Re: 2nd Commandment

The last thing Joseph said after he was shot was "Oh Lord! my God!". No one ever seems to be bothered by that.

I think if I said that after hitting my thumb with a hammer it would turn a few heads here in Utah County.

Re: Tips on wearing garments with your bra.

This kind of reminds me of a thread I came across years ago where LDS people were discussing which sex positions are acceptable unto the Lord. Neither the church nor the scriptures have anything to say about this but some people seemed to know exactly what God wants. The final consensus was that yo...

Re: Nelson's Christmas devotional talk was disgusting

The thing that disgusted me most was he gave this nice talk about being like Jesus, then when it came to defining how to be like Jesus, it wasn’t feed the hungry, help the poor, or cloth the naked. No, it was make covenants n the temple. Sorry, but Jesus didn’t ever make those covenants in the temp...

Re: Save My Soul, brother TBM

I think this quote from the Polygamy essay on lds.org sheds some light on this: “I made a greater sacrifice than to give my life,” said Zina Huntington Jacobs, “for I never anticipated again to be looked upon as an honorable woman.” Why would Zina think she would not be looked upon as an honorable w...

Re: Resign or Get Ex’d

Bill Reel's court was last night. He did an IOT interview this morning, and said that he went through a list of problems in the church, and saw more than one High Councilman's shelf start to crack. So you could go to the court, and try to bring several out with you! Someone really messed up by allo...

Re: If you think the Church has been fully restored...

If the recent changes are a restoration from the primitive church that would mean: Home teachers were called ministers in the early church. There was a two hour block back in Christ's time. Some of the changes actually are more like the primitive church: They didn't use the name Mormon or LDS back i...

Re: No More Pageants

Nothing causes the wackiness of it all to slap you in the face like seeing it acted out by live actors. Besides, to fit the current apologetics they would need two Cumorah pageants. ;) Here is a photo from the Manti Pageant: https://photos.thechurchnews.com/file/5e63aa0031/dnews/galleryImageLarge/a...

Re: Questions to get TBMs thinking

I have a couple of other questions to add to this: Is there anything that Christ's atonement can't cover? Can it make up for the fact that someone didn't get baptized? Can it forgive someone for not being married in the temple? If the atonement has limitations is it truly infinite? Why is Satan so p...

Re: What would you expect if the church was true?

This reminded me of a Mormon Expression podcast of several years back. I still like to listen to these once in a while. Episode 281: Top 10 Things You Would Expect To See If The Church Were Actually True http://johnlarsen.org/podcast/Archive/MormonExpression281.mp3 Most of the old episodes are avail...

I can honestly give a firm No to questions 1, 3, and 4. And I not only attended a same-sex wedding last year, I paid for it since it was my daughter. I even found and hired the officiant who performed a lovely ceremony and made sure it was certified with the state. Clearly I will be in the cross ha...

Bill Reel and General Conference Rumors

Bill Reel released a new podcast yesterday where he says an inside source has told him about discussions church leadership has been having about potential changes that could happen in the near future. Some of these could be announced at General Conference. I personally think that most of these are u...

Re: Direct tithing payment question

The way I do it is I write out a check to the church for the full 10% of my gross. Then I shred it and burn it in the back yard. If God really needs the money he will figure out a way to cash it.

I am probably at about a 4.75. I think I have only been to sacrament meeting twice this year, maybe 3 times. I went to Gospel Doctrine once because my wife was called as an instructor. (I kind of feel bad that I have only been to one of her lessons, but not bad enough to get out of bed for 9:00am ch...

Re: When are they going to let Mormons drink coffee in front of each other?

I think tea will come first. Tea just doesn't seem to have the stigma that coffee does. There are lots of varieties of teas and some of them are not really teas. Herbal teas are already ok and it seems the line is kind of blurry as to which teas are ok and which are not. When I look at the label of ...

Re: Was the LDS church used as a template for this

I accidentally left the site below displayed on my computer at home and my TBM wife noticed it. She was pretty upset and I had to apologize (it really was unintentional.) Like the site in the OP, it is difficult to read it without thinking about the church. It appears the site is no longer up but I ...

Re: Soul-Crushing Sins of Omission

No matter what you are doing now it is not enough. One good example of this is when we are told to double our offerings. I have heard this a couple of times from leaders. What this says to me is no matter what you are paying now, it isn't enough and you need to pay more. There is no amount you can b...
