Re: "Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Family Proclamation"

In 23 years Nelson will be long dead (and probably the next prophet or two as well) and I imagine the name stuff will be largely forgotten outside of the church's marketing which tries to hide the fact that they are Mormon while usurping the idea of a Church of Jesus Christ. In 23 years the name of...

Re: "Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Family Proclamation"

That's the only reason I'd go. In all seriousness, I wonder if they are making a big deal out of this, so Nelson can have his own 25th anniversary party for HIS proclamation down the road. Otherwise, that nothingburger is going to get...nothing. In 23 years Nelson will be long dead (and probably th...

It looks like concrete was a bad choice for the time capsule. A lot of the material was greatly damaged. Too bad. :?
If it had been preserved better they probably would have claimed a "miracle".

Re: What’s the future of anti-Mormonism look like?

Thanks, Angel, for bumping the thread. You brought up a point that I think is huge, and quite possibly the area where tCOjColDS is becoming most vulnerable, and that is in the area of creating strong community. While they still have the money to provide the buildings where people can meet, they seem...

Re: Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

Not sure where the streets are, but the location scouts really chose well. This really has the look and feel of 1938 going for it. The cars in this film are something to behold. Nazis, zoot suiters, an Aimee Semple McPherson-type character, an angel and devil, the Aroyo Seco Parkway (first freeway ...

Yes, Erda is now another suberb of SLC. I have a coworker who has commuted from Erda to SLC proper for years. He enjoys or maybe i should say enjoyed the semi rural character of the place. Another coworker also commutes from out that way. Not uncommon any more.

May personal disaffection did not follow the usual route of discovering disturbing things about church history. It really started from a recognition that church leaders are nothing special and that the Living Prophet was indistinguishable from any aged chief administrator of any large earthly organi...

Re: Saturday Morning NOMference Thread!!!!

I'm going to give the session a +20 for the closing hymn. It also should earn some Jesus points since it is the most Christ centered hymn in the COJCOLDS catalog. That hymn is not in the current hymnbook, and I suspect that is because the Bruce R. McHardA faction didn't like a hymn about grace and u...

Re: Will it be a softer, kinder general conference?

I predict a talk that compares the corona virus to criticism of the Church, and tells members to keep their distance. Guaranteed laugh line. My guess is Holland uses it. However, I forgot there won't be an audience. Maybe a laugh track will be used after all? I think the analogy is a given a...

Thank you for your post, Reuben. For me this a good expression of a middle way, a trying to keep the baby while tossing the bath water.
