Re: Saturday evening General Conference is canceled

The change is being made because all sessions of general conference are now available to anyone who desires to watch or listen, according to the Newsroom release. What he$$ does this mean? Does it mean that since our super secret priesthood meeting that Kate Kelly wanted women to have access to.......

Re: Witness film. Got your tickets?

Here is a small scene from the movie involving Fanny Alger (the girl from the barn) and the Kirtland Safety Society Anti-Bank. Don't look for historical accuracy or good acting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reuwmhC2i4o Awww man. I was going to look for the historical inaccuracy and bad acting. B...

Re: One Month Down. 59 To Go.

Thanks, everyone. Only just over one month in and this is has been pretty eye opening. Some times I do questions if I can make it work full term, other days, it isn't so bad. It has led to a lot of conversations with my wife. It seems like she has started to understand that a lot of people are in mi...

One Month Down. 59 To Go.

tl;dr - Being a bishop is weird. Scheduling Holy crap Sundays are busy! I thought they were bad as a counselor, but man. It is go-go-go from 7:30am to 6:30pm and I sometimes have more phone calls after that. Counselors . One of them wants to be bishop. He lives to climb the church hierarchy, and I t...

Re: An alternate perspective on marriage

Hi Zeezrom, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It is often hard in the moment to recognize that things could get worse, and if they do, its equally hard to remember that they will also likely get better. I'm happy to hear that you've found a good place after all your years. I look forwar...

Re: What are the problems with the word Mormon

Once President Nelson more closely translated the word Mormon, he realized the previous translation from Adamic was not quite right. Mor did indeed represent more as Joseph Smith had alledged, but mon translated to devil . As to why the book was titled Book of More Devil is anyone's guess. Hope tha...

Re: Should I get a Priesthood blessing?

First, I am sorry to hear about your vision. I sincerely hope that you do fully recover as soon as possible! Regarding the priesthood blessing, I would try to hear it as your daughter saying she loves you and cares for you and wants to help you, and respond as though that's what she said. Something ...

Re: 'Do you think I could ever be happy outside of the church?'

We would have to clarify that the 90 day challenge would be centered around giving up the organizational aspect of the Mormon church and not God. Any TBM confident in their belief in God should be able to continue that relationship. If they can’t then the 90 challenge has exposed where their true b...

Re: 'Do you think I could ever be happy outside of the church?'

It sounds like it’s time to negotiate a joint sabbatical or 90 day No Mo challenge. Ask her to give you a 90 day test run to see if she CAN be happy outside of the church. After 90 days, if she isn’t happy then she can return. But it has to be 90 days out. No garments, no attendance, no BoM reading...

Re: Forced Turning Point

Thanks for the updates! May I suggest you skip the painting and go with a quilt or something like minded from the relief society? Or go with a cheap cork board and pin up drawings from the primary kids? Or a white board with YM/YW planned activity notes and timelines? I really like this idea. Cards...

This might help your parishioners express their authentic feelings:
I love it! I may also occasionally need to put the sound-proofing of the bishop's office to the test.

I'll make you a quilt. I've made a few wall hangings. The first could be called, "The Godhead."
I'm late getting back tot his, but those are amazing hmb! I agree with Wonderment, you've got real talent.

As for media fasts... how else are we supposed to rehearse our doubts with other doubters? Should we do it in Sunday School instead?

Re: The Lords Battalion

Nonetheless, I think pulling RR in to fix some of the big church problems would provide leaders a new perspective. I second the motion to call RR as a bishop! One of my biggest pet peeves is how they treat grown men (and women) who look at porn. A friend of my wife would her things like “I made my ...

Re: Forced Turning Point

So how’s the new bishop’s office? Do you at least get a new chair? Stock up on fabreeze because if it’s like any I’ve been in, the priest quorum funky smell never leaves. Not as bad as the mother’s lounge or kitchen, but clearly a bishops office is on the “top 5 most smelly rooms in a Mormon chapel...

Re: Forced Turning Point

Any updates Graey? How was your first Sunday? First Sunday was... surreal. When I was asked to share my "testimony" I spoke about our ward family, about service, and quoted the two great commandments in Matthew 22 and serve neighbor serve God in Matthew 25. I did not mentioned RMN, I did not mentio...

Re: Forced Turning Point

It should be obvious! When Graey was set apart as a Bishop the Spirit(TM) moved Graey to immediately see the error in his ways and he has sworn to never visit the vile pit of despair that is Newordermormon.net. On the contrary, the Spirit(TM) confirmed to me that this is the only place I have to go...

Re: I may have just seen a heavenly visitor??

Whatever you do, do NOT gouge your own eyes out! Even if you've seen something beautiful since then, your mind will always recall garment-gate as the reason for your blindness. You'll never be able to let it go or see anything else to replace it.

Re: Forced Turning Point

I'm really not big on titles. I'll have to work hard at getting people to drop the bishop thing. The hardest part for me was calling somebody and then introducing myself a "Bishop New Name" I don't know if you eventually get used to it, but whenever my DW says "bishop" my stomach knots up. If you'd...
