Re: Whole30 Diet

Eating is far less satisfying and the first week is filled with crankiness as you get used to eating less calories than you use. But I have not gotten hungry at all, the food you can eat is very filling and there is no restriction on how much of it you can eat. I'm not expert, but this is the part ...

Re: Prediction for next two apostles

Given the make-up of the new first presidency, then I'm predicting L. Whitney Clayton and Tad Callister. There's literally no one else I think Oaks and Nelson would want to appoint more. These guys have been hatchet men for a decade, taking heat for every controversial task Nelson and Oaks gave the...

Re: New presidency same old church

Pondering on your analysis, I'm convinced the reason they didn't seize the moment is because they can't. Their decision-making structure prevents them making any such moves. They can't make any changes because they have to obtain full agreement to do so. This was a point they stressed in their pres...

Re: New First Presidency

Outside of the question over the timing, sustaining the top leaders of the church has been a meaningless gesture for a long, long time now. I'm not sure it was ever any different. Maybe with Brigham. Certainly not with Joseph. It seemed to matter to Joseph, maybe because his own position was secure...

New presidency same old church

Now that we've got all the shoutin' out of the way, we can settle back down and recognize what has become a reality as certain as succession, that this change means nothing is changing. The gentlemen now calling the shots are the same gentlemen who have already been doing so for decades. They differ...

Re: New First Presidency

So Oaks is in and Uchtdorf gets told to sit down! I guess he needed a little lesson in how to eat humble pie, eh? Nelson must have perceived Uchtdorf as not toeing the line quite as closely as he should. So much for being Mr. Nice guy. I wonder if Bednar felt a little disappointed.....I certainly h...

Re: FP news conference

This from the Trib's coverage of the conference: Nelson and Oaks noted many strong Latter-day Saints who are sticking with the faith, but also pointed to marriage as a key to retaining them. “Young men and young women are stronger when they marry [and are in a relationship] that the Lord ordains,” O...

Re: Uchtdorf is out, Oaks is in...

I wonder how Hinckley would feel about all this since he seemed to be a real champion of Utchdorf... Ohhh! that might also have something to do with it as well. I mean TSM really liked him too. So it might not have been just jealously from Uchtdorf's popularity with the members. If the rest of the ...

Re: Uchtdorf is out, Oaks is in...

It could also be the case the Uchtdorf was benched because he didn't properly ingratiate himself with Nelson while Monson was unable to function. If Uchtdorf set himself up as a competing power to Nelson, then it's no wonder that he was benched as soon as Nelson took over.

Re: Uchtdorf is out, Oaks is in...

I don't think President Uchtdorf was removed because he was too "progressive". I think that's a pipe dream - he just projects a warmer persona than the others, and darn it, he's so charismatic how can you help but like the guy? But he wasn't going to make the Church a safe place for gays and doubte...

Re: Elder Bednar's latest tithing story

I considered discussing some of this at church to challenge what's sure to be considered one of the best conferences ever. But I don't think there's any discussion to be had. If I started out with, "I liked the talk but..." as soon as I say the word but the defenses go up, ears close, and pe...

Re: Elder Bednar's latest tithing story

The "what more do you want?" guy wasn't the story that upset me. There was another story about a kid that was preparing to serve a mission. He had an unstated sin (read: he watched porn) that he didn't initially disclose. Bednar was his SP and Bednar wouldn't allow the boy to leave on his mission u...

Re: An open letter to Thayne

Nevertheless my disappointment is really the loss of some of my own journal posts from a very difficult time, and the loss of such a repository of discussions and information that saved me (and no doubt others) from doing some really, really stupid stuff, it brought me down off the edge. I know tha...

Re: Russ Nelson announces

Yesterday while with a group of TBM family engaging in a lively discussion of Monson and Nelson I killed the conversation by saying,"I think it is a bit weird to call a press conference to announce yourself as the new prophet." Mic drop.... crickets. Now on to what's on TV................ :| Maybe ...

He'll defy expectations by ordering us all back to Jackson County, Missouri. Haha! Oh man, I take back my earlier post. I want him to do this. It would be EPIC! What are the rest of us going to do with all of those abandoned temples? Behold it is he, the "one mighty and strong", 93 year old Russ Ne...

Re: New First Presidency

We do know historically that Elder Hugh B. Brown was ousted from a FP over political things--so the precedent exists for changing one counselor. Don't know about changing both--but who knows. Most of you here think there is a possibility of no changes, or perhaps Bednar getting in there. WOW,...can...

Re: New First Presidency

OK.... I have a friend in the Mo-Tab. The chatter over there is the FP will end up being Nelson, Oaks, Bednar. If that happens....HEAVEN HELP US! The chatter is also that next week after the funeral is over, they will re-org. So, it will happen pretty fast, if his info is accurate. Why would the ch...

Re: Blaming the Culture

I believe Jesus was right. By their fruits you'll know. The church's fruits are both delightful and dreadful. Yep. It's funny how people will insist - Look at these fruits! So desirable!! But don't look at these other rotten fruits over here... they have nothing to do with what we're doing. That's ...
