Re: Coffee 101

One question for everyone. Recommendations on cleaning a stainless steel carafe? Mine had been picking up a bit of a stain and normal washing methods are not helping it.

Re: Monthly EQ updates

The nice thing about e-mails is it is simple to setup a rule to automatically send them to your spam folder.

Then if by some chance someone ever asks if you got a message, you can say that it got eaten by your spam filter will full honesty.

Re: What are you drinking right now?

On this morning's menu, pancakes, local farm maple sausage, & home made turtle lattes (chocolate, caramel, & hazelnut syrups). Caramel Italian steamer (steamed milk & caramel syrup) for the kids. That's a good breakfast before spending a day out with the horses. We are going horseback caroling this ...

Re: Marriage Vows

DW and I did a vow renewal a few months ago. We both wrote our own vows. Here is mine: I,[Just This Guy], do hereby take you again to be my love, my best friend, and my wife. I promise to love, honor, and cherish you though the good times and the bad. I promise to be your support, comfort and streng...

Secretary usually means that you get to be the one to call and harass everyone each month on reporting who they visited.

Just say no.

Re: Famous Potato Bowl and BYU

I will say that DW got an Instapot for Christmas last year. I use it pretty regularly to make mashed potatoes. Just chop them up, add some water and put them in and hit a button. 15 minutes later they are ready to drain and mash. Also useful for rice. Now that I am on day shift and usually get home ...

Re: 2nd Commandment

So if the original intent of the commandment against taking the lord's name in vain was against falsely acting as a mouthpiece of god, when did it morph into just about cussing? It is interesting that this is NOT a Mormon issue. The interpretation on it just being about cussing in general is common ...

Re: Have any GA's talked about a faith/truth crisis?

I would suspect that if any of them did, it is carefully censored and would never be allowed to be talked about in public. If knowledge of a real faith crisis got out, it would put a huge wedge in their divine providence image.

Re: BOM Origins? John Bunyan's Pilgrims Progress and Holy War

I would postulate, that during writing of the BOM, the story for a given day was based on what JS read the evening before. So whatever he was studding got incorporated into the next day's work. It would help to explain the disorganized structure. My thinking has been that the night before Joseph re...

Re: 2nd Commandment

Also, this is what Joseph Smith said to Martin Harris when he lost the 116 pages, how is this not taking the name of God in vain according to our interpretation? "Oh, my God! ... All is lost! all is lost! What shall I do? I have sinned—it is I who tempted the wrath of God" Do you happen to have a c...

Re: Tips on wearing garments with your bra.

This kind of reminds me of a thread I came across years ago where LDS people were discussing which sex positions are acceptable unto the Lord. To borrow from Pat Bagly, some people feel that 10 commandments just is not enough. When we went thought the temple, the Matron told DW that for most condti...

2nd Commandment

DW had an interesting thought and I was interested to get your take on it. The 2nd commandment says to not take the lards name in vain. For most people, that means something like not using the name of god out of context or for purposes of profanity or an an explative. Profanity has also been expande...

Bill has sent in his appeal. Considering one of the people voting on it has his integrity called out by Bill, It's pretty clear that this has about a snowball's chance in hell of going anywhere. https://mormondiscussionpodcast.org/2018/12/bill-reel-appeal-of-disciplinary-decision-to-the-first-presid...

Re: Tonga, a microcosm of church accountability and accuracy?

I would say that is actually about normal. It seem to be pretty consistent that the number of people that actually publicly claim to be Mormon is about 30-33% of what the church claims. We see it pretty consistently in the US and UK. So 19% of 60% keeps that ratio up.

Re: Martinsburg Abuse Coverup Case

I'm reading about some of this case and the stuff that came up during it. The Jensen family (parents of the molester and defendants in this case) has a history of asking for collection money from members as investments in to business ventures that they were doing. These businesses either quickly fai...
