Re: We Thank Thee o God for Trump

They sang for Democrat LBJ too. I don't think they care so long as the motab gets exposure. Trump on the otherhand might be using this as a way to get some publicity around those who so ardently opposed him initially. It's a way to show he conquered the opposing mormons and brought them to his side....

Re: LDSanswers.org

I kind of like the guy. Can you believe he has 10 kids? You can see his entrepreneurial spirit shine through his bio. He even has his own imdb page that says the exact same thing as his bio on LDSanswers. In a way I think he represents the sentimental nostalgic side of the church I used to long for...

Re: Confused About How DW Interpreted "Spiritual" SM Story

This is f-ed up even if I put my TBM hat back on. It's like: "Well, when God sent his only begotten Son to be tortured and die for my sins I was kind of like ...meh... But then He sent me chocolate and I was like oh He really does love me!!!!!"   We need a verse for the hymn, "I ...

Re: Because He Couldn't Walk

This hits home for me. A good part of what caused my faith crisis was a family member who suffered a spinal cord injury a few years ago becoming quadriplegic. I suffered a large existential crisis during a priesthood blessing for this individual when I realized the promises were empty and he would n...

Oh my, commercialized apologetics on steroids

Oh boy! Here we go with the commercialized apologetics on steroids again. It seems folks like Meldrum keep spawning. And while they're at it, might as well make a buck or two of their poor indoctrinated children. http://josephsmithacademy.org/store/index.php/doctrine/prophet-joseph-more-than-we-know...

Re: Radio Free Mormon Podcast

I'm really enjoying eposode 3 about the intentional cover-up of the 1832 account. One thing that bolsters the evidence that the story was evolving is the progression of the god-head doctrine from the Book of Mormon to the later revelations and scriptures. Once we know about the 1832 account, everyth...

Re: Tithing

It's a simple process. You need to have a bank or credit union that can do online billpay (which should be everybody these days). You email donations@ldschurch.org and request instructions to setup billpay with your specific bank. They will email the instructions, you setup the billpay on your banks...

Maybe it's not the poor kids fault!

At a Christmas gathering with in-laws. The discussion comes up about a recent influx of missionaries coming home early. One brother in law mentions the stake pres in his stake being concerned over 3 in a row coming home early. Other BIL says they have had 4 come home early. All manner of theories ar...

Re: Taking off the garment

With a TBM wife, I feel I would be committing the ultimate disrespect to her and causing her emotional pain in abandoning the garment completely. I continue to gird my loins. A few things about my habits have changed though. I don't feel bad taking them off for any form of recreation even all day ac...

Re: a few new leaks on reddit

I have been underwhelmed by the leaks lately. It seems the biggest armor the church has against criticism is being completely boring and having multiple layers of beauracracy. What a good leak needs is scandal of epic proportions.

Re: Long Time Lurker Checking In

Welcome! Sounds like you have a healthy perspective on things and your level of commitment is working well for you. I agree with your assessment of rural community living regarding the church. I have a good friend in a similar situation. Becoming a pariah there has real consequences.

I find it odd that all church historians are now lawyers. Just ask assistant Church Historian Richard Turley. He will tell you all about how he gave up his lucrative law career to make meager wages working for the COB and selling books.

Re: What is the priesthood anyway?

I have a few definitions: 1. Stolen intellectual property from Alexander Crawford in the reformed baptist movement 1827. "In 1827, Crawford had delineated the existence of three distinct priesthoods: a patriarchal priesthood (which he also called a priesthood after the “order of Melchisedec”), an Aa...

Re: Leah Remini documentary

So what would it take for there be a Mormon Leah Remini? I know as far as the fame part goes, this would have to be an Osmond or maybe a high profile Romney or maybe a Marriott heir (if there is such). But is Mormonism wacko enough to deserve it's own expose'? Certainly the history could be exposed...
