Re: The Best Two Years?

Not even close to being the best two years. I look at it as two years of theft. Two years of mostly moderate depression - I am fortunate enough not to have suffered from depression throughout most of my adult life. No second language for me or international experience. So basically slave labour (def...

Re: do I want to catch the monkey?

Wow. This brought up feelings. My shelf crashed years before My wife’s. Her heavy shelf item wasn’t about the Church being true. It was about God in general. Very different than mine. She then moved onto the Church and is surgically dissecting it. She is now resigned. She decided one day, and just ...

Re: Suicide

My elderly father-in-law passed away six months ago. From suicide. He was having lots of health issues and trying everything he could to alleviate the torment, until he found the thing that worked. All of the family was very sad to see him go but accepting of his choice. We miss him and wish we cou...

Update. Teenage daughter went on church trip in the summer, came back and decided she was done. That's the last of the six of us out. I pop on here once every few weeks just to see the headlines. Take care all

This is the exact same thing I say to the drive-thru speaker when McDonalds tells me that the ice cream machine is down for cleaning with their insincere apologies!
Finally, we get down to the real issues in life!

The amount mormons pay to the church makes this /\ stuff look like pocket change. And the premise is no different.

Re: Lively discussion for NBI: Fighting for Jesus; where do we cross the line?

The group exists to perpetuate the group. It will take whatever measures it needs to survive. That's to be expected. When I thought the way of life was healthy and rewarding I supported the group and its objectives. Now I see it as unhealthy I oppose it. However my opposition is largely muted becaus...

Re: Near Death

NDE information. A confirmation bias I am happy to indulge (I ignore any data which suggests it's biological). Are you saying the confirmation bias is on the side of the science trying to explain it or on the side of the 2-3% of cardiac arrest patients who claim it as a metaphysical experience? The...

You had a dog for company. All is not lost. The idea of a dog and good book sounds utterly splendid. I aspire to it. No canine friends for me and DW right now as we both work full time.

Update. Mrs RJ has been listening to Mormon Stories on her daily commute and is appalled at the prevarication and cultishness of the church. Last night we were discussing what a reasonable and lovely person Sandra Tanner seems to be...changed days indeed.

Re: Miraculous Events- rational explanations

I've had similar conversations with family and friends and I always come back to Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings. These stories have just as much intricate details and a better story line compared to the BOM. If these authors could craft such magnificent stories, than Joseph Smit...
