Re: MLK Jr.
I'm not sure if it is worth doing, but if change were the goal then I think more aggressive tactics are required. MLK Jr's non-violent protests weren't violent, but they were disruptive and in-your-face. I don't have a grand plan or even details on what I think should be changed, these were just so...

Re: Writer excommunicated during ‘September Six’ purge loses her bid to rejoin the LDS Church
This is powerful - our old friend Robert Kirby tells us exactly what kind of person for whom the First Presidency refused rebaptism and refused to restore her temple sealing with her departed husband: https://www.sltrib.com/opinion/kirby/2019/09/08/robert-kirby-jesus-lavina/ Thanks for sharing. His...

Re: Unusual article for KSL
Another follow up article from coach Kim that seems aimed towards the behavior of the predominant culture in Utah: https://www.ksl.com/article/46634475/coach-kim-dont-let-religion-define-other-people The comments are interesting to see how people interpret the article. A couple of those Mormons are...

Re: Shift in direction of church giveaways
Free Bibles ain't nothin' here in the south. Churches around here are holding back to school bashes with jupiter jumps and carnival games and backpacks full of school supplies- and that pales in comparison to the fall festivals they put on with food and games, then the free Thanksgiving turkeys, and...

Whats good on netflix?
The choices are getting more overwhelming. Not as many blockbuster movies, but lots of new series. I don't get to binge too much, but with fall/winter coming, our schedule seems to slow down. I finally gave in and let my tween/teen kids watch Stranger Things because all of their friends have seen it...

Re: Evangelical blog article on LDS temple in Haiti
Wow- if only this article could get more publicity. The church needs to be called out for their flagrant worship of money and luxury, instead of humble service to people in dire need of basic necessities.

Re: Conditioned to fear the change
I love this part: Now that I'm six years past my broken shelf, now that I've walked with my spouse through those moments of terror, we would never go back to where we were. I have less belief in God, and yet more faith that my actions and beliefs are moral and worthy; I am actually more morally clea...

A win for satan!
I am so freaking happy today! We are still semi- active, attending once a month or less... My daughter is on the middle school academic team (competes in the state academic bowl). Her team was practicing yesterday and one of the questions was "Who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Sai...

Re: Bishopric -> EQP: And I feel.... numb.
And I also agree with NBI: Do it on your terms. Also: Delegate, delegate, delegate... And then: Delegate some more. This was going to be my advice- I was in YW presidency back in the day when I was starting to fall away. I learned to just delegate everything. If I didn't want to go to an activity, ...

Re: Shared The Myth of the Unrighteous Parent with DW
Your wife's response is similar to my husbands. My husband grew up in a part-member home. Mom was full in, Dad was anti. So for me to break the news to him that I was out was really heartbreaking for him. He grew up being told that he was a lost soul, not sealed to anyone. And then I take away his l...

Re: Ed Smart comes out as gay
I think this practice of gay men marrying straight women played big role in my questioning. I remember seeing two separate couples on my mission (90's) in this very situation and feeling so torn for them. I could see that each spouse was equally miserable and yet they were struggling to live the gos...

Been there- with being physically ill, constant upset stomach, and sleepless nights. I lived in constant fear once I started to come out to my family. My mental health was already failing because I could no longer support the narrative and play along at church, but then it was worsened by the family...

Just curious for those that feel that they are moving on (including OP), do you still attend on a regular basis? For myself, I would love to move on but my wife enjoys attending and I don't see her wanting to stop anytime soon. I'd love to move on and be done because I came to my conclusion several...

I no longer have contact with a toxic and abusive sibling. I told him to never call me again and blocked his number. I told my family to never speak of him again around me. It was difficult at first, other family members would bring up gossip or complain about something related to the sibling and I ...

Re: Maybe it’d be nice if everyone posted a very short intro who they are
My shelf crashed in 2011 after a relative had her temple sealing to a deceased husband broken so she can be sealed to her 3rd husband. I was a little too close to the situation and her decision really hurt. All at once it came crashing down when I realized it is all made up- the rules are arbitrary....

Back from SLC
Just returned from a family trip to Utah. Not enough time in the day to accomplish everything on our to-do list but had a great time. Observations: Surprised that we had very little contact from missionaries on Temple Square- there just didn't seem to be as many around the campus. Even more surprise...
