Re: Latest realization

If you've become some kind of agnostic or deist, what's your substitute? If anything upon realizing I'm an atheist my locus of approval has become increasingly internal. No mythical being in the sky I have to seek the approval of, not Bishops or Stake Presidents I have to undergo questioning from i...

Re: My theory on Sam Young

What I love is the plaintive TBM cry of, "But the sanctity of muh temple!" As if it isn't just chock full of people who simply lie or pivot around the interview questions. They didn't go back and redo batches of temple ordinances when they find out some guy who was having an affair attended, so I'm ...

Re: Mormon - the new N-word?!

I mean doesn't everyone remember the NAACP's famous, "I'm a N-." campaign? Or their official news portal www.n-newsroom.org? Or their world famous N- Tabernacle Choir? Sorry, any Mormon that tries that on me is just going to get laughed at... hard.

Re: RMN's "Correction"

The name of Christ's church should be the Church of Jesus Christ. But I have to disagree with his contention that because a church is "named" the church of Jesus Christ, therefore it must be his church. The two concepts aren't necessarily connected at all. You can easily smash that idea with a quic...

Re: Proud to be a MORMON

What's funny is by ratcheting up the whole 'nicknames are evil!" rhetoric it puts previous comments and campaigns into an interesting position. If being called Mormon is a victory for Satan then Christ's supposed church engaged in a major media campaign for and in behalf of Satan. You also have prev...

Anyone ever wonder if they're on the road to alcoholism? I did for a while, but then I realize it wasn't because alcohol was causing problems in my life but because I'd been pretty heavily programmed that consuming alcohol = alcoholic. Now I did realize at one point that in my giddiness to tr...

Re: 20% of missionaries coming home early

I like this idea in theory, but this will quickly be a chance for virtue signalling. "Elder Smith stayed two years , not just 6, 12, or 18 months like those possibly less faithful missionaries. He made a greater sacrifice for the prophet." Yep, you might be able to dig into the policies and doctrin...

Re: Being Unnecessary

Now, if we could only organize a women’s strike and do just that. Take the sunday and all of us just stay in bed. But too many women think it is the way it is supposed to be and women are really supposed to be invisible. I suppose that really the men would notice before church when the women were n...

Re: What Does It Mean to be Worthy

It would be nice to have a sense of being "worth" ?something?. I keep looking outside of myself for that worth, but that always brings me back to noticing that I am not perfect, and in all of those imperfections I seem to lose my sense of worth. Tying worth to perfection is toxic; nobody is perfect...

Re: What Does It Mean to be Worthy

Where would a sense of worthiness come from? In my experience it isn't a sense of worthiness that needs a source, it is a sense of unworthiness that has a source. It's much like girls and women in the church developing a sense that they aren't as important as boys and men, they aren't born with thi...

Re: Elder Cook to Take on Church History Questions!

What gets me is they seem to be too slow to realize that editing the video doesn't pull the original back from the internet. So they've not removed the clip from existence, they've just provided an edited clip to be held up in contrast to the surviving original.

Re: Surprised at my emotion about Sam Young

But the DN article apparently said that Sam was actively telling people not to join the church which I had not heard before, so my wife pointed to that as a reason that he had to know it was coming. He warned people that joining while Bishop's interviews can include inappropriate sexual interrigati...

Re: Spouseman reading CES letter

I agree 100%. The other thing I would do is just be prepared with the 'normal' apologetic responses that FAIR gives, because the first thing my wife did was go to FAIR. She ultimately bought their rebuttals and that so far has been the end of her willingness to read, and to be honest she did not sp...

Tannic acid? Use to tan leather belts? I can't believe I actually told people that circa 1995. I have a companion who used to share the urban legend with investigators about stomachs being found preserved in the wreck of the Titanic (due to the extreme toxicity of the tea and coffee preserving them...

Re: Inoculation? Polygamy Taught the Second Week of Seminary

Me: "That's a good question; maybe you can ask your teacher." "In the mean time the Church released an essay about polygamy in Nauvoo and Kirtland. I'll send you a link." Not that the essays are sure fire solutions to Mormonism, but the wife can't reasonably object to you providing her a church sou...

Re: What I wish Mormons knew about those that leave the church

My running commentary as I read through the article on things that jump out at me: People are accused of giving up too early or too easily. Even if said people were steadfast members for 40 years. It's an easy and pointless accusation since in the TBM mindset where enduring to the end is the only ac...

Re: The Straw That Broke the Back

I just checked in with the website this morning and found they had confirmation that it was done. That's it. I'm out. I will say that was surprisingly easy. It took less than 5 minutes to fill out of the form online and just under a week and a half (including the Labor Day Holiday) to completely pr...

Re: Is there still good in the church?

I have progressed in my testimony to the point I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the church is not true. But, is there good from remaining a member? I believe the church is just as true as the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Freemasons, Shriners, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Elks, Knight Templar, etc. These...

So is the Keurig coffee really that gross then? Sigh.... You may like them, but going Keurig is a bit like grabbing some Kraft cheese at the grocery store in the hopes of figuring out cheese. It may help you in some broad strokes but you'll be missing out on what there truly is out there to experie...

Re: Russell M Nelson - God's Conditional Love

Well God's a crap father if he stops loving his children when they don't do what He says. Guess that makes me a better father than God. Dude doesn't just stop loving them, he'll actively kill them for not listening to him. When the standard to beat is not drowning your children when they don't list...
