Re: LDS fireside this Sunday on "Navigating Doubts"

It's clear to me that Elder Renlund doesn't have a clue what faith is. He apparently thinks it's certainty, and that you can somehow turn certainty off and on like a switch - at least temporarily, until you achieve enlightenment. Doubt is uncertainty. Faith is trust in something you might not be ce...

Re: Oh NOM Hear the Words of my Mouth

I don’t know whether to be flattered or frustrated when someone remembers my supper old posts much better than I do. I would say be flattered. You were definitely in fine form that particular post. I wish I had saved it. Just a few weeks ago I attended a grave dedication where the person doing the ...

Re: Do I tell DH I've tried alcohol?

I'm glad you told him, TP. For me, alcohol is something I approach with caution. I no longer worry about skydaddy being upset with me, but there are other practical considerations that I like to keep in mind. For one, while alcohol in moderation is okay, we need to keep in mind that alcoholism can r...

Re: Ikigai, or having a raison d'etre

I am sorry for your pain. You have been through a lot. I will repeat what others have said, you are fortunate to have a good therapist. I think you are doing the right things and better days lie ahead. I wish I had more than just words to offer.

Re: Oh NOM Hear the Words of my Mouth

Sending my prayers to Vishnu, Baal, and FSM. I hear that the FSM temples are pirate ships and prayer rolls get pinned to the main mast  It sounds like you have a DW that is doubling down on "righteousness" or "churchyness" depending on your point of view. So her magical worldview is alive a...

Re: What did Jesus look like?

What a crazy messed up thing this Jesus thing is. The question I have for the greater minds here is, what is the source of the God Mary sex thing? Was that an actual doctrine at one time or just one of those things that was assumed because of the Mormon dogma on the nature of God having a physical ...

Re: Giving Machines = reverse ATM

I think y'all are trying to look for warts with these giving machines. I fail to see this as a bad thing. Sure, people can give directly to these charities and causes, but people don't always do that. People are lazy and people are busy. I think this is a fantastic idea to make giving easier. Why s...

Re: Giving Machines = reverse ATM

The corporation disguised as a church likes the PR from claimed charitable giving, but hates to use tithing funds (if they ever do that). So the game is to get members and non-members to contribute to NOT tithing funds that TSCC will redistribute and take credit for.

Re: Thomas Stuart Ferguson <-- the book?

Ferguson may have been the first TBM to have an egyptologist translate the papyri, but was not the first overall. In Stenhouse's The Rocky Mountain Saints he devotes a whole chapter to a side by side of what Joseph said vs what a 19th century egyptologist had to say about the facsimiles. And this wa...

Re: Save My Soul, brother TBM

It is really weird why JS "married" a 53-year-old too since it was all about sex. Not weird at all that JS would be attracted to GILS (Grandmothers I'de Love to Seal). After all, he was known for the famous prank at the School of the Prophets where he had the elders line up via the command, "Up aga...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression

I had a similar reaction to the Angel post mentioned. Hell hath no fury.... and all that. I also made a point of snuggling up with my DW for a bit. But I want to thank Angel for posting that because the point she is trying to make is both informative and a warning to those of us still happily marri...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression

I've read those quotes from SWK about divorce and sex. Its heart-breaking, but I have reason to believe, from my own studies and conversations with therapists up and down the Wasatch Front, that sex is still the #1 cause of problems. Oh, they say it differently now--its "porn addiction" they blame ...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression

This is a document I remember from my earlier days in internet COJCOLDSism. It takes a Jungian psychology approach to a thesis similar to RfH's. I quote the opening paragraphs. http://mormonpolygamydocuments.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/MF0070.doc Carl Jung once said: "I would rather be whole than...

Re: Who thinks Hagoth should apply?

Although this might be fun, making it to SLC weekly would not be. I live in (tiny town) Idaho in Summer and Hurricane UT in winter. The commute would be a killer. I say apply anyway and get them to accommodate your distance by the appropriate remote meeting technology. You have a lot to contribute....

Re: Faith Crisis Report

I think there's a distinction that needs to be made regarding what the church knows and doesn't know. First, this wasn't a commissioned review and report by the Q15. This was a report by a team of volunteers and allegedly given to a 70 and funneled up to Uchtdorf. There's no evidence this was actua...

Re: What do you all do for tithing settlement?

Did it get earlier this year, or is it just that I have been in smaller wards the last several years so they don't start until after Thanksgiving? Unrelated note - none of us are full tithe payers this year. I half wonder if bishop will try to pull DD and DW into tithing settlement to ask. Heard fr...
