Re: Recognized National Leader?

The Church just finished arguing in front of the Arizona Supreme Court that they do not have to report child sexual abuse. The Arizona Supreme Court agreed. So just call Kirton McConkie and they will help bishops cover up the abuse. The national leader in "hide the crime and overall deceptiveness"....

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?

In the 19th Century, there was a property dispute over lands at Independence, Missouri. During the course of the trial, the LDS Church submitted both affidavits and testimony from the polygamous wives of Joseph, who testified they were wives both in name and deed. So much for Nancy Winchester and H...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?

If there was one girl, you might be able to say that and not be just defending the indefensible, but there is a clear pattern. What if apologists were to argue that God wanted Joseph as a prophet because of his uncontrolled lechery? There is always that percentile that will throw away all critical ...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?

Don't get me wrong I'm not dismissing anyone's point of view, but I don't think there is enough evidence to be able to make a determination one way or the other. There was a lot of crap said about the Mormons and Joseph Smith in particular. How true all of it is in reality is something above my pay...

Re: Technology- has it ruined music?

I've been reading a book about Steely Dan and it got me thinking about music since the 1960's. For me it has steadily been going downhill. Now this is a common reaction. People typically (My Mom and Dad- 1940's, and my Grandmas- 1920's are examples) love the music they grew up with, and I gr...

Re: Don't care anymore

Great thread as I've been gone for a long time also. For the most part I don't care much about the Church also. Although as time has gone by, I've realized my anger was (for the most part) not against the church, but against certain individuals within the Church. Still don't believe it's the one tru...

Re: Could Mormons Spot the Anti-Christ?

Great Post SaidNobody. The fact that everyone is screaming at the tops of their lungs "Orange Bad Man" is the big clue that he is not the anti-christ. Nor is he even that bad of a guy. May I also submit that all the fervor is really to distract everyone's attention away from something or someone muc...

Re: Senator Mike Lee: Trump's another Captain Moroni!

Kevin Christiansen from MD&D put it well: Having read the Book of Mormon, and Nibley's essay on Freeman and Kingman in the Book of Mormon, I missed the parts of the story where Captain Moroni paid off mistresses, separated children from refugee parents as deterrent, hired corrupt and ignorant peopl...

Welcome Nlloydj, like others have already said, I can also sympathize with what you are going through at the moment. As you go through this journey, realize that it takes time. You are in no hurry. However, as you continue to question and learn things, take time to substantiate your mental health an...

Re: A one-liner that captures your disaffection

Now that the thread has been bumped. I've heard and made up lots of one-liners over the years, some "funny," some "polite" so as to not hurt believers feelings; But honestly, at this point, I hope with most folks I can just cut to the chase and say: The church is not true. Or you could have just sa...

Re: Donald Trump A Most Noble President

Whether you like him or not, you have to have amazingly strong staying power and thick skin to weather the media backlash and storm that he has endured. And again whether you agree with what he says or not, he handles those daily press conferences better than the media themselves.

Re: What will church look like...after Covid-19

I believe church attendance is going to be way down until at least Jan 2021. Still attendance numbers will take years to recover fully, if ever. So you will definitely see a push to get people back out to meetings. On the flip side, I think the church is going to wait until people feel the crisis is...

Re: Culture of Fake Friends

And that, my friends, is one thing Mormonism has taught us - other people are a means to an end. You don't serve people because you love them, you serve them because you are supposed to and God wants you to and you'd better if you want to make it to the tippity top of the Celestial Kingdom. Needles...

NOTHING is private about Facebook. You can add to that list twitter, Instagram and any other of those big social media sites. If you are well known or infamous, anything you post can come back and bite you. And in this case it came back to bite Ed Smart. From the way I see it this situation is messe...

Re: Would the church ever change the name of BYU...?

The name is a national well known brand at this point. And there is nothing "negative" about the name from an outsiders perspective, except for the fact that it's linked to the LDS church.

What BYU should REALLY do is look into changing their ridiculous honor code.

Born and raised Mormon. I always making decisions based on doing the "right" thing and what my church leaders said would be the "righteous and smart thing to do." Because after all you will be blessed financially and be destitute otherwise...right? Well the exact opposite happened to me and I ended ...

Hey everyone, I'm M, nice to meet everyone. I finally joined up because I needed some people to talk to, who understand what it's like leaving the Church. I'm a 30-year old single guy, finishing an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I grew up a member of the Church and really, wholeheartedly belie...
