Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

All church meetings cancelled. It's a NOM fantasy! My kids will still be at home in ties and dresses doing come follow me lessons but at least I don't have to listen to other's dogmatic rhetoric in the building. https://www.deseret.com/faith/2020/3/12/21177623/mormon-church-lds-meetings-canceled ...

Re: Houston we have a problem !

I agree with fetchface. While authenticity won't solve all your problems and in some cases will cause a few more, the mental health aspect and self respect benefits are worth it in my opinion. But everyone's circumstances are different and you have to weigh the benefits on your own scale.

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

I think this virus thing is all my fault. Sister RR “applied” for tickets to GenCon2020 and the SP “awarded” them to our family. In silent protest I prayed that conference would get cancelled so I wouldn’t have to travel to Utah. Prayers work! Phase I of cancel conference is well underway. My DD has ...

Re: Gross thought, grateful for Purell

My father is a temple worker. The temple department has asked all temple staff to stop shaking hands to reduce the chance of passing any disease. He said that the LDS cultural drive to shake hands is very difficult to stop doing. I will grant that the temple is a hotbed of elderly people with ...

Re: Gross thought, grateful for Purell

I find it amusing that the Stephen King Book "The Stand" about a superflu that wipes everyone out and a great apocalyptic struggle between good and evil survivors features a scene where survivors find a congregation of dead Mormons who died during sacrament meeting. Now I am somewhat amused that it ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

First case in Davis county. So it begins. There was actually one in Salt Lake County that was "imported" from the Diamond Princess. I guess since that one was diagnosed elsewhere, we're not listing it in Utah? Weird... This one was also on the Grand Princess Cruise ship but the cruise prior to the ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

Meanwhile the panic at the recreation center is growing with people carrying around big handfuls of disinfectant wipes, for the weight machines, people carrying their own personal bottle of hand sanitizer. People, it is not in our area yet. My husband and I are probably the most at risk and we were ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

The water supply won’t be impacted unless utility workers are quarantined at home. Even then most systems are automated through SCADA remotely. If I’m quarantined at home for a month and run out of toilet paper I’m just going to shit and then shower. Or if needed use a few old socks and do laundry. ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

Coincidentally I'm in the middle of reading Hans Rossling's book "factfullness", specifically the chapter called "fear instinct" and it is fascinating seeing this hysteria play out before our very eyes.

That would be an epic mormon legend if instead of switching the stone to being the urim and thumim, the claim was that Joseph's stone was with the plates and was the very same rock that struck goliath between the eyes! [emoji1787]

Re: Anyone Else Triggered by the Dehlin Excommunication Tapes?

I can say that high council service during disciplinary councils was a huge nail in the coffin for my testimony during my early transition years. One of note involved a guy going on business trips and habitually visiting massage parlors that had extra benefits. One really old high priest self ...

Palerider, Thanks for the OP. This is an interesting thread. He said, "I have frequent encounters with young Mormon men who have researched their history and have come to the conclusion that it is bogus and now they don't know who to talk to about it. We (DH and I) recently talked to an Army ...

Re: How do you make them understand?

For me the 19th century sermon material in Alma and other chapters combined with Richard Bushman's statements admitting to such, is the most convincing evidence for me. But as we know, everyone is triggered by different types of evidence at different times. IE how likely is it that ancient prophet ...

Re: Do most sects think they're number one?

I think people are more attracted to religions that take a more solid stand on truth claims over the more wishy washy universalistic ones. It likely feeds our tribal instincts and reward systems. One example is how fast growing islam is comparatively as well as the dying CoC/RLDS faction versus the ...
