Re: Mormon Bishop Accuses LDS Church Of Atrocities

This is amazing, Stealth! This past Sunday one of the speakers in our ward talks about Helmuth Hübener ( wiki ) The 17 year old church member who spoke out against Nazis before WW2. President Grant had visited Germany a few years earlier and told the church members there to get along with the Nazi p...

Seven Months Down. 53 To Go.

I've been putting this off. The last episode detailing the ordeals of being a non-believing bishop was in early September. Our bishopric hit the 6 month mark in mid October, and here we are now in December. So I guess I've really got 7 1/2 months down. That's so much easier! /s Youth Activities Thes...

Re: Why are temples going Moroni-less ?

 @ Red's list. Regarding #10 - We have been informed that a member of the 12 will be visiting our area, but that no general membership meetings are planned. He'll have only one meeting with Stake presidencies, bishops (not bishoprics, just bishops), and their district/branch counterparts. The l...

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

Thanks all for the reviews and comments. I was planning to watch this yesterday while DW was away at a stake women's conference. But our household suffered a small meltdown early yesterday afternoon which left us doing laundry into the wee hours of the morning (its a long story) and I missed it. I'l...

My friends! These are great answers. I'll have to see if I can figure out a good way to phrase them to make them seem at least sincere. :)

What to ask the professor...

A friend who currently teaches religion/history at BYU has offered to do a fireside in our ward. He suggested something on the old testament to prepare for the proof texting of next year's come follow me course.

What are some alternative topics I should ask him to speak on?

Re: When else has the prophet been deceived?

Essentially they said they do sustain him but think that God is purposely "trying his people" by telling the prophet to tell us to do something we shouldn't obey, and that is the test. To see if we will do what is right even if we're told to do wrong by the prophet. I just realized this is the big ...

Re: NOMference Sunday afternoon Fall 2021

Graey, Did your yellow jacks have a "Mormon Helping Hands" logo on it? They surely did. One lady who we helped out asked which church we were from. One of the people on our team rattled off the full name, to which the little old lady leaned closer, turned her ear and loudly asked "What!?" The guy r...

Re: NOMference Sunday afternoon Fall 2021

Sorry I missed everything, my friends!

Rather than watch even I've minute of GC I decided to don my yellow jacket and go to Louisiana to take part in some of the very little good the church actually does by helping with hurricane Ida cleanup.

Re: When else has the prophet been deceived?

I'd like to hear about the "Earth Crystal." I wonder how the second interview went? Do they still require an interview from the Stake Presidency to get the recommend? This person spends all of church (and likely the rest of their 24/7 life) firmly holding this white crystal, which is the size of a ...

Re: When else has the prophet been deceived?

I had an temple recommend interview with a member of our ward the other day. When I asked the question "Do you sustain the president of the COJCOLDS as prophet, seer, and revelator and as the only person on earth who is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys?" They paused for a minute, hesitated...

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU

That's because serving your fellow man out of the goodness of your heart, without being assigned to do so, only brings you closer to God. Being nagged on to constantly watch a movie and do the handshake thing supposedly helps someone in another world but in reality only recommits you to the organiz...

Thanks bishop, I prayed and the Fruit Guys answered my prayers. That's all well and good, Red, but if they didn't also appear in Elder Oaks' dream you can be assured that you're listening to the wrong ghost. I think there's a joke in here somewhere the fruity men of Elder Oaks' dreams, but I just c...

Re: Five Months Down. 54 To Go.

I'm always interested in these updates. It sounds like a pretty tough slog, at least at the moment. Your last comment, about how much the job can take and take, triggered a memory. I was good friends with both the wife and the adult daughter of the man who was bishop during my last active years. Al...

Re: Five Months Down. 54 To Go.

It seems like the church lesson/activity plans are always asking for the impossible from the teachers and the students, especially the kids and youth. They expect little kids to ponder and teenagers to willingly answer stupid thought-ending questions. And now with the new youth program they place a...

Re: Five Months Down. 54 To Go.

I feel for you. I was called as the BP for my ward almost 14 years ago. It's rough. Glad you're at NOM. I got a lot of support from here. Thanks! I had to go back and read your intro on NOM 2.0. Its really cool that you were one of the ones to sign Sam's apology statement. I'm honored to have a leg...
