Re: Hatred of a Chapel

((Hugs)) You dad sounds kind of like my ex. Even the church activity is similar. I don't think my ex has/had a testimony, but I think he just liked the power church gave him. I can relate to the abuse too. It's like living in a nightmare. And the shame and mental control. The church wanted me to sta...

Re: Hope or Hopeless???

First of all, welcome to NOM. I do feel that the people with Orthodox LDS upbringings have the most backlash personally and struggle the most and are probably the most angry. My goal is never get there but who knows. Thanks again for the love and replies. Keep em coming if you have more. Anger can b...

Re: Redefining Gospel Terms

I agree that God defines the eternities differently. I no longer believe in the LDS afterlife, but it can still be a little difficult to sit through the talks and lessons. I absolutely love your observations about Buddhism and higher laws. Thanks. And I know what you mean - some lessons can hurt. T...

Re: College Friends Become Disaffected Mormons

Sometimes I feel sad about it too. Like wouldn't it be wonderful if the stories really were true. Or I'll get all nostalgic thinking about my teenage years. Those were fun times in the church. Lots of friends, lots of fun. And the church kept us (mostly) out of trouble. But the reality is, the churc...

Re: Hello darlings

It's nice to have you here in our ward family. I'm in a similar situation with my parents. Openly leaving and or denying the faith would exacerbate some health issues with my TBM mom. I don't think you are compromising your integrity by continuing to go to church. You have a right to keep your belie...

Re: Disappointing Grandma

It's very important, especially to Mrs Kori, to attend this crossfit comp. However, missing church to go to the Gym would be a major red flag to grandma. It's just a sticky situation. Okay this makes more sense. Do what RR and Alas said. Let Grandma know that crossfit camp falls under "wholesome re...

Re: Standing Strong In Tough Times

((Hugs)) I'm glad things are getting better. I like you list too. I got the same email. So, I am wondering, can anyone think of other examples of how the church teaches problem solving? I am thinking of common advice and the ones I come up with are, 1. Pray---indirect. 2. Talk to your bishop---indir...

Re: Disappointing Grandma

Hmmm I'd go to church with grandma. It won't hurt you and may mean a lot to her. My grandparents are all gone but that's what I'd do ... and I dislike going as much as you do I think. I'm with No Tof on this one. Just go. Or at least just go to SM. You don't get your grandparents forever. Mine are ...

Wow! I've never heard about him before! This site states that he started the Young Men's program in the church. I wonder if that's true!

Re: The 2nd Coming, why is it hardly mentioned anymore?

I think the year 2000 also had a big although subtle impact on Mormon thinking. Yes^ I was in seminary during the late 90's, and the 2nd coming was such a "thing" then. I didn't even realize I hadn't heard anything about it for so long until I read the title of this thread. One reason the church ma...

Re: What are priesthood keys?

To me as a TBM the keys were what gave the church legitimacy amongst other religions. If we had the power to open doors to heaven then this made all of it worth the effort. Now it seems they are the keys to keep the masses locked into the cells of obedience. If the key holders say jump you jump if ...

Yep^^^

Also we are human beings no matter how much or how little clothing we have on.

And - shocker - We also exist OUTSIDE of the male lens.

Maybe you should have made a pass at him - then you'd be ex'd pretty quickly and the entire family could just disappear.
Seriously. He's coming up behind you in the bathroom. Just go with it.
  He'd have to return and report the whole story to Ward Council.

You are such a sweet friend. PPD is a b*tch. I had it with both my kids.

I agree with the NOM brethren. Great advice from RR and Kori.

Maybe send a couple shorter emails at first to kind of test the waters.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Ward Pariah! Hey that's me. FINALLY, I have a reputation. But I am female; I'm only a second class pariah. Never catch a break. Me too^^ :) Being a pariah is the best! Especially if you are a happy pariah and the other TBMs see how happy you are. I think it really messes with their minds. Al...

Re: Young Mormon Family Asks: Is There Room for Us in this Church?

We met with our Stake President and Bishop on Wednesday night. They are amazing people and we are glad to be in their stake and ward. They didn't ask us to take our videos down, and we still have our recommends and membership. They don't want us to actively try to lead others out of the church with...
