Re: The Best Kept Secret in History

I have been meaning to join the Divine Assembly for the chance to try their sacrament substance legally. I wish I had checked out their website a couple weeks earlier. Would have made my conference weekend more enlightening and family circumstances were good that weekend.

Re: Skeptiod & Mormonism

Your two links for me only opened a short recording saying I needed to pay to hear the episode. Here is another Mormon-themed episode on Spotify.

Sounds interesting, Hagoth. I should be free that evening, so I am going the links you left on the Support board and I may see you up there on the 23rd.

Re: Has Elder Uchtdorf lost his Mojo?

IIRC, his current assignment is on the Missionary Committee, the corporate marketing arm of the church. At that level you have access to the real numbers and know just how poorly things are going. But unlike being the most functional member of the FP, you no longer have the bully pulpit you need to ...

Re: For those not listening to conference

With my wife gone to help my daughter in another state, I made the choice to let gencon be as irrelevant to me as it is. The weather couldn't have been better for outdoor activities. I fished some on Saturday and took a nice hike on Sunday. To me it seemed that if anything gencon weekend increased t...

Re: My Update

Thanks for the update, Stealth. 2011 was when I joined the old board and your posts were very helpful for me. I am still caught in the mixed faith marriage system with my wife the only holdout with our immediate family. I hope to have her let go of the burden of bringing us all back as I feel that c...

Re: Mormon fight songs

Not in the current hymnbook, but in the previous LDS hymnal was this gem of a verse to The Star-Spangled Banner. Bloody conflict seems to have been a staple of 19th century anthems. And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion, A home and a country,...

A couple come to mind right off. I'll probably remember more as the day goes. Behold A Royal Army Up Awake Ye Defenders of Zion (a Charles W. Penrose text set to The Red White and Blue). . Up, awake, ye defenders of Zion! The foe’s at the door of your homes; Let each heart be the heart of a lion, Un...

Hi, Malcolm. Thanks for stopping by. I like your avatar, and I do own a copy of that movie. I think that when I first saw it the parallels to the high demand group I was in rang true to me. Please do visit us from time to time.

There's a reason there is a market for these. "Said and did" would be a bit more more complete. https://www.amazon.com/SORRY-WHAT-MORMON-LDS-T-Shirt/dp/B07CVSM9XK I have also been on both sides. The last time I had a recommend it was to attend one niece's wedding. And while her mother (my sister) th...

Re: Stupid coffee making question

I love the smell of the coffee grinder in the grocery store. Perhaps that is due to having evil jeans. The only grocery store smell that is better is pinecones and cinnamon at Christmas. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/03/91/35/0391353e29d09c527819bc47c91f260b.jpg Trying to picture these on a pengui...

Re: Three Months Down. 57 To Go.

I missed month two and I'm about a week early on this one, but it is what it is. :) Graey, your report is amazing. The Bishop's handbook should get a new addendum from your experiences. This feels more refreshing and realistic than most of the instructions from the institutional church. Too much of...

Re: I Learned How to Judge as a Mormon

Joseph Smith had to mess with the scripture where Jesus said not to judge, so it is doctrinal to judge "righteously" Judge not, that ye be not judged” (Matt. 7:1) is changed to “Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged: but judge righteous judgment” (JST, Matt. 7:2). I remember one of the time...

Re: The fall of Communism/Mormonism

One thing companies with a large war chest do is to look to grow by acquiring other companies. I had never considered that happening in a religious context but that is what appears to be happening with Scientology and the Nation of Islam. Which is incredibly bizarre considering how Nation of Islam w...
