Re: Faith Crisis Report

I think there's a distinction that needs to be made regarding what the church knows and doesn't know. First, this wasn't a commissioned review and report by the Q15. This was a report by a team of volunteers and allegedly given to a 70 and funneled up to Uchtdorf. There's no evidence this was actua...

Re: What do you all do for tithing settlement?

Did it get earlier this year, or is it just that I have been in smaller wards the last several years so they don't start until after Thanksgiving? Unrelated note - none of us are full tithe payers this year. I half wonder if bishop will try to pull DD and DW into tithing settlement to ask. Heard fr...

Sunday Assembly

I had mentioned on Hagoth's thread on the Oasis Community that my daughter was involved in a similar group. I attended with them today and they seemed to be doing fairly well. They have a new meeting place in one the teaching auditoriums at the U (of Utah for those outside of the area). I am guessin...

Re: Reading the Book of Mormon in 90 days.

President Hinckley did the same thing a few years back, and that became the great shibboleth that determined whether or not you were following the prophet. Part of it is an ego boost for them, “wow I can tell people to read the Book of Mormon and millions of them do it, I’m a pretty special guy”. P...

Re: Ordained minister

Yep, you can literally become an ordained minister for the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. You told me I can, so I did. As of 30 seconds ago I am an ordained minister. Anybody need counseling, blessings, exorcism, baptism in marinara, counterfeit marriage? Just let me know. You'll need a pi...

Re: MoTab no more... it's official

I admit I'm impressed with RMN. He is a leader. He knows how to make change, and make it quick. His revelations have been superficial, but he is an agent of change. I hope many more things change for the better. Actually he reminds me of other leaders I have known who fail to understand the differe...

Re: MoTab no more... it's official

Isn't this kind of ridiculous? It's almost an assumption that the entire world knows what "tabernacle" and what "temple square" you're talking about.... It's a lot like saying, "Let's go listen to the tree choir at the library". The Tabernacle Choir at Temple square could easily be a Jewish ...

I think Jeff Flake is awesome.
Same!
Agreed. Perhaps the ghost of McCain was there to help, but the biggest takeaway I get is that Flake actually listened with more than just his ears to some brave sexual assault survivors who pled with him. Kudos to those women.

Re: Oasis Community - my new church?

I was thinking the latter.

ETA: Not to say there's anything wrong with the Sunday assembly. We have gone to some of their functions to support DD and they have some good ideas about what they want to be. We went to their pie and beer day July social and met some interesting people.

Re: Oasis Community - my new church?

I have a daughter involved in a similar group meeting at the same time just a few blocks away. She has asked me to sing with the band for an upcoming Sunday.

Many of us would still like to have community and opportunities to serve without all baggage and silliness of religious dogma.

Yes, I have noticed. "You always knew" seems to be the fallback for the born and raised folks when they don't get the manifestation that they have been oversold, but still want to stay in the club as testimony toting member.

Re: Vote Yes Prop 2

My question. Why does the church not care about this in any of the other states? I don't get what Mormons living in legal states must think of the church figthing so hard. there. I am not sure that God Herself can divine where these guys are coming from, but I can speculate. It may partially have t...

Re: Vote Yes Prop 2

There is this little thing called the constitution that the Mormon MJ blitz is blatantly trying to violate. Oh wait, they're a corporation , not a church. /S TempleCapitol3.png If Trump is a RINO , then Mormonism is a ChINO Good thought, Kish. We should add that to the NOM lexicon. Goes well with t...

Re: ATF Podcast Episode: Good luck litigating the Mormon church

I've been listening to the podcast and it's fascinating and frightening. 30 minutes in the idea comes up that the church is so aggressive in it's defense against litigation is because it is legally vulnerable because of its standing as a "Corporation Sole." With much power comes much vulnerability....

Re: Vote Yes Prop 2

To the OP, it looks like this billboard is targeted toward the disaffected. And it may succeed in persuading even some ultra conservative Mormons as well. I am thinking of the Snuffer leaning believers who will likely notice that the current leadership is clueless about their own scriptures. This ma...
