Re: Voted off the island

Seems similar to how getting pushed out of the church feeds its persecution narratives, which of course cast the church as the beleaguered hero. Interesting, isn't it? I note that this whole scenario involves everyone falling right in line with what I would expect to happen in a dysfunctional famil...

Voted off the island

Tonight I was uninvited to Spouseman's reunion. Apparently, I'm depressing people, and there is concern that I might make a scene. This because I'm not ok with brushing lewdness with children under the rug. Also they don't like that I told another victim to go to the police like I did about what hap...

Re: Soul-Crushing Sins of Omission

I think sins of omission are real. Like people neglecting to tell people about a predator... that's a biggie with some responsibility. Missing church and the lot? No. I think my kids would be less anxious had I had my faith crisis a decade sooner.

Re: I’m having a difficult time right now

I am sorry, this sounds paralyzingly stressful. I am glad he's a rare exception, but I can hear the worry in your words. So many parts of this post resonate with me, though my current stress is different, the faith transition being confounded by it, the extended family making it all about them... pe...

He did defend me on the phone with them, and is 100% with me that children will not be around pedo. I can empathize with the fact that he has a different history with his mother than I do-- he's the golden child and she's always been awful to me. Nevertheless, I will not be pressured into maintaini...

Re: Ongoing revelations of church child abuse coverups

We met with my ILs a few days ago and had what I felt was a constructive discussion, inching toward some sort of shared perspective. We had agreed to participate partially in the reunion, they had agreed to dis-invite pedo. Then today they called my Spouseman and said some terrible things about me,...

Re: A Robust Sexual Ethic

There were also temples to the fertility goddess, that you see in the Bible, where men would pay tribute to the goddess and then “worship” by having sex with a priestess. This was how Tamar got her father in law to give her a child, she pretended to be a temple priestess and took his tribute had se...

Re: A Robust Sexual Ethic

Wouldn't support also be an issue? Aren't most people generally happy to support their own children? But most show little interest in supporting someone else's. From what I've read in the past, in matrilineal, egalitarian societies, men provided support to their grandchildren and sister's children ...

Re: A Robust Sexual Ethic

Questions of parentage are only an issue if property and authority are inherited along patriarchal lines. Matrilineal systems work fine without evidence of paternity. Merlin Stone discussed this in her When God Was a Woman. If remove the premise that by divine right, men preside over and or own wom...

Re: A Robust Sexual Ethic

The question for me is how shall we live? I think it was Plato who posed the question, "How shall we order ourselves?" There are also the issues of paternity and "possession" when it comes to children and spouses. I think (from an evolutionary point of view) marriage was developed to alleviate the ...

Re: Who was the last prophet and apostle that was plyg?

I would concur that Heber J Grant was the last prophet to actually practice polygamy by having three living wives. But let's not forget that the current president of the corporation is a "spiritual" polygamist and is sealed to two women. As was Howard W. Hunter. So there's been a couple since Grant...

Re: Shinehah=Sun

The Adamic language, as revealed by Joseph Smith is pretty goofy too: God = Ahman The Son of God = The Son Ahman Man = Sons Ahman Angels = Ahman Angls-men (or Anglo-men) God's language sure has a lot of overlap with Joseph Smith's language. I don't know much about this, but there was an anglo-centr...

Ok, I just cannot with this. Anyone remember being a kid and speaking "Spanish" by adding "o" or "a" to the end of regular words, throw in a few Spanish words you know here and there, and voila! You now speak Spanish! This is how JS translated "Adamic". Sun is shiney, I know!! Shine-HAH! Adamic sun ...

...it's not going to happen quickly because trust must be earned, and it won't be happening at all if my ILs cannot see the reality of the situation. +1 The recidivism rate (tendency of a criminal to reoffend) is very high among child molesters, like around 90%. Only an idiot would invite them to a...

Re: Ongoing revelations of church child abuse coverups

Love this, thanks for taking the time to put down these thoughts. You're welcome Thoughtful. This happens to be one of my big pet peeves. :x Every time I hear of some idiot Bishop or family member telling a wife whose husband just got caught cheating on her, abusing the kids, beating on her, molest...
