Re: The sacrament and baptism

This depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. Many here wanted somewhere to land, post LDS church faith crisis. If you keep applying critical thinking to all other religions, to the old and new testaments and so on, you quickly conclude that all religions were inventions of tribalism....

Looks as though someone needs to update the all-knowing wiki with the JHCOB initialism.

Re: Life gets better

Awesome news TP! I hope you can keep building your trust with her outside TSCC. I'd recommend time out in nature with your DW; preferably on a Sunday once in a while, just to further strengthen the relationship with her. That foundation will hopefully be strong enough for her to leave the church beh...

Of course it's true! Just like the Book of ReubenHighlander.
Which is a book yet to be written, making it even more profound and special!

The Book of Hagoth is True!

I was digging around YouTube, trying to track down a video I once watched that had different spiritual witnesses from people of different faiths. I came across this one where in the brother of a TBM received a witness that the Book of Hagoth was true. Since Hagoth is such an iconic NOMite, I couldn'...

Re: “God given” talents?

Well...in my case, universe given talents and therefore evolution and genetics. Since I stopped attributing so much of my life to some magical flying spaghetti monster I don't consider myself any more special than other homo sapiens, but luck and good fortune has provided a pretty awesome existence ...

Re: Will I fall off the planet?

People who literally believed that the earth was flat didn't want to hear a single word about the earth being round. They didn't want to drift too far from their comfort zone because they feared they might fall off the planet and never be seen again. Anyone who went exploring never came back to the...

Re: Went to Church

I recently attended a TBM funeral in a ward house. May as well have been a sacrament meeting. I really hated hearing the words "God protects our children." I can't even remember the context because all I could think about were all those poor kids (me included growing up) who continue to get messed u...

Re: Monumental stupidity to faith promoting story

Ug. So frustrating, compounded by the faith spin they put on it. If one or both of them had not made back it would have been "It was their time." or "God had a mission for them on the other side." Not, "Yes the dumbasses drove their crappy little car into the middle of fricking WY and died." Now I'v...

Re: Morrissey and the Church

For me I'll always love the early Smith's content (not Lucy and her brood!). I served in Manchester 83-85 and the Smith's are part of my love for that city. Morrissey I have not followed much post Smith's. It's hard for me to fault the guy for how he was then vs. now; I would have hoped he would hav...

Re: Happiness in Sacrament Meeting

I think the keywords in her talk are "stop thinking". Also, TSCC wants TBMs preoccupied with thinking about all the things to keep them running on the gerbil wheel, then telling them they can never do enough or have not done enough. Guilt, fear, true happiness as long as you don't bitch about it!

Did Nephi wax his chest? I’m pretty sure most Arabs have a lot of chest hair. Good point! Now that I look at this, maybe it's Joseph in Egypt? That would explain all the bling. Did Egyptians manscape? And... Why is "Nephi" the only half-naked person in the "artwork?" Is he getting ready for an MMA ...

Re: thinkers

There are those talks by Packard and others where they tell church scholars and leaders they need to be selective in what truths they teach because not all truths are good for the student's faith. There are examples of dishonest behavior or lying for the Lord, like the removal of the first version o...

Re: Still no thread on President Oak’s anti-LGBT bigotry?

On the way to work this morning I heard a bit on NPR that went into the history as to how conservative Christians began to take over the republican party and came to support anti-abortion legislation where as before they deemed it a Catholic problem. In a nutshell, abortion was used as a polarizing ...

Nice work oh captain my Captain! In celebration, I'm posting this gospel or perhaps "former" gospel doctrine art. I'm guessing that's Nephi's nipple? Not sure what the story is behind this one but I saw it in the hallway of an O-town ward house today at a TBM funeral. Maybe we can use it as a meme c...

Re: The Artful Dodger of Mormon Apologetics

Wow! He is one sad sorry little apologetic man if he thinks that listing a few obscure sources mentioning the multiple FVs gives him and TSCC a free pass to lie to it's general membership! Also, why do I find his style and manner of writing so annoying? It just wreaks of BS. Ask him what the weather...

Out of ALL of the content on the planet and you chose to watch that? Maybe it’s a set up for the next “adjustment” RMN is going to unleash? Re: Help with outing myself?

So my DW and I are in our 50s, youngest kid is 18; it was easier for us to make the exit than many here on NOM. We had been non-attending for a couple years before DW's mom found out or she told her. She took it pretty well because MIL is a full on TBM who attends the temple 2-3 times per week. Now ...
