Re: General Konference Predictions

My only question:

Will it be in the main auditorium, or will they be back in front of the salad bar like last go around?

Re: Looking For Work

Today I started a new job. Manufacturing Quality Engineer for a well known mattress company. In addition to being a rather short lawoff, this new job has a raise and a bit more PTO than the last one. While it has stressful at times, this went much smoother than my last layoff. So while I may not bel...

Re: Explaining religious past to kids

My kids are 12,8, and 4. DW and I have been out for longer than #3 has been around, so she has always seen us as Ex-Mo's. The 8 year old came about while DW and I were both believers, but inactive. She was actually blessed as a baby by her grandfather (DW's side). When she was younger, she was inter...

Re: Rasband's Face-to-Face

Elder Rasband's response (May not be 100% word for word): I can't wait to talk to Harry about the reasons why he should stay. The first thing I want to say to you and others who might be on the edge is - Don't you do it. Don't remove your name from the records of the church. Maybe it would help to ...

Re: Prayer Why Bother

Back in college, I took an Intro to World Religions class. One thing I remember from the section on Buddhism is that Buddhist will pray as part of their religion. That always confused me. If prayer is a supplication to the higher power of the universe, and Buddhism is a religion of reincarnation, no...

This the LDS Apologist's playbook at it's finest.
Logical Fallacy Bingo!
I don't think I could handle the amount of alcohol needed to play that.

Re: RFM Annihilates Mormon Egyptologist Kerry Muhlestein a TOTAL Wipe Out!!!

This whole thing seams to be a combo of Moving The Goal Posts and the No True Scotsman logical fallacies. Appologetics say that only a trained Egyptologist should comment on the BoA. When that happens and the Apologetic get made fools of, then they move their criteria to it must be a Mormon trained ...

Re: Guns

My son decided to buy an AK-47 as an investment since he heard they're selling like hotcakes. He's been scouring the websites that sell those kinds of weapons and says ALL guns have recently sold out everywhere. I find that very disturbing. First rule of investing: Buy when no one else is buying, s...

Re: Does anyone know?

Well, the business that RMN owns does have quite a few small below ground pools that he can use whenever he wants. However, he typically gets unpaid labor to handle the cleaning of all those pools. I don't know if that is what you are going for.

Re: Petition regarding BYU

The church also wants to see the faculty members of BYU presenting great research in their professional areas. They don't necessarily want that research to reach the members in the pews, but the notoriety received by the church whenever a BYU professor is interviewed for a national publication is w...

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

So are Dehlin and RFM the new tag team duo? I actually find that idea rather disappointing. Dehlin doesn't edit on a good day and his podcasts are often rambling. The main reason I don't listen to this stiff on a regular basis is the fact that a short podcast for him is an hour and a half. Most are...

Re: Soundtrack of the NOM

I'm surprised no one had mentioned the award winning pop song literally about stepping away from TBM Mormonism. It's Time by Imagine Dragons. A couple notes: My 12YO son is on a big Image Dragons kick, so we got him piano arrangements of their songs and they are not simplified. He is pretty good wit...

Looking For Work

After multiple furlows, the temporary layoffs that I have had as just become permanent.

While I doubt anyone has leads in the mid-atlantic, If anyone knows of a company who would take a quality control engineer to work remotely, drop me a line.

Re: LDS Church proposes new community near future Tooele Valley Temple

When I was a youth at some fireside, I was told that a credit card company once came to the leadership of BYU offering a deal for the alumni. BYU was to get a cut from the profits that the credit card company would make. The leadership of BYU took it to the board of trustees just to see what they w...

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

I finished Part 1 last night. On one hand you have the typical problem of a Mormon Stories podcast that it is in major need of editing. Trimming about half an hour of "ummms" and pauses out wold help the flow and cut the run time. On the other hand, like the Micheal Coe podcast, this is absolutely f...

Re: Doctrinal Dominos

This is the logic chain that destroyed my testimony. 1. The Book of Abraham has multiple, verifiable, instances of blatant incorrect translation. (Facsimile 2) 2. Joseph Smith did not translate the Book of Abraham from acient documents. 3. There is no physical evidence to the Book of Mormon. 4, Jose...

Re: How essential is a literal Adam and Eve story to Mormonism?

One thing I will add is that the literal A&E is not just a Mormon issue. Catholicism commonly states that original sin began with Eve. Lots of Christian denominations build off of their doctrine. I know many Christians who consider the garden to have been a historic event. IF anything many born agai...

Re: My Interview with Brian Hauglid is Up!

I'm about 2 hours into it. The surprising part to me is Brian being open about the process for writing the BoA essay. Has anyone ever talked this candidly about the creation of any of the essays before?
