Re: Ministering, YM, EQ, and the Bishopric

In my ward I see the YM program flailing. The Bishopric has taken control, but is also still meeting with members during the activities. The BP is now calling or trying to call "specialists" to assist. They called an outdoor specialist and tried to call yours truly as the activities specialist. I wa...

Re: List of rejected Utah vanity license plates

A lot of these should be rejected, but others are head scratchers? Badilac (I assume for a Cadillac). W1ngman? CrzyBzy? I guess Nevada is a lot more lenient. I have seen COWGIRL, TNYTOOL, LILWNR (Lil' wiener on a lifted truck), MERLOT, WINE LF. A bunch of others that Utah would find too offensive.

Re: Tithing and fast offerings in kind....a lesson from sunday school

The church accepts donations in kind of sticks and bonds. I knew someone that paid tithing that way. You could probably donate land also.

They won't take your turkeys unless you are giving Butterball stick certificates.

Re: Another failed miracle

I remember when this happened. Her father was a coach/former player at BYU. The senseless tragedy did provide a miracle to the families in need of transplants. That a blessing didn't fix it doesn't mean that a miracle didn't happen, it was provided by this family and the skill of doctors and nurses ...

Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.

My bet is that the big thing at next conference is that they will hold a session or two in Palmyra or some other Joseph Smith site. Otherwise it will be the same old same old.

I started with NOM 1.0, and while I am on Facebook, I haven't ever looked for the private groups, so have never joined any.

Re: Film Review: Captain Marvel

What stood out to me is that her banter with Samuel Jackson just fell flat. Now that could be entirely the director's fault but when you are playing off Samuel L. Jackson in a Marvel movie and the banter is flat it doesn't leave a good impression. I may be weird, but for me some of the most enjoyab...

Re: Is NOM going the direction of some other online groups?

What does this mean, and who here has ever attacked white people? I'm not seeing what you're seeing here. Could you give an example of a time when white people were under attack here? "If you don't bow down at the LGBTQ"......What does this mean? Can you give an example of this happening? If a NOM ...

FLAK was interesting to say the least. My sister-in-law was on there and one of the more angry. I have never been that angry about the whole thing. I think I have been here for going on 14 years. Originally posted as Sonny Barnett on NOM1.0. As for the politics I just ignore it. It isn't worth getti...

Re: Are youth really leaving?

This is just from my observation of my kids and their peers. My oldest daughter is 20. Of the kids she was in YW/YM (my daughter quit at 16), about 50 - 60% are inactive. Our ward isn't loaded with youth so we are talking 4-5 kids leaving. Same with my son's peer group, but the percentage may be as ...

Re: New youth program being defined

This just screams "fail." Let's push the responsibility to the kids so the leaders don't have to plan a program. Just make it more like church, that will keep the kids happy and in the good ship Zion. I can see this appealing to a small percentage of kids with the rest just blowing it off.

Re: The Trickster God

Reading your description makes me even less likely to want to worship a god like this. If this being is our "father" he sure acts more like an absentee, deadbeat dad, who is always late with the child support, than a caring loving father. But this fits with the descriptions from scriptures, so I wil...
