Re: Ed Smart comes out as gay
NOTHING is private about Facebook. You can add to that list twitter, Instagram and any other of those big social media sites. If you are well known or infamous, anything you post can come back and bite you. And in this case it came back to bite Ed Smart. From the way I see it this situation is messe...

Re: Would the church ever change the name of BYU...?
The name is a national well known brand at this point. And there is nothing "negative" about the name from an outsiders perspective, except for the fact that it's linked to the LDS church.
What BYU should REALLY do is look into changing their ridiculous honor code.

Re: Maybe it’d be nice if everyone posted a very short intro who they are
Born and raised Mormon. I always making decisions based on doing the "right" thing and what my church leaders said would be the "righteous and smart thing to do." Because after all you will be blessed financially and be destitute otherwise...right? Well the exact opposite happened to me and I ended ...

Re: New member of the group
Hey everyone, I'm M, nice to meet everyone. I finally joined up because I needed some people to talk to, who understand what it's like leaving the Church. I'm a 30-year old single guy, finishing an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I grew up a member of the Church and really, wholeheartedly belie...

OK...I did misquote...but I found a direct reference. This experience is mentioned in an audio recording by Dr. John Lewis Lund in "The Myth we Call Perfection".....Covenant Communications Inc, 2003. I've since seen Dr. Lund has a bit of a racket going with stolen things in Israel. I think later in...

Re: Did anyone here get a divorce over all of this?
The LDS influence was complicit in my divorce. I was in way too long,...and the church influenced that through fear, not through any enlightened doctrines. Ditto! I could go into all the dirty details of mine but in the end the details don't matter. Suffice it to say I should have divorced within t...

TBM: Isn't the church welfare program great! We do so much to help the poor and needy just like it's taught by Christ in the Bible. 007: Did you hear about Mary? She's homeless and there are 5 other people who are without a home that live in the ward also. TBM: Ohh I "heard" about Mary. *whispers* T...

I'm craving french fries now! And lesbian grown organic foods... Then one day you realise that all you have been doing for years and years is just sitting there watching; mute, dissatisfied and hungry every time you go to McDonald’s and it’s no longer enough. You want to be in restaurants and kitch...

(emphasis added)Q. How can a bishop help counsel a couple whose husband is entering a realm of agnosticism? A. Elder Perry: That is a real challenge and thank goodness you are a judge in Israel. This is the most insidious thing that could ever happen. What about child abuse? Divorce never solves an...

Stalled?? Jimmer is a friggin god in China! You know, the market that Hollywood desperately tries to woo and the LDS leadership probably salivates over? This is all part of God's plan no doubt to introduce the restored gospel to billions. ;) Personally I think things would've worked out differently...

I was listening to Lindsay Hansen Park's interview about the Snufferites on RadioWest last week and she mentioned a story about a vision seen at the dedication of the Kirtland temple. I had to see it in print and found it in The Oxford Handbook of Mormonism , edited by Terryl Givens, Chapter 32 by ...

Re: Any real experiences with blessings?
How 'bout we take "experience" and any sort of bias out of the question, and just look at reality: If "priesthood blessings" actually worked there would be significantly less illness and death from said illness in areas with a high population of believing LDS folk. Statistics show that this is not ...

Glad you made it to the other side ok Rebel. However the fact that your wife threatened divorce again is troubling. Personally I wouldn't ignore it, since there is a part of her that feels it is the answer. It's time for a heart to heart talk to see where she really stands. Make it clear of your int...

I've read through some of the comments on the ldsliving website and also on a page posted by the kid who was abandoned.. Of course they are mostly of the variety you would expect. Such as "There are worse places to be abandoned," etc. etc. However one comment that stuck with that was posted on a Fac...

My version of the quote as inspired by Rob4hope: The Real Todd Christifferson wrote: Sometimes those who raise a warning voice within the church are dismissed as judgmental. Paradoxically, however, those who claim forgiveness is available to all , are the ones who most harshly criticize people who d...

I just noticed in the footnotes of the Wikipedia article on John Willard Young it refers to a Dialog Article from Winter of 2002 by Todd Compton titled "John Willard Young, Brigham Young, and the Development of Presidential Succession in the LDS Church". I have not read the whole thing yet but it l...

Keep us posted Palm Springs !!! Indeed! So yes I finally decided to take my name off the records. What finally led me to this is because of some weird dreams about the church due to the trauma I have suffered. Waking up thinking "How can I even be associated with this church?," has been a constant ...
