Re: Multi-Cultural "Unique" Choir

They are not asking for nonmembers if you read carefully the article and the application. Which of course makes the multicultural thing more challenging. They'll need all 5 black singers to apply

Do you think they'll ask Gladys Knight to front the choir?

Re: Custom Utah Condoms Get Shutdown

   I find this hilarious. The intersection of COJCOLDism and Utah politics can be quite amusing. I would have thought sombody in the department of health would have had a clue about how uber-mormons like the guvypoo would TOTALLY FREAK over anything sexual. I can only imagine the fire...

Re: Unaffiliated

I am guessing that you are talking about the letter from your County Clerk. If you are in Salt Lake County you got the same letter that I did. That letter is very specifically about the upcoming presidential primary in Utah. By way of coffee shop discussion let me give you a little bit of background...

If there was one COBler I could meet on the street it would be Bendnar. I have this social fantasy where I meet him in a public place and have the opportunity to challenge him to strike me dumb, def, blind or dead. I'd call him out on being a dishonest false prophet who has zero magic powers, yet e...

Re: Finally found my testimony after 40 years

Welcome, FF. And thanks for your post on temple recommend thread. I look forward to seeing more from you. I have 4 kids also who, despite my best efforts, figured out the B.S. before I finally admitted it to myself. So i call myself the poster child for failing to raise TBMs. Still have a believing ...

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

Why is it they can't keep from stepping in it. Anyone in the business of getting information from COJCOLDS needs chest waders. It seems Oaks' Where Will This Lead went completely unnoticed by internal consumers. This quote is such a gem. How many churchocrats did it take to wordsmith this down to su...

Re: Richard Dutcher's Films Are on Amazon's Prime Video

Thanks, Ghost, for the tip. I probably have a VHS of God's Army. I also saw Brigham City in a theater. But I really wanted to see States of Grace and missed the opportunity when it was out. I do have Prime so I found it and watched it. I actually found that movie very moving. In fact this movie help...

Re: Bob McCue: The Church is like a Narcotic

I want to add that to the "one liner" thread. "I individuated" Yes, another fine variant of my favorite one liner. Individuative/reflective is the title Fowler uses for stage 4. Individuation is a normal part of human development that high demand groups suppress for their own ends. Bob McCue was on...

Re: Are You a Failed Parent?

I certainly felt like a failed parent as a believer. Now I can brag to the NOM, post-mo crowd that I haven't raised a single adult tithe payer. The weight of the failure was crushing as a believer. I very much worry about how my TBM wife handles the burden. Does she have amazing confirmation bias de...

He also did an op-ed in the NYT when Romney was running for president. In it he explained what "the American religion" is. The emancipation of greed. Fits corporate Mormonism very well.

Re: A one-liner that captures your disaffection

I cannot devote my life to an organization I find to be neither true nor truthful.

I cannot fit reality inside the church's box.

With a nod to Hermey: What's good about Mormonism isn't unique and what's unique isn't good.

I found blind obedience to be incompatible with personal progression.
