Sorry alas, no offence intended and no you shouldn't have to write a book. I often appreciate your posts and respect you though we have not met.

Re: Tribalism - Root of all evil?

I don't think you can call instinct evil and I don't think racism is based in fear alone, some of it is dislike and distrust.

Re: Reasons for disaffection: two perspecives

I would print this out and post it on the ward bulletin board. And put it back up every week adinfinitum. (Without being seen of course) Every adult needs to be introduced to this one sided and incorrect aspect of church culture. (I put my money were my mouth is and leafleted 250 homes with some tho...

Re: Baptism Photo Shoots

This sort of conduct is an indictment on human intelligence.

It's raising cannon fodder.

Institutionalised children being taught not not listen to their own soul.

Makes me sick.

Re: I Love Home Teaching

Good post thanks. Im not able to attend a ward because I can't lie, or teach, uphold, support lies, but I still keep a Sabbath, and still meet with friends who attend sometimes, and who believe different things. I hold the view or belief that there is a path towards an ideal, (God) and meeting with ...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

Just a few notes on 'keys' Keys is also a hermetical magical concept, which may be where Joseph picked it up, rather from the concept of Peter being a keyholder. A key is a book, talisman or spell that gives its owner power or secret knowledge. To Joseph Smith probably the masonic signs and tokens ...

Re: Allowing Men to be Men

From all we have both said here, would it be fair to say that giving God, or the idea of a 'God of goodness' a high place in our lives and minds is something we can only grow into individually? And that such growth, such becoming, is best nurtured and encouraged a little a a time, not too often. Nev...

Re: Would TBM's be better off if they weren't TBM's?

Wise and true words and observations Alas. My situation is that I just can't lie. Especially about religious things. To lie is to destroy trust. I can't do that to another human. Trust is sacred. When we destroy that, we have nothing. And I knew from a young age that I didn't know if our religion wa...

Re: Elder Callister's Linear Thinking

And this guy Callister is a leader in a church?

Is that the best he's got?

I wonder what he does for a day job?

I hope he's not an airline pilot, or anything that requires intelligence.

Re: Allowing Men to be Men

Nicely writen Alas. Thank you, and thank you for sharing such insights from a woman's experience. Not to detract from that. I would insert my understanding. You wrote that a man's top priority should be his wife and children. I agree, yet would add something. The reason I agree that a man's wife and...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

Just a few notes on 'keys' The word 'keys' as pertaining to the idea of authority appears in the D&C over 45 separate instances, in a space of 1830 to 1843. In comparison it appears 6 times in the whole Bible, ( 4000 plus years) Of those 6 times one is old testament, referring to King David and the ...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

The women get confidence when they have the 'priesthood' in the home. Feel good and affirmation of their childish hopes, and 'we are special, chosen, better than others. Never mind that the man has to fake it and copy. Badly taught. Devalued and mistaught to the point of fraud. It should be somethin...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

Finally in an attempt to name what I see as good in the LDS practice of 'priesthood' I can't. I can't name the good without the bad. The bad is, ordination. I would recommend NO laying on hands. It doesn't work for the Holy Ghost. It doesn't work for priesthood. Now some good. Priestly service or se...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

For those who find more in the 'priesthood' I can speak a little perhaps, though again this isn't really the place. The real place is only in the heart. If in one's heart one loves others and truth above self, if one trusts truth above traditions and the culture of their birth and church, hmmmm will...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

It's the end for some, not for others. Everyone has their own path, each person is learning and becoming through their unique experience. The value of each persons experience could be said to be in what usefulness it is to mankind as a whole, and in what it teaches that individual. So I don't see it...

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

If a few words I can share will be of some value. I studied this question for many years and observed every man in the church that I came into contact with. I read all of church history and the history of priestly offices in the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. I can highly recommend such a study....

Re: Allowing Men to be Men

Here is what me and a few other men i know see that the church does. You chop your testicles off and give one to your wife, the other to the president. Then you walk around with a dumb look and sad smile for the rest of your life. It's a slow death. Not for me thanks. Oh by the way, the hymns writte...
