Re: Bizzare Mormon Dr. replaces husbands' seed with his own

I see an RFM podcast in your future Dr Mortimer! Diving deeper into the 2nd anointing and "Called by Inspiration/God" Edit/Add: What if those affected and those in the community demanded the church excommunicate this guy? It would force the church to go against it's own "secret" doctrine! Might be a...

Re: Alcohol Content of Beer in Utah vs Walmart

For me this whole thing was just a bunch of LDS Corp manipulating the state government bull$hit. When you go out of state and see how much of a non-issue this is, it makes Utah's governance look like a joke! It's really about control and money, and pretend protection of the public so TSCC can keep u...

Re: This American Life episode - Sexual Questions in Bishops' Youth Interviews

Yes, a most excellent program! It made me realize many of the messed up aspects of my relationships and sex because of how much guilt I had with all of that crap over the years, from a kid all the way through later adult life. Also, be sure to listen to the follow up program on Radio West on this to...

Re: Loyal Christian's hanging onto mormonism

When I determined the mormon truth claims were false I wanted to go this direction of "just Christian"; so I started getting more into the Bible NT, studying Jesus from a non-mormon POV. But then I began to wonder about the credibility and historicity of the bible or any other scripture/religion. Af...

Re: New message about choosing to believe

“God can take the biggest train wrecks in our lives, and He can make something beautiful out of them.” I hate placating statements like this. Sure, even a belief in God as a placebo can help you turn your situation around if you get after it. But I can say from experience that no amount of blessing...

Re: Lunch with my apostate Dad

Hmmmm... tell me more about, your mother? JK! His perspective on this is certainly puzzling, this double standard he seems to have. My guess would be that he's worried about losing his relationship with his grandkids and he's telling you to stick with it (at the cost of your own sanity) in order to ...

Joe Rogan just recently had Richard Dawkins on his podcasts and they have a very fascinating conversation about it.
Well now, that podcast played directly into my POV! Thanks for mentioning it!

Re: Fear as motivating conservative values

Much of what you see going on politically in the U.S. right now is motivated by fear. Those fears are not always named, spoken, or articulated, but without getting too political I will just say I am frankly horrified by what I see people willing to tolerate because they think their fears are being ...

Re: Is #DezNat a Thing? Am I living under a rock?

“A man who has wisdom to control one wife and five children can control ten wives and one hundred children; then he can control a town, a city, a state, a nation, a kingdom, or the whole world.” — Brigham Young #DezNat The eternal progression of Mormonism. And yet, they are still less than a half o...

Re: Is #DezNat a Thing? Am I living under a rock?

Oh Jebuz H! Ya know, it doesn't really surprise me if it is real. After reading the book "Under the Banner of Heaven" about all the polygamist groups and extreme fundamentalists that have broken off TSCC over the years, it's obvious that the god chosen super specialness narrative plays in the heads ...

Re: Baby steps!

I get it, and you do have a fair point. But, if you are open to other possibilities, which I feel like if someone is on this board they are at least open to the fact that things might not be what they seem, I think it is a pretty healthy time to try out that epistemological method with some new att...

Re: Baby steps!

I had lots of examples of unanswered worthy prayers, as did my DW. At the beginning of my faith crisis I ran an experiment for myself for several months, as far as trying life without the Christian god and Satan. No more angel and devil on the shoulders, just life. Boy howdy was life so much better ...

Re: The Book of Mormon: Written for Who's Day?

You can apply things like "secret combinations" to a myriad of modern organizations but in reality it was ironically all about the 1820's anti-masonry movement. To further add to the irony of the BOMs "secret combinations", why the hell was the temple ceremony all structured on the masons and we us...

Re: The Cosmological Conundrum

First God was on a mountain, but then people climbed all of the mountains. Then he was above the clouds, but people invented flying machines. Then he was in space above the earth, but then we made telescopes, satellites and deep space instruments. God is outside of space-time because we pushed him ...

Re: The Cosmological Conundrum

Traditional Mormonism is actually pretty bad at answering the question of existence when you think about it. If our God is our link to a chain of divine beings that have gone through mortality and developed the characteristics necessary for godhood, then what created the universe in which this all ...

Re: The Cosmological Conundrum

All this makes me rather small and insignificant to say I know what is and is not reality. I tend to be rooted in what I can perceive. Fortunately what we can perceive is quite a lot if we are willing to spend a night under the stars. Maybe the simple answer is "I Am God." If all things are manifes...

I think PBS also did a series or at least one program that was based on this book? It was also very kind to the church, skipped over lots of the controversial stuff. Makes me wonder if they helped finance it or provided a significant donation.
