must me inspired because he didn't have access to any of other materials. All it takes is one piece of evidence and the whole argument is bl...
