The problem of evil and the name of the church

Full disclosure, the only conference I engaged with this weekend was the summary page for each session on the Salt Lake Tribune. Still, it was enough to bring back the memory of what first caused me to question the church. I say question the church and not my faith, but cause questioning faith came ...

Re: Hi I'm stealthbishop

I'm not sure if they will come after me too (because my name is public) but if they do then I will use the awareness to bring light, as Sam did, to these sexually inappropriate and explicit one-on-one interviews that have damaged so many children and adults of our people. It's good to be back in NO...

Re: Russell M Nelson - God's Conditional Love

There are several in the leading quorums who have a real ax grind when it comes to the love of God. On one hand, they want to say that God loves all his children, but on the other, they are so afraid that people will think they don't have to be obedient. I think it comes down to D&C 19. Martin Harri...

Re: Sam Young to be excommunicated from Ziontology on September 9

I love that the first major media story since Nelson's style guide revelation refers to Sam as a Mormon Bishop. https://www.newsweek.com/mormon-bishop-sam-young-excommunication-sexually-explicit-children-interviews-1096856 And the only reason this is being picked up by a big news outlet is because o...

Ha ha!

How about "The Leaks of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"?
I like the idea of Mormon Leeks, a website dedicated to the gardening and cultivation of one specific vegetable for the purpose of food storage.

Well, I found my avatar from the old days. Doesn't really apply to me now as it did then. I'll work on an current intro. Thanks for the update. How long has the board been back alive? I'll reach out to Chad or give him a call. I've not seen him for about a year but I need to fix that soon. Hey. Jus...

Re: Bill Reel Gets Ultimatum from Stake President

Can we recreate the chain of command and apply some public pressure? Bill SP Area Authority Q70 ? Q12 FP Who reports to whom? Can we find their phone numbers and start leaving messages of support for Bill? I'm not 100% sure I know where he lives, but I'm pretty certain that he's in the Utah South A...

Re: Reddit Post on Joseph's Bad Math in the Book of Mormon

Polygamy: Both here and in the "afterlife", it just doesn't add up in more than one way. Unless you maintain the gender stereotype that women are more righteous, pure, simple, and therefore less accountable for certain sins. Then you can imagine yourself a heaven where women outnumber the men 20 to...

Re: Is it just me or are Returned missionaries much more intense?

Coming home is a frightening experience because it's the first time these kids get to make their own decisions. The need for normality was important for me. I just wanted something solid and secure. I wasn't able to break out of missionary mode until I had a plan and felt safe in my new life.

Re: Religious identity the same as racial, gender, and sexual identity?

Did you read about the example he gave of Mary Anne Sause? He said that her rights were violated because police wouldn't allow her to pray in her own home, as if they were going door to door to stop people from praying. What happened is they came to her house because of a noise complaint and then st...

Re: Do You Come From Royal Blood?

However, I tend to take that with a major grain of salt. When my dad researches family history, he seems to link to the most interesting possible ancestor, not the most likely. So I think there is very high likelihood of error in that family tree. That does bring up concerns with this whole amature...

Re: Decline drives change at Southern Baptist Convention

The LDS church is not at all democratic, there aren't any elections or representatives. They will opt to weather the storm. I wouldn't expect any significant changes in our lifetime. If anything, the move of other churches to less literal and more spiritual positions will probably encourage them to...

What is a "Folk Religion?" Would Mormons be in the folk or other category?
It refers to some loose collection of cultural spirituality and superstitions that aren't formalized into a religious system. Mormonism would be lumped under Christianity.

Re: Decline drives change at Southern Baptist Convention

From what i've read, the entire country has a decline in church goers. Millenials are just not buying a lot of organized "helf fire & damnation" religion, or even some of the more liberal as well. The LDS church is in that same soup. You might find this interesting. One possible explanation in decl...

Decline drives change at Southern Baptist Convention

Going more conservative and fundamentalist has proven a failed strategy for Southern Baptists. For more than a decade, the denomination has been experiencing precipitous decline by almost every metric. Baptisms are at a 70-year low, and Sunday attendance is at a 20-year low. Southern Baptist churche...

Re: What Happens when you tell the In-laws that your family is no more

A little insight I have gained that I have yet to understand: For a religion that was and is persecuted and tries to preach to the rest of the church That they should be tolerated they produce some of the most intolerant people. It's all one way. They want it, but they don't want to give it. Once t...
