Re: Whatever happened to the POX?
Don't let TSCC fool you, most of the POX is still in play. It has just been rebranded, reworded, and softened a bit, but several core principles are still on the books. Someone in a same-sex marriage is still considered a sin against god and may be subject to disciplinary councils and may be ex-ed. ...

Re: Under the Banner of Heaven TV show
I watched Episode 1 last night. DW has read the book and is a true crime buff, even if she isn't as into church history. So far, she isn't getting into the detective and the whole interrogation thing since they were not in the original book. But she can see why they would create that character to ma...

In Mormonism, there are two great evils that control all life outside the church. Coffee and Alcohol. If you didn't heavy partake in both then you are outcast from society. As I broke away, I found out that this just is not the case in real life. Yes people drink alcohol and coffee, but it isn't nea...

Re: 17 new temples?
I'm an East Coast guy, what am I not understanding? We've had a lot of Utah Mormons move here where I live, usually in the military and I've never heard one person say they hated living there. Utah net migration for 2021 was 35,000 compared to population drops in California, New York and Illinois. ...

Re: Was Jesus a martyr?
I think martyr is an after-the-fact assessment. Read "How Jesus Became God" by Bart Ehrman for an interesting examination of how the story develops. It's pretty short and very different from how the world commonly sees Jesus. You'll see the same kind of post-hoc development around Joseph Smith. Rad...

Re: Happy Day, Nommie Mommies!
Sunday, DW was talking about how much she hated Mother's Day services when we were TBMs. There is so little materail for speakers to work from that you could make drinking game out of Sacrament meeting. 2,000 stripling warriors? Take a shot. Vague allusion to heavenly mother? Take a shot. Mary, the ...

Re: BYU-I Censors Anatomy textbooks
You tube post on a textbook at BYU-Idaho blocks out the genitals on pictures of the human body. I can't believe this..... well yes I can. :o  I'm sure that that is just what everyone studying medicine needs: To specifically avoid any study of certain parts of the human body that could be deeme...

Re: FSY and good, better, best
So has FSY replaced EFY camps? Been a while since I followed LDS summer youth camps.
Of course, they are going more and more for the Jesus Camp vibe.

Highly recommend that documentary/horror movie.

Re: Destigmatizing Therapy
What exactly are they taking about for "de-stigmatizing therapy"? Are they trying to get people more open to the idea of seeking professional help? Of course, is the church going to do it on their part?If someone need help, will they get it for them or will it come with all sorts of strings attached...

Re: Supporting our own
I finished the podcast yesterday, and ad the end Jfro18 asked if anyone had an ideal time. I would recommend 1 to 1.5 hour. If you go longer than that, it gets hard to retain it all and you start mentally checking out. My biggest grip with Mormon Stories is their length. It can take several days to ...

Re: End game - the great rebrand
I don't see the rebranding as a deliberate attempt to align with the evangelical movement. It is mostly one guy with a butt hurt ego trying to show up the person who offended him to start with. The process of him trying to show up his rival just happens to align with evangelicals. So it's more of a ...

Re: Plagues of Egypt
A long while back (90's) I watched a program where they thought they had a rational explanation for the Egyptian plagues. It started with a red algae bloom in the Nile River. This caused frogs to leave the river and migrate inland. Once the frogs passes, there was nothing to keep insects in check, s...

Re: GenCon Social Media
DW commented a few days ago about the total lack of GenCon on FB. Same here. I have not see anything myself. I have not had to mute anyone for spamming GC. DW said she has only seen one post. I keep a pretty tightly moderated FB page. No politics or religion (except a couple exmo groups I follow). P...

Re: 17 new temples?
I would be interested in the completion rate with this mass of temples. Some things I would be interested to read, but don't have the time or effort to research myself. Under GBH's push for 100 temple, how long did it take to go from announced to completion for the average temple? Now compare that t...

Re: We don't do nepotism, some families are just more into the Spirit (TM)
You know it's a major of show the church operates when J. Golden Kimball stated back in the 1910's: Some people say a person receives a position in this church through revelation, and others say they get it through inspiration, but I say they get it through relation. If I hadn't been related to Hebe...

However, if for whatever reason you can’t say no to speaking next time you are asked, then request for a talk from GC and just read it. Maybe you won’t be asked to speak again or will become the back-up on the fly speaker who only reads conference talks. Read the original GC talk given by Eld...

April Fools Day Unmasking
Back on the old board it was tradition that on Halloween and April Fools day, people who felt comfortable doing so, would change their profile picture to their real photo. So, to go along with these traditions, here is my real face. So as an invite to everyone else, for April Fools day, if you feel ...
