Re: Went to Church

I stopped going to Priesthood meeting two or three years before I stopped going to Sacrament Meeting. I think I may be been a believer when I stopped. (I honestly can't remember the exact sequence now.) When the Polygamy essay came out in 2014 I thought I would go one more time to see if they would ...

Re: I think I want to be cremated...

The last funeral I went to was for a woman in a very active LDS family. I was surprised to find out she had been cremated. This is in an upper-middle class neighborhood in Utah County. I didn't hear anyone say anything negative about it. Maybe cremation is becoming more acceptable in the church...

Re: Thoughts on tithing

I thought she had agreed to that but just yesterday I got a receipt in my email showing that she has again started overpaying tithing (probably already >$2000 extra for this year). I am not really sure how to handle this. Do you suspect there may be elements of an obsessive-compulsive disorder goin...

Re: Dumbest FairMormon quote ever? Horses and chariots

This reminded me of that BOM movie "Testaments" they used to show in the JS building, the one where Jacob's dad loses his sight during the big storms and Jacob finds his faith when a ray of light hits his eye through the trees. When Kohor hires Jacob as a sculptor and sends him to Ikea for pretty s...

Re: RFM Mormon Apologetic Lecture Series

It is interesting to listen to these about half way through, but any more and I think my head will explode. The whole mindset of apologetics just gives me a headache.

Don't forget that missionaries are now allowed to phone home once a week. Isn't that just crazy that it wasn't allowed before?

Re: Thoughts on tithing

It really makes me sick thinking about tithing. I stopped paying several years ago, but before that I paid enough tithing that I could pay off my house and probably buy a Mercedes with what is left over. But what really gets me is that my wife is still paying on her income. Actually that is fine, bu...

I think this policy reversal makes a lot more sense when considered in the context of Elder Holland’s talk: Wrong Roads.

Re: Winter is Coming in April

I binged on GOT over the free HBO weekend on xfinity. Im now up to S3 E5. cant wait for the next free weekend. Back when I had dish network I found that on free HBO weekends I could watch any episode on demand and it would remain available for up to 30 days on my DVR. In this way I could download m...

I have no idea what counts as a service mission.
I believe many of the service missionaries are basically church employees that don't get paid.

Re: General NOMfrence Sunday Afternoon!!!

I heard Okinawa Japan. The church is in decline in Japan, but maybe there are enough members at the military base there to justify it.

Re: Priesthood session NOMfrence

Can I order my coffee maker yet? I suspect that if this change was made, it would be made quietly. For example, converts would be allowed to be baptized while still drinking coffee and tea, then it might slip off the temple recommend questions somehow (perhaps bishops and stake presidents would be ...

Re: It's all just brand name marketing, isn't it?

But yes, GenCon is basically a pep rally to make sure members are still as loyal to the leaders as ever. And it works just by judging the reaction in the faithful areas online. Henry Eyring gave a talk during the priesthood session tonight basically asserting that to criticize the 'Lord's annointed...

Re: JW's Manual Seems...More Reasonable on Chastity

Masturbation is expressly ok'd (as is coppin a feel). They also say that if a couple getting close to marriage dry humps a couple times there's nothing to worry about. Wow, that is surprising to me. Although I would guess most Mormons with temple marriages did most if not all of the above without t...

Re: 2018 statistics relewsed

It's somewhat misleading -- it's that 140,000 have come off the records which could be via death as well. Yes, the 140000 comes from this: new children of record: 102102 convert baptisms: 234332 (by the way, this is the lowest since 1986 when there were 31803 missionaries) total new members: 102102...
